MacGyver and jack dalton - my favorite comedy team.
love mac's reaction when he sees jack twitch while in the coffin after he's just poured his heart out to his dearly departed friend . also, watching mac as he holds on for dear life in that sidecar as they're rounding the street corners in those f-a-s-t turns man, with legs that long - how'd he get in that sidecar anyway ?
QUOTE (MacGyverGod @ May 17 2005, 03:49 am)
I voted Good. This was a good episode. First five minutes were good with those flashbacks of Jack of Lies. It's indeed a wonder how he got in that sidecar with those legs of his.
QUOTE (MacGyver @ May 17 2005, 03:59 am)
Oh yes, another good episode! I especially liked the part where MacGyver finds out Jack is just faking the whole death thing and Mac reaches into the coffin, probably to strangle him to death! And then, you have Mac and Jack on the run from the CIA and riding in a motorcycle and sidecar, like Henry Jones, Sr. and Indiana Jones in the 1989 movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade!!! That was cool.
QUOTE (Vina @ May 17 2005, 06:46 am)
I voted good, as you probably know, I find Jack a bit annoying. However, I did like the sidecar scenes too--especially as they are driving around in downtown LA very close to where I stayed last October. I recognized the Jewelry Mart sign in the background in one shot and that was right near our hotel, The Biltmore. I got so when I saw this!
Of course they actually show the front of the Biltmore in "Obsessed"--where Murdoc blew up the dictator's room, but that is OT, I know.

Yes, Mac and Jack are definitely my favorite comedy team, too!
RDA and Bruce McGill played off each other beautifully every time.
I love the "coffin" scene myself... just the kind of thing Jack would come up with. I'm ROFL just remembering it!!
QUOTE (Alex-Wylie @ May 23 2005, 04:42 am)
I like the coffin scene and all you guys said but what I like most about this epi is the end.
first pre-last scene
"Something to make feel glad to be alive again, does't it?" Mac grabbing Jack head playfully with all this paper clippings in his hand.
and then last scene again in the sidecar
Jack: "An honest day pay for an honest days work"
Mac: "Glad to hear it."
After a moment
Mac: "Where're you going this isn't the way to my jeep!"
Jack: "I could've sworn I've told ya. I just got one quick job to do."
Mac: "An honest days work for an honest day pay?" (See how he turned the sentence around and put honest work before the money.) What a Dad!
Jack: "You got it! A quick stop by the peer look for a man with a peg leg and pariot on his shoulder he's supoosed to have something for me."
Mac's look on his face is priceless
Mac: "JAAACK!!!"
Jack: "It's a joke MacGyver, it's a joke"
Mac * simple smiles his nice smile*

I love this episode.. I voted Excellent.. This time Mac got in the middle of it and it wasn't Jack's fault. Jack told Mac to stay out of it but do you think Mac listened? noooooo.. I have a question, who told Mac that Jack was "dead"? The priest? The look on Mac's face when he saw Jack twitch ROFL.
Did you notice when Mac said to Jack you're alive! It Looked like Rick was trying not to laugh but he laughed a little bit. After that Mac was furious. I wonder how many takes they had to do.. Rick was trying not to laugh that's funny ROFL. Great episode!

I voted good,
You voted good? I thought you would vote poor or average since the episode is about Jack.

I did mean to comment on this one since I saw it again. I found myself I'd almost forgotten just how hilarious Mac and Jack really were. And I liked the spy, Shadow. The show generally did a good job with the female characters (ie, making them smart) but had just enough flighty or airheaded women to make me really appreciate the smart ones.
The best scenes in this one had to be the opening and the closing scenes. The looks on Mac's face in BOTH scenes are priceless!

Excellent ep!
Love Jack and Mac together! I get a chuckle out of the garbage truck scene... it reminds me of StarWars for some reason....

This "Shadow" character, please help me out on this. She's a CIA agent, right?
I mean, they go to Berrenger Import-Export, most likely expecting a confrontation or somekind of trouble and she's wearing a long dress -complete with purse???- and high heels?!?!?!

Exactly! That always bugged me, too. You know, women can wear pants, too, it's not forbidden anymore
Isn't that the episode where Mac helds up the wire mesh fence for her to crawl under it? I really would have liked to see getting her over this fence in this dress

Yeah, that's the only part that bugged me about her character. Why would she dress so nicely when she knew full well that they were about to walk into trouble?
Could this be a nitpick?
Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. I also liked Mac's observation at the very beginning of the eppy:
"Death is a given from the day we're born. Somehow, though, you tend to forget about it, and think it'll never happen to you or those you love. But it does."
Somehow, this very serious moment provides a nice counter to the sheer goofiness that follows.

If she was under cover at that night club. She wouldn't have been able to walk in dressed like an FBI agent. She would have had to turn up at the club looking like an normal everyday person coming to work.
So when she got changed.. she would have had to wear what she came to work in.
Apart from the neatly-dressed CIA agent, I also wondered why Shadow can operate the cipher machine after it was found in the bad guy's car without being plugged in. A machine of such size, I suppose, would run on electricity rather than batteries.

Maybe it had big rechargeable batteries? Or ran off some kind of photo/solar cell? Not as common in the '80's as today, I know, but bear in mind it was designed by a U.S. government agency. My guess is that agencies like the CIA are a good ten years ahead of everyone else, technology-wise.

I had voted "GOOD" only because, in this episode, we can watch JACK e Mac together again... I saw this episode two days ago afters some years, and It seemed worse than I remembered! It's not believable that Jack claims to be able to spy better than Mac!! MAC GYVER is a ex secret agent !!! And the cipher machine does not seem credible!!! It is ridiculous!!! But Jack and Mac together are priceless!!

Course Mac must not mind it too much cause he keeps going back for more, the loyal sweetheart that he is. I think Mac and Jack are better than Laurel and Hardy.

While I consider the main plot of this episode to be a little too naive for my taste, it's really entertaining. Jack Dalton returns--all those flashbacks in the beginning were a little bit over the top, I think, but then again, you can imagine all the memories flashing through Mac's mind while he's standing by Jack's coffin!
The whole side wagon thing is hysterical! I laughed like crazy when I saw Mac's face when they first pulled out of that "garage..." How on Earth did they manage to fit him in, with his long legs?
The dress and purse aside (Rockateer's explanation why she was dressed like that is totally plausible)--I think "Shadow" really had potential. Her frantic screaming inside the garbage truck was a *little* bit like... well, too much "damsel in distress," but she did manage to knock out at least one of those guys.
Some wonderful one liners in this one too. "Uh-ow, Light's out!" sent me into a laughing fit.

Having long legs myself I can understand how difficult they are to fit in many situations, and at 6'1" RDA has got to have quite long legs. Did you notice though that his knees were always sticking up around his chest when he was sitting in the side car? No way he could have stretched them out in it!!
I enjoyed this episode for the Mac/Jack combination too.

I voted Excellent. I enjoyed the entire show, especially the interaction between Mac and Jack.
While watching the original "V: The Final Battle" on YouTube yesterday, I noticed one of the resistance fighters, who was a counterfeiting expert, used a particular machine to make a copy of a pass that would be needed to attend a news conference held by the Visitors. This machine was the same cypher machine used in this episode.

I love Jack Dalton episodes, and this is probably my favorite! It seems like just the kind of thing Jack would find himself in, and find a way to drag poor Mac into as well. Love this episode!

this is a very good episode, better than the previous one from Jack. The scenes with the sidecar, Jack's apartment in the warehouse, the disco, the garbage truck among other things make it a very good time.

If she's working undercover she has to appear "normal" so would probably have gone to work (at the bar) in that dress the same as everyone else that works there.... so that would have been the only clothing she had at the club.
Undercover agents can't and don't carry around their "agent suit" with them all the time.
