Hi all,

i have all MacGyver DVD Series Boxes. I learned that the movies will be released in June, good news.
But again,with no Extras. WHY?

Maybe not all users are interested in them, but i really love to see backstage scenes, outtakes, offline interviews, crew filming etc....and if these does exist, some DELETED SCENES. sad.gif

Series like The X-Files,Alias,ad a lot more contains some extras, like commentaires, interview, etc. I think it is a shame that MacGyver Boxes come with no added feature,i think most fans would be happy.

What you think?

Because they were more popular than Mac? But isn't that like with all the releases of the 80's shows. MacGyver, Magnum PI, The A-Team. With Magnum PI and The A-Team you get an episode of the next season as an extra or an episode of another show. Which is something as nothing. What's the use in that?

Further more I'm indeed also very interested in that kind of stuff. Interviews, commentaries, deleted scenes, bloopers. The making-of an episode.

But we better be happy with what we got and that's the shows release. With or without extras.

It all comes down to CBS/Paramount's attitude towards the show. Basically they don't care.

It's always been a money making venture. There's a number of topics around here were members have expressed their dislike for Paramount's treatment of the release; from the poor picture quality through to the slap happy mixing of disc style in the full series box set.

All in all Paramount have treated MacGyver as a second rate show for most of it's existence. Even when it was on air, it was only ever a slot filler for Monday night football and as such was regularly moved around to suit.

So it's really just a continuation of the same situation... Paramount don't give a damn.

One thing which still really bugs me is that disk 1 season 1 makes you sit through previews of other even older shows, like Happy Days, where they spiel on about how the picture and sound have been digitally remastered for total clarity etc, while the MacGyver episodes haven't been digitally anything. That to me is really rubbing salt in the wound. It's saying "We don't give a damn about the show you just purchased from us, but look. We have these other OLDER shows which we have gone all out to them look and sound better than they originally did."

What the Hell!!?? mad.gif

Hi,

in my opinion (ok,fans will buy it however) an additional extra feature would be more desirable for DVD customers.
A DVD,as it is from the end of XX Century,is also a historical witness of the production work of a show, given to all world eyes.
For Example,i love the "making of", where often we see how all the crew worked hard and with passion to make our favourite show. And whenever i re-watch an episode or film,i will remember what happened in that point of the show during filming. For me it is fantastic...

I founded the deleted scene in Pilot episode.
The extra scene contains the arrival of MacGyver and Taylor to Pentagon,Generals are asking about mission. Great scene, shows how MacGyver is talented ad respected from national security staff.

Again, there is the ONLY backstage never seen,on Halloween Night Episode. I love it so much!

These,i'd like to view in a MacGyver DVD extra features!

Don't have it. And what better sound and picture quality concerns on Happy Days... the difference is it has a play-all episodes feature. And it's been waaaay waaaay to long ago since I saw it on tv to make a comparison about to old quality and the new quailty. Of course dvd is better but in some scenes especially the kitchen scenes at Richies places in the early episodes you can still see some if not a lot of the old quality. Not that I mind though.

I have those trailers on the Season 3 set. I don't think I have them on Season 1.

But regarding the lack of extras-- I suspect part of the reason that so many 80s shows don't have extras is because the shows were made before DVDs existed, so nothing extra was filmed for the DVDs. These days, they KNOW the show will be going to DVD eventually, so they film little extras (like interviews, making-of documentaries, blooper reels, whatever) while they're making the show, and then they can easily insert them on the DVD later.
But in order to do extras for MacGyver, they'd have to get in contact with RDA (or whoever else) and film new stuff. It's not worth their time or effort. They know fans will buy the show even without the extras, and people who are not fans won't be interested in extras anyway.

I suppose they could throw on various interviews that RDA filmed on talk shows or whatever, but that would require securing the rights to those interviews. Again, it's not worth the time or effort.

Don't get me wrong, I wish they had extras. Even just small ones like the extras on the Stargate SG-1 DVDs.

Speaking of which, I wonder why channels like "E" and "The Biography Channel" never did a show about the history of MacGyver. The have the "E True Hollywood Story" of so many other 80s shows, and the Biography Channel constantly has stuff about various 70s and 80s shows. Maybe part of the problem is that MacGyver was basically a one man show, so its back story is considered less interesting (fewer opportunities for cast rivalries, etc.)

Havent really payed any attention to this matter, but is there much footage (interviews, behind the scenes, bloopers etc) that was filmed when they shot Macgyver?
I guess here in Finland there hardly was anything seen besides the show, the almost only sort of stories or any interviews concerning the show were on newspapers etc. I dont remember at all these things, only the show itself.

Also, feel free to link here if you find anything of such footage.

It is indeed rare these days to have no extras at all. Not a single bone or tidbit offered. Surely they could have inserted some scenes that didn't make the cut, some bloopers etc, or even a file interview with RDA or the creator. Nada. As a comparison, I recently picked up Set 2 of 'The Saint'. It has included a photo gallery, original broadcast trailers, and a 'History of the Saint' feature.

I have a couple of other issues with this set as well. There are no scene selections available in order to jump quickly through the episodes and also the transfer quality does not seem to be up to snuff - I find myself constantly reaching for the volume control - some scenes just right, some scenes to low. There is a definite inconsistency in the audio levels from period to period.

Other than that, no complaints at all! biggrin.gif

There's very little behind the scenes footage ever been released and what was released only turned up in news clips on shows like Entertainment Tonight.
