I know people have this thing about how trailers should be enough to determine whether something is good or bad, but I truly believe it's not enough to go on and that they can actually be pretty misleading. Watching the MacGyver trailer, you're really given no clue as to the plot of the episode or the context of all the little snippets.
All MacGyver fans should give this show a chance and watch at least one episode, IMO of course.

I'm gonna give the reboot a go... just because I'm curious to see how it will match up to the original.
I say we should just leave the people alone who don't want to watch it. No matter how much we try to reason with them, they're not going to change. Ever meet people that the harder you push the more they resist? It's gonna be like that... so I wouldn't even waste the energy.
So far, I think we've been more than fair about this reboot.
"Walk in love. Walk in service. And you will walk in honor." (Good Knight MacGyver) "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow." - Albert Einstein "What are ferrets made of? Happiness."
I can't really imagine any MacGyver fan not at least being interested enough to give this new show a chance. I suspect the people who have no interest in it are mainly fans of RDA, not the premise of MacGyver, so that's why the reboot isn't interesting to them.
I just hope that if the show is genuinely good, despite its differences from the original, that enough people are open-minded enough to appreciate it for what it is, rather than just bemoaning the fact that it's not exactly like the 1980s show. It would be a shame if a good show gets cancelled because of low ratings.

Dare I say... I was definitely against the reboot... and then I had an epiphany.... so, to everyone out there who is still angry that this isn't Richard Dean Anderson's MacGyver, I would like to posit this: you can go over to Netflix or Amazon and see all of the episodes from the original series... or better yet... buy the DVDs!! RDA is now 66 years old, with bad knees, weight and back issues. I for one am hoping this new series is a HUGE success with the new generation.... because in this day and age they NEED an intelligent, resourceful, non-gun-toting role model like we all had... back in the 20th Century!
Just sayin'...

I have to say, I probably will. And despite what everybody says, even the haters will watch it. Than it usually will go like: they like it but they won't admit so they can continue hating. But there will also be the ones that won't like it after all and there will be the ones that will come around. I'll stick to the original no matter what. The reboot will stand on it's own and in his own universe.
I'm pretty sure this will be like almost every other series. Beginnings are never easy but once you get into, you're sold. Yes, I will watch it.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.
From the promos and trailers they've released so far, there are things I like and things I don't.
Same here. A large part of what I don't like, though, are things like the music and the smug attitude. I'm hoping that neither of those are actually predominant in the show. For now, I'm giving the show the benefit of the doubt and assuming that the soundtrack throughout actual episodes won't be hip-hop music, and that the smugness we see in the trailers is merely a matter of how they edited the trailed as a way to try to look cool to attract an audience (though it's backfiring badly, from what I can tell.) Fingers crossed!
One of my friends saw the trailer and said, "Looks okay, but why does MacGyver look more like Zak Morris from Saved By The Bell?" I had to laugh.

we just can't judge before the official release date, I'm curious to see what they will be offering to us, usually for some ppl first impressions are dominant, so the first trailer.... anyway just as a particular note, I don't see enthusiasm for this new series, but it may be just me-

The original wasn't a ratings hit at the start... it was given time to find it's audience... back when there weren't sooooooo many other channels/options to choose from... and if you remember... the whole premise changed from the première episode (Mac fired a gun, worked for a different agency, etch). So my advice is give it a fair chance... in other words... more than just the pilot episode....IMHO... if you're just an RDA fan... my words will mean nothing at all....

Being hopeful yet realistic is a problem of mine. I fear that this new incarnation will fail. This type of show doesnt seem to sit easy with audiences nowadays. It's a different mindset out there.
Still, be positive, be positive!

I hope it's:
1) A success 2) Popular 3) does not ruin the original characters or change their personalities 4) does not retread original plots too much
aside from this, I am 100% on board. I can't wait to watch MacGyver on Friday nights!
My husband and I REALLY liked it... looking forward to seeing how they develop the characters... especially based on feedback from viewers... which they have instant access to via FB, Twitter, etc. It's a new age!
