Outstanding!

Posted by: Astra 14 August 2008 - 01:01 PM
You know, this is my desktop at work. You might notice the programme AutoCAD.

Last year we had our co-workers from Berlin visiting our office, and at least three of them recognized who it was on my screen. There were some "Hey, isn't that Richard Dean Anderson?", "Hey, isn't that the guy from "Stargate"?" and even "Hey, isn't that MacGyver?", which I was very surprised about, since he has changed quite a bit since then, so it was even better they still recognized him.

The first thing my mother (who also had seen him almost twenty years ago for the last time) said when I came back with this picture: "My, has he gotten old!" blink.gif

PS: I keep thinking what to do when I come back from Vancouver with another nice picture - put them both up? Split screen? Or having them changed every day?

Posted by: MacGyverGod 16 August 2008 - 08:55 AM
Well, peoples age. I have to say for a guy his age, he's looking good.

Posted by: MacsChick 16 August 2008 - 12:33 PM
Amen to that! How old is your mother, Astra? You could always retort that she's no spring chicken, either, if she's the kind of person you can tease. Otherwise, I wouldn't advise upsetting or offending her. wink.gif My stepdad is five years older than RDA, and he's always talking about how "old" he is, too. It gets on my nerves. dry.gif Anyway, to me, he looks great! Awesome desktop, too! Not many people have the privilege of having acutal "live" photos of him on their computers. All mine come from published sources and other creative artists' wallpapers from various fan sites. You should be proud of that picture--you have bragging rights! biggrin.gif

My mother is born in the same year as Rick - 1950 laugh.gif

Well, in a way I can understand it came as a shock. I don't think she meant it in a bad way. You know, we have seen him grewing older in ten years of Stargate. At the beginning he looked still like Mac, and the end he had grey hair. But when you see him every week, you don't notice the changes as much.

That is the same with the aunt that comes visiting only once a year and says to the children "my have you grown!" For the parents, that see them every day, the changes are not so obvious.

So, I have respect for my co-worker, who still recognized Mac in this face, without the long hair and all. I have often trouble recognizing people when they have different hairstyles suddenly, it confuses the heck outta me! Of course, the eyes and the smile are still the same, but still.

So true. Before I started watching Stargate, I am already a fan of RDA as MacGyver. I saw some clips of him from the show which must be from the later seasons and I saw how much he has changed. Of course, I know people age, but like you said, when you don't see someone everyday, the change can be noticeable.

I like these darker gothic/fantasy desktops. I've had my share of Mac Desktops and pretty women over the years but I got so tired of them.

Posted by: KiwiTek 28 January 2013 - 01:37 PM
Yeah I prefer darker colored desktops myself. Bright desktops make me feel like I need to wear sun glasses to look at the screen and can make it hard to see icons etc too.

I'm a HUGE fan of "Chuck", as much as I am of "MacGyver". So I chose this. For those who haven't seen "Chuck" you should check it out. Chuck even references MacGyver on one episode.

I use a revolving slideshow of my own photographs for the desktop bg. I like the memory jog each image provides ... for example this photo was taken on August 19th of this year. I had just finished mowing the lawn and noticed a fawn grazing on the freshly cut grass. All of sudden the fawn became extremely tense and starting strutting towards the heavy bush at the edge of the field ... and then out jumped this big buck. I often hang my camera on a nearby tree when working outside so as not to miss any perchance photo op ... and thus managed to capture this rare meetup of a smallish fawn (seemingly) challenging a large buck to a duel.

Purrrrfect choice, MDBfan! biggrin.gif Haha Bambi, indeed. Are they as cute without their spots though? My latest, captured on Monday, Nov. 10th has that same little fawn(middle) - now 3 months older and sans white dots (they disappear by mid September) ....

Another topic to revive! Here's my desktop, what's yours?

Posted by: DashboardOnFire 26 August 2017 - 03:00 PM
Fun Topic.

I re-set my laptop last weekend, so it still looks like it came fresh out of the store - haven't even changed the picture yet. It's been 5 years since I saw it, so I don't care that much laugh.gif

Usually, I have something more "personal" on it. The last one was a photo of Lake Thun with sailing boats and the Swiss mountains in the background.

This is mine for the past two years now.

If you change your wallpaper back to what you had before Dash, be sure to show it to us! Also, CCleaner is great program, isn't it? My one tech savvy friend swears by it. lol

Well, I can show you now, the photo is still on here happy.gif . It's from September 2015 when I took a bus outside of Thun and then walked back into the city. It's about an hour, but because I take so many breaks to look at the nature and take pictures I usually need 2 hours tongue.gif

CCleaner is neat. Actually, one of our patients recommended it back when I was still working with Substance Abuse patients in an outpatients clinic.

I thought I'll copy the setup-link onto my desktop again to install it - but somehow I managed to transfer the programme from my external hard-drive directly onto my desktop all work-ready. Didn't need to install it. Kinda weird but as long as it works I don't mind laugh.gif . They also installed it recently at my workplace, but it's a more modern and bigger version (maybe one you have to pay for it).

I used to have photos as my background; either nature or our cats or my nephews. Then in my Twilight Days either Twilight pictures or photoshoots of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. They used to do a LOT of promo and there were lots of fanmade wallpapers, so I changed it every week laugh.gif .

I had some of Stargate-SG-1 for a few months when I watched the DVDs for the first time. Then I was back to photos.

Posted by: Jediferret 28 August 2017 - 04:30 AM
Cool MOL icon! Obvious? Nah...

That's a pretty picture Dash! I need to add Switzerland on my travel bucket list. biggrin.gif

I have a variety of pictures I use, and I switch them up often... though I don't like the option of selecting a folder and having the wallpaper cycle through the pictures. I find it incredibly distracting. I'd rather just have one picture for about a month and then change it.

I meant to guess what the object in the photo is, silly. Yes, high res. Taken with a Canon dslr camera. It was the camera that I used for photo shoots. This shot was taken on my day off and had time to do the tourist thing.

Actually, the statue is called "Cloud Gate". It is more commonly referred to as the big bean because it is sort of shaped like a kidney bean. It is in Chicago. Most people take pictures of the entire statue (which I also did) but I like to get creative so I stood under it and shot straight up . What you see is the underside. The grid pattern is the pavement on the ground and the person you see several times in the red and gray jacket is me.

But we can change it's name from "Cloud Gate" to "Stargate".
