OK, I've just seen this thread. It depends on whether you are after a decent record shot, or whether you are looking for photographic genius. The first I might be able to do, the second I doubt.

This to my mind was America in a nutshell:

OK, that will do for now, I'll see what I can find from the UK, Canada, France and Switzerland another time as I should be working - America was just first in the online album.

Oh, and as we had what it looked liked outside earlier, here is what is inside the Lincoln memorial - 'Anyone for Night at the Museum II?

The museum is worth a look if you ever get there, but take a picnic if you don't like Mickey D's - there was literally no-where else to get lunch, so for the first, and I hope only time, I actually ended up to buying some.

McDonald's has come along way since their drive-in burger days. I had a feta, spinach & egg wrap for breakfast this morning and it was very, very good. Nowadays, their coffee is as good as you'd get from any of the specialty coffee shops, and their bathrooms are always ultra clean. Could do a lot worse in the world today. Having said that, I hate getting railroaded for any food choice as is so often the case in amusement/tourist attractions. But really, the menu & caloric choices are quite varied in 2016 and probably much more healthy than your average pub or chipper.

Breaking news ,,,, I've made a new friend in recent weeks. She's got a cute face, a sleek body, big round eyes, & like me, is always on the hunt for a fresh, seafood dinner!

No, normally I don't have an issue with plus size gals .... but she(grey seals) weighs in at
over 500lbs and you have to keep a constant eye on her around the fish bowl,
and at seafood restaurants. biggrin.gif

I don't have an issue with fast food as a general rule, but I've never liked the MacDonalds marketing model - hook 'em as kids then they buy as adults. I went to a marketing attitudes seminar once - they showed pictures of logos/famous faces and asked for the immediate audience gut reaction. They showed the golden arch logo and the audience (bar me - I said 'yuk') said as a single voice (there was about 300 there) 'Happy!' I was little short of astounded. I must admit out of choice I've always picked Burger King (other fast food outlets are available ;-) )

Grey seals are great - we have them in some numbers in places in the UK. I didn't get a photo, but did have a close encounter once whilst working as a scientist on a muddy estuary in Devon one day, I was out in waders in the mud with a colleague and a grey seal popped their head out of the water only about 10 metres away and watched us with great interest for about 15 minutes. It wasn't scared at all.

Aha, I knew there was an ulterior motive there! biggrin.gif Hmmm, I never considered that particular angle, and I do run into this topic/debate along with the Walmart model on forums quite often. They do put a lot back into the community though, with Ronald MacDonald House which provides housing near medical facilities for families of seriously ill children. They also send thousands of underprivileged kids to camp each summer, and their hiring programs are incredible career building blocks for our youth. So not all so evil-handed really. wink.gif

I'm curious, in the UK, where do coaches, guardians take youth sports teams after competitions? In Canada/US, to have a van of 20 ravenous hockey players after a game, means 'fast food' NOW! and McDonalds et al have fit nicely for this requirement over the years.

Okay, back on topic. The seals come in the spring and fatten up on the fish entering the rivers amid the highest tides in the world, here. Their pups will soon be born and they will be gone further out to sea, and apparently they will go into a period of fasting soon after.

Here is another that's just caught (what looks to be) an American eel. Yum! blink.gif

Ooo...mesas and buttes - we learned about those in physical geography at school, but I've never seen them. It's like where the bird nested in Mac episode' Eagles' :-D

In the UK, they'd make those sports teams take a packed lunch! That's what the letters home always say.

Someone's been doing their ancestry research biggrin.gif We learned a lot about the Civil war when we visited Manassas battlefield last year, there are lots of memorable people and deeds within the history - it must be interesting to have someone in your own heritage.

I always think its kind of interesting that George Washington's grandfather is buried in my town's church - it's funny how odd bits of American heritage crop up all over the place.

Haha! Yeah, we got a bit of a history lesson over the weekend while visiting Dad. A lot of my family on his side are buried in the same cemetery as Molly Pitcher, so we took a trip over there. He gave us a nice tour of Carlisle as well. smile.gif

Thanks Maclover and yes, those 'boat people' usually have a few extra shekels in their pocket for a purchase as such.biggrin.gif The advantage with drones at sunset is that you can alter/experiment with your altitude until you find just the right spot/angle where those colorful hues are reflecting off the water at their most intense level. Too high or too low and you lose most of that color magic.

Dashboardonfire - nice! We are off to Switzerland a week on Wednesday to stay with my long term friend on the outskirts of Zurich - a regular trip for us. I like Zurich - it is a beautiful city, we will swim in the lakes and also the Rhine and do some exploring. Last time I took the kids to the Rhinefall for the first time - it isn't on the scale of Niagara, but it is fairly spectacular. I'll have to see if I can dig out some Swiss pictures.

Nice pictures!

It's been years since I've been to the "Rheinfall"; probably more than 15 years ago!

Lovely pictures of Switzerland, guys! Never been ... yet! But, I did make it to Green's Point Lighthouse for sunrise a few days ago. It was me and about 1000 mossies watching those pastel hues, the deet did not seem to deter them and thank goodness the Zika carrying one has not arrived north of the border as of yet. surprise.gif

Lovely Joe, you can't beat a shot with some water in. I've found loads of lake shots in Switzerland, but I need to spend quite a lot of time (which I haven't got at the moment) with the edit tool as I wasn't concentrating when I took them and the water is flowing out one side or another (if you know what I mean laugh.gif )
