Yeah, I agree. So let's hope the shot of the bikini women on the tank is not actually part of the show, and is rather just some weird joke (even Lenkov says, "What does this have to do with MacGyver???")

Fortunately, the other shots we've been seeing have looked a LOT more encouraging, so I still have hope for this reboot.

Let me guess... so that blue screen on the background, they are gonna add blue sky to it, so it looks like they are flying on the air.

Bikini-wearing ninja fighters??? and I had just posted in another thread how pleased I was that shows were becoming more intelligent....

I remember the Ninjas casting call being very last Minute (Monday maybe?). So it might be just some Publicity stunt for the San Diego Comic Con... it doesn't really fit in with the rest that we've seen so far... the cameo by singer George Lott made me think Music Video for the Soundtrack initially, but I really don't know...

I think the scene could really be part of the episode. If you look at the different pictures of the tank, it has some ruins around (or even on it). They look like columns. They seem similar (at least in the colour) to these:

With regard to the bikini girls with guns... well, I suppose that in the backyard of the mansion will be some kind of pool. The scene seems to be at night, but if it is summer and hot, women in bikini could be feasible. Couldn't be possible that a terrorist group infiltrate them at the party? Supposedly, it shouldn't be anything less dangerous than a woman in bikini, should it?
The guns? They take them out of the tank.

And what about the ninjas? They have appeared before in MacGyver. In S03E20 - Murderers' Sky, the woman acts like a ninja. They weren't casting only ninjas, DashboardOnFire posted that they were also casting koreans (rice farmers and soldiers). They could be connected.

Why are the bikini women shooting the ninjas? Maybe an important korean attending the party have hired them as bodyguards so, when the tank appears, they try to protect their lord. Perhaps MacGyver is also attending the party as an assigment to protect that person (or something this person is carrying to the party).

I don't know if this could work in MacGyver, but it is true that there were some weird episodes in the original series.

Hmmm... I suppose it's possible. But if so, it seems to be running dangerously close to MacGruber territory.

You're right about the original series having its share of weird moments ("Harry's Will," "Faith, Hope & Charity," "Honest Abe," "Cleo Rocks," etc, etc, etc), but I'm not sure how well that kind of silliness translate to today's television. Don't get me wrong, I don't want the show to be ultra-serious, but this looks potentially TOO silly. Guess we'll have to wait and see how it all plays out, though.

(and just think, a few pages back, we were debating whether or not a simple two-handed whirlwind punch was too silly... and now we have machine-gun toting ninjas in bikinis on a tank! ha!)

If they will operate under the DXS, tho, could it mean that the Phoenix Foundation will be a DXS subdivision that MacGyver will create? Or to give things a twist, will team MacGyver be called Phoenix?

I hope they don't introduce the Phoenix Foundation too soon, tho, since MacGyver and Pete left DXS because, from what I know, MacGyver and Pete thought of the DXS as dirty. There certainly could be a story arc which would tell a reimagined version of a 'DXS conspiracy' with MacGyver and his team unraveling it and eventually leaving the DXS to join the Phoenix Foundation.

But from the looks of it, it looks like Mac will be the one to form the Phoenix Foundation under the aegis of the DXS.

Since we discussed the Episode title in the Forums, I thought about the Phoenix (rising from the ashes). So for the "old" MacGyver fans, I don't think Lenkov gave to much away - and the "new" MacGyver fans probably won't make the Connection that easy...

Yeah, I'm guessing the first episode might focus on assembling the Phoenix Foundation's core team, much like how Hawaii 5-0's first episode was about bringing together the main team. It seems the most logical way to do a show like this.

In the original series, though, the Phoenix Foundation was quite a large operation. I wonder if it will ever get to be something that big in this new series, or if it will be more of a small team. I could see them re-imagining it as a small team that handles sensitive cases to avoid the bureaucracy inherent in a larger operation. I remember Pete in the original series saying something about how avoiding bureaucracy was one of the main purposes of the Phoenix Foundation, and I think a small team, as opposed to a large organization, might be able to do that more easily.
