Haven't seen the episode yet, but what I've seen last night on Twitter, comments were mostly positive. Some negative comments about the medical inacurracies (is that even a word? *blush*), but that's about it.
Many on Twitter praised George Eads' performance and that it was nice to see men being allowed to be emotional on this show and not just some tough hit-them-shoot-them guys that feel no pain.
I'm already curious about the ratings. There were local airings of sports events, so that might be a factor for lower ratings.

I think it was my least favorite episode of the season. On a positive note, I appreciate that they slowed the pace down and gave us some character development and emotion, rather than just jumping from action scene to action scene. And I was glad to see Bozer not joining the team. But, overall, I just found myself not that interested in the story. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood when I watched it.
I wonder if Jill is going to become a new regular cast member. She's likable enough, but this show really doesn't need more characters. (Hmm... maybe she could get promoted and replace Mattie? I'd be fine with that, even though I know it won't happen.)

Like with the last episode, not really any complaints. Still not for Matty's attitude, Cage's presence or the whole Team thing, but I did think, for what it is, it was a great episode.
Nice Wrangler in the beginning too! Great acting by George. Loved that they utilized Jill a bit more. I like Jill. She can stay. lol I actually think that dynamic of her and Bozer working together is good. Even though I'm not a huge Bozer fan, I like how they used him in this episode. While the team was gone, he tried to find Jacks things and when he did, it wasn't some evil crime... and he helped the kid out instead.
The main story itself, though a bit convoluted, was good. Again, nice to see the team doing some good. I also liked seeing Mac actually interested in the personal conflicts of others. The only thing they need to worry about is balance.
It doesn't need to be super emotional, but it should be relatable... we want to care about the characters, not just see them do cool stuff.
Does seem that Matty has been toned down a little bit, not much though. Still needs to work on the attitude a bit. Cage still seems unnecessary, but her presence doesn't really bother me much.
Big hugs to George! Even I felt that one. lol
Again, nice work from the team! It's got my stamp of approval.
Edit: I forgot to add this, but a couple more things. I LOVED the beginning with Jack's Tarzan yell. I felt the humor as of late as been a bit more natural. Before it felt a bit forced, but I chalk it up to that they were probably trying really hard. Still, the humor in this one was good!

I like Jill, although I wasn't so happy when I realized recently that the actress is actually the wife of Executive Producer David Slack.
Whenever a partner/relative of one of the producers gets a role that gets expanded later on, my mind is going "oooooooooooooooookay. of course.".
But I think she was a good choice for the role, so I'm going to stop harping now . When she showed up first and Lenkov talked about a new love interest for Bozer, I thought it might be her. I guess she will stay a recurring character for now - also because the show definitely doesn't need more regulars at the moment.
Reign Edwards as Bozers love interest will appear in the next 3 episodes (and maybe even more), and we still haven't fully accepted Matty or Cage yet (although I'm wondering what's going to happen with Cage since I haven't seen Isabel Lucas on set-pictures for 3 weeks now).

And I was glad to see Bozer not joining the team.
I think of all the Season 2 Episodes, the teams worked out the best in this Episode.
Mac and Jack together as the main focus, but with the help of someone else. I liked the actress - she was important and got to tell her story, too; but without overshadowing the main cast.
Also, it was nice to see the girls doing a side-mission of their own. Usually, it's either Riley or Cage helping out the guys - they feel a bit like the "support group" in other episodes, where as in here they were enhancing some girl power all on their own. I would love to see them team up again soon.
And even Bozer being "left behind" didn't feel like it to me because he did important work, too - while managing to get a likeable recurring character tagging along and helping others (Jack AND Tommy). That was something we usually saw in Original MacGyver.
I also thought it was okay that Cage wasn't in the first scene visiting Jack's appartement - although I think it's possible they cut her out because they must have done it for the Opening Gambit in Episode 2x06 (there is a BtS picture of Isabel Lucas wearing that Sami-Folklore-Attire when they're in Finland). It seems they listened to people complaining and cut her screentime down. I wonder if that's the reason she hasn't been seen on set recently.

Still, impressive numbers,
Definitely.
The Reboot is not among the highest-rated show CBS has and it sure doesn't get much media coverage compared to other shows, but this kind of stability might get them renewed for a 3rd Season.
It will be interesting to see what happens if all 3 Friday-Shows get renewed because the Magnum-Reboot would probably fit well for Friday, too.
It's also interesting because the other CBS rookie shows aren't doing so well. "SEAL Team" started with a higher rating and has a well-known star that has been a well-beloved TV-Show-Lead for years now (David Boreanaz), but they're on their 6th episode now and the numbers are still falling.

It is my belief that there are too many new shows. People find comfort in familiarity which is why they stick to "Classics" even though the reboot is nothing like the original.
Every now and then theres a show that comes along which is new and fresh and people react to those.

True. There's so many TV shows out there and a lot don't even make it to German-speaking TV. Because I spent 6 years studying at University with no time for TV, there are quite a few shows out there I've heard about and can even name its main characters and storylines, but I've never had the time to watch a single episode (e.g. Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones).
Not to forget that many shows have the same premises (e.g. Crime Shows à la CSI or Medical Dramas).
Even though I didn't watch that much TV, I've seen some of the plot twists and MacGyverisms already (e.g. Mac, Jack and Riley escaping in the Opening Gambit of the buried car in Season 1 was also a storyline in "Bones"). I've only seen two medical shows regularly, (ER and House, MD), but when I watched "Saving Hope" or an episode of "Code Black", I often already knew what the symptoms of a patient meant and it was no mystery or surprise for me anymore. Also, many of the newer episodes of "Hawaii Five-0" remind me of Original MacGyver episode plots.
I haven't seen them, but I guess the new CBS shows like "SWAT" and "Seal Team"aren't really revolutionary, either. You tune in for the characters, not for the storylines.

This surely was a bit different kind of episode. For some reason I was actually thinking, why didn't they just send Mac and Jack to get Hector Leon and have Cage and Riley go after the heart? But when problems turned up on both sides it didn't matter much. I love the many movie references but if they keep going and Star Wars will be spoiled, though I'm not that much of a big fan.
Jack was overdoing it a bit, the Tarzan yell and his reaction when Mac smashed out the windshield was not necessary. Though I think this episode has the most memorable MacGyverism so far, making a catapult in the windshield was awesome.

And what's wrong with that?
So you didn't like it that Lucy Lawless had a role in Spartacus because she's the wife of Executive Producer Rob Tapert? Or that Paul W.S. Anderson made the Resident Evil movies with Mila Jovovich as the star because he's married to her?
To me, it seems more like that it's naturel, if you're both in the business that you help out and support each other. I actually like this kind of "team ups" sort to speak and it happens more then you think. Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson for example or Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, they all made movies together. And yes, maybe it's convenient if your spouse has a certain position but I would never react like that.
I actually like Jill too, maybe even more than Andie. Must be the glasses.

"Heart in the Box".
That is a great episode title by the way.
A diffirent kind of episode but a great one. Plenty of MacGyverisms and an interesting way to get people to surgery.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.
Did anyone notice what was in Jack's cigar box beside the dog tags?
I count: A 1961 Camp Pendleton Rodeo Riders Club membership card A train timetable Medals with blue and yellow ribbons An immunisation card The corner of a postcard or picture
But there were some other papers in there that I didn't see properly. Anyone?

Why did Jack keep that stuff, I wonder?
Even with a screenshot, I couldn't even make out half of these - not sure how you did
Also, did we ever get to know what Jack Senior's middle name was?
Jack's own middle name is Wyatt - probably named after one of Lenkov's kids (Sam Wyatt). It's possible he chose the S for "Sam" since his other boy is named Jack and therefore already "honored" within both Daltons.
