Has anyone ever seen a Jeep that was that color brown? As a kid I just thought it was a dark brown jeep, but in some episodes it looks down right filthy. Any how, I have never seen a Jeep of that year model range with that color brown.

I think it depends on the episode- it looks black to me mostly- and I have seen a similar black jeep like MacGyver's- though obviously it was a much newer Wrangler model.
Theres some good images of the jeep in the jeep section of our Media Center where you can get a good idea of the original color being brown.
I don't recall off hand if I added the image (and can't check cos I'm on a make-do old computer at the moment) but I have a close up shot of the window frame which shows patches of faded green colouring. This might be the result of a different jeep being used for the close up shots and was "weathered" for continuity. I would suggest though that the jeep changed color from season 3 onwards, which you can see in the images I mentioned above.
This is the image I was referring too... You can clearly see some green coloring. It almost looks like a really bad spray paint of green over old faded brown. I think it's fair to say the color changes as the jeep changes. You can see very clear examples of this in our Media Center's jeep section

A multicolor jeep. I always figured it black especially from a distance. With this picture as Rock pointed out to me a while ago I tend to think it's more a very dark olive green one.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.
Judging by the green you can see in my previously posted picture, I think this is the original color of the jeep. You gotta wonder how it got so badly faded though.

I guess it's just Mac's expression here, but he looks an awful lot like a certain Air Force Colonel in "That OTHER Show"... Anyone else see it?
Yes, I think I see what you mean -- the shadows in the jeep hide both the length of the hair and the lightness, and the serious expression shows the incipient cragginess of the face: kind of a "look ahead" to his older appearance.

It looks like they stripped off the clearcoat somehow to give it that "worn" look. My guess would be a little light sanding or sandblasting would do the trick.

::shovel shovel:: ::unearths dead thread::
Thought I'd add to this one instead of starting a new Jeep thread, there's enough of those already.
Anyway, I was watching an episode of the A-Team today and noticed something that *may* explain the weird appearance of the paint on Mac's ride. In the A-Team scene, a group of people were getting into a limo which had the same foggy, spray painted look as the Jeep, but in the very next scene the limo was shiny! When I saw this I remembered something I've heard afew times about this stuff called dullcote that they often spray on things so they don't make reflections or glare in the camera and it got me wondering... what if they dullcoted the limo so the cameramen wouldn't show up from the angle they were shooting from, and what if they they did the same thing to Mac's Jeep? Both vehicles have flat vertical sides that would give off a pretty good reflection from lots of angles, so maybe it just made it easier and quicker to film if they didn't have to worry about that aspect?
I'm not saying that was 100% of the reason, just that it might have been a good factor. Yeah, a polarizing filter on the camera would get rid of alot of reflection, but not all, and they probably didn't have a huge budget to keep reshooting over and over just because the crew was visible in a shiny car door. Just a theory though.
I'm not even gonna speculate on what color the Jeep was, I'll leave that to the poor sod who wants to paint theirs. That dull, dirty looking stuff was even on the side back windows in some eps if you look close.
My personal theory is they just wanted the vehicle to reflect the down to earth adventure aspect of both they character and show itself... The jeep was kinda like the bomber jacket, an icon of action and adventure, and having it dirty and faded gave it that well warn and well adventured look.

I was about to comment about the back windows of the jeep not being windows, because I always thought they were like a solid fill-in where you could have windows if you choose, but Mac didn't.. then I looked at some pictures of the Wrangler YJ series and found they are actually windows after all, Mac just never washed em

I'm going with a 50/50 mix of your theory and mine. Not so certain about mine, but yours was without a doubt a reason for it's appearance. Or maybe we're to think that Mac was really lazy? Eh, I don't even wash mine that often.

To me Jeep´s colour allways looked like silk matt grey and it was often dirty wich gave it that 'mac' look. In uckly duckling episode where jeep wrangler first time appeared as Mac´s car it is black and older model with round headlights.

So....Yeah I know I haven't been here in a while....and this is an old thread...but I'm wondering something. What was the first episode the Jeep appeared in?

This is an interesting discussion. I always wondered about the paint job. I thought they must have oxidised the paint work. They could have simply repainted it a certain way to look a certain colour and older etc

Thats got to be a fact, that the MacGyver jeep's original color is black. Because, what I've read about the jeeps, so every Jeep Wrangler models roll bar color is same as the body color. So we see the Mac's jeep have black roll bar, so the body color have to be a black too. But they are sprayed something to the jeep to make it look more dirty But the same jeep is used from 2 season to 7 season

No it's not!
Season 2 jeep had no roof or side walls. Season 3 to 7 had the hard cover on the back. and was a different color too. Season 2 was brown. Season 3 onwards was.. who knows what color. Some of the close ups posted earlier in this thread show a faded green.
I would encourage everyone to lok back through this thread to see the pictures and accompanying ideas about the color.

You are right about that color, other seasons it's different, but let me try still.
In 'Birth Day' episode, the crane's strap make the dent to left front fender. So after that episode we see the dent on the jeep fender in other episodes, if we see that left front fender during that episode. And the other picture below is from episode 'Runners' (4 season), you see the same dent on the fender.

In 'Phoenix Under Siege' episode, when mac drive the jeep in rainy night and when they parked the jeep to the parking garage, so the jeep color maybe little bit looks like a black. Maybe the water washed the jeep a bit.
