I watch the new X-men movie on the weekend and found it strange to associate the character to someone i now know because of his upcoming MacGyver take. laugh.gif

That's what Lee David Zlotoff said in the recent interview with "The MacGyver Project":
You are correct about CBS wanting to manage the press on the new show, so it would not be appropriate for me to say anything at this point except, from what I’ve seen so far, it feels like things are moving in a good direction.

I understand wanting to manage the press somewhat, but I don't understand the wish to make it disappear completely. The writers posting pictures of a SAK or a paperclip is quite a clever way to excite fans without saying too much and it sure won't start any backlash. Also, it's free advertizing.

But hey, CBS is a bit longer in the business than I am *lol*, so they will know what's best - hopefully.

Nancy Kiu has been on my radar for a while now because she follows all the other MacGyver writers... guess that was finally the confirmation.

According to IMDb and her Twitter profile, she's been writing for "Revenge" and "Castle", otherwise she worked as a script coordinator ("The Glades") and a production assistant.

Her FB and Insta Account are not open for public, but she tweets daily. Let's hope for some more stuff before it gets deleted...

See this is what REALLY annoys me and worries me.

One minute they are all open and talking about connecting with the fans to help promote the show (Peter Lenkov video) and then suddenly when we take interest in what they're are posting they bloody close it down.

Make up your damn minds! Do you want us to be interested or not? because this kind of crap just turns me right the hell off the whole show. mad.gif

I hope the Powers that be are reading this forum and taking note. All you guys are doing is pissing the fans off!!

Came down Walter,

What I reckon has happened here is, the audience (more so original fans) have latched onto this reboot far far too early.

Remember, Peter Lenkov has only come on board since May, and with all the will in the world he needs time to do his job. He has a very difficult job to undertake - creating a series strategy, molding his team, writing/amending scripts, finding new locations, and a new cast. It's no easy task, and I can understand if he's under a bit of pressure.

Not all the roles are filled yet, production only started this week with scouting for locations etc. So up until now, their hasn't been much to report.

Making a TV show is big business, and can be a slow and arduous process. We can't expect to hear every minute detail of production, every toilet break etc. Peter Lenkov has a job to do, and can't be expected to post a minute to minute report on how the production is running. Things change on a minute to minute bases, especially at the pre-production stage. Even the pilot will have gone through multi-drafts as we move closer to filming. Even the dialogue will be modified and changed, during the shoot.

And to give the bloke credit, he has given a short interview to whet the appetite of fans. And has feed us news and pics, as and when he was available. So kudos has to go Peter Lenkov for that, at least. And as we near the transmission of first ep, I reckon we'll see much more from him, Mac_writers, and CBS collectively with all the juicy gossip.

What I am trying to explain, is that CBS are being very cautious, as like any production to keep things under wraps. It most important to do this. For example Star Wars closed down a large island off the coast of Ireland recently to film parts of episode 8. It was cut off to prying eyes from land, sea, and air to prevent any leaks that could ruin the story/film before it's release. No one likes spoilers. So I'm sure CBS are following a similar course, to protect and preserve the story etc until the show airs in September.

I understand crew members not being fond of fans gathering on private social media accounts and asking questions about an ongoing production all the time. But that's the point: maybe you shouldn't post work-related pictures on your private account you normally use to share information about your life with friends and family members.

Create a work-related account or the easy way: just don't post anything work-related.

Also, there is an official MacGyver CBS Account on Twitter, on FB, on Instagram etc. But they never post anything. If they would post something unreveiling every now and then (e.g. a pic of every confirmed cast member with a little description like "this is Lucas Till, our new and resourcefoul MacGyver"), people wouldn't go and start looking on unofficial accounts of crew members because they can't find anything on the official pages...

Look at Peter Lenkov's Pic of the Production Office. Why not post this one as a teaser on one of the official accounts, stating something like "and here we go"...

Maybe they will Dash? ...in time.

That production office pic was only taken on Friday.

The office maybe found and secured, but the staff may not, so a person in charge of posting these updates may not be in place at this early stage.

Yes the accounts have been set-up, but production doesn't start for another two weeks - so it's likely we're expecting too much, too soon.

Nothing in any of that waffle addresses anything I said.

If they didn't want fans "latching on" as you put it then they shouldn't bloody be posting pictures on social media. What did they think was going to happen?!

It's bad planning on their part and they need to get their social interaction sorted out, because like or not social media is their biggest promotion tool.

You're sounding like a spoilt brat.

I understand your concerns, and I agree - yes social media is the best place to promote.

But when you have nothing to promote, what is the point in posting?

They are probably busy working on the fundamentals, making decisions etc. Tweeting is probably the last thing they have to worry about. They don't begin filming for another two weeks.

So have some patience.

Perhaps you will find that they start posting when they have things to post about.

Considering the massive undertaking, I'd be grateful to have gotten what we've got so far.

Usually when they post, they get hurt by the people bashing the show. Seems like for the bashers, everything they do is wrong. If it were me, I would do the same and lock my account. I wouldn't need the negativity.

I hope you guys don't get mad at me for this, but I'm just being realistic.....

If the show does fail, and I hope it doesn't, it will be because of the people who thought negatively of the reboot. It's okay for non fans but we as the MacGyver fans should want this reboot to succeed and thus we must support it, especially at this point in time wherein we do not know much about it yet. If you guys are true fans of MacGyver (and I know you guys all are), you would want younger generations to relate with him. I am part of the younger generation, and though I liked the 80s MacGyver, I know I don't think a lot like them, so I know for a fact a whole lot of other people of my age will not like the original 80s show that much because they would think it's a corny old show. Truth hurts, but that's how people of my age generally view old stuff, and I'm glad I'm not like them. But I know that through this reboot they will get to know MacGyver, and who knows? Maybe they'd understand why the 80s show was great, too. It's not about what came first or what came last. It's about how MacGyver can live on through the years and how he can keep in touch with the times.

I actually showed my friends the trailer, and they liked it. And if that was the 'ugly' version, then most probably they would like the 'Lenkov-improved' version much more. I guess they liked the preview for the scapped pilot because:

1) They liked how cool the character was and I think they wouldn't think the 80s version will be as cool as the modern one because they generally view old stuff as corny. I hope we can just accept it and believe it. Take it from me, a 16 year old turning 17 this August. I know how our world as young people work. I don't want it to work that way but there's nothing I can do about it. They might think the old 80s show is 'cool' but, for sure they'll think the new show is 'cooler' because they are more familiar with the time it is set, they can relate more. For me, as long as they know MacGyver and they think he's cool, I'm okay with whatever it takes to make them like the MacGyver character in a way very similar to how I like MacGyver.

2) For the girls I have as friends, they must have really liked it because of Lucas Till. I guess the perception of someone 'hot' and 'handsome' must have evolved from RDA-handsome from the 80s to Lucas Till handsome at present. If I showed them the old RDA version, I wouldn't think they'd like it that much because, well, if you really think of it...he may be handsome then but he's old enough to be the grandfather of my friends now. With that in mind, I think it would kinda be a turn-off for the girls.

We don't really know much about the reboot yet, so there's really too little of a basis to bash it, so it's best to hope for the best, really. I guess my point here is, there is hope that the reboot will be a success because I know for a fact that young people will like it. I hope that original MacGyver fans can help it be successful, too...by thinking positively. I'm not saying don't ever bash it, you can once we really see the problems. But for now, we shouldn't be very harsh on it because all of the things we see as 'problems' now are only minor. thumbsup.gif

People post on social media regardless of whether they are supposed to or not. How many celebs have gotten into trouble for saying things or uploading pictures they weren't supposed to.

You get the quiet types that can hold their opinion to themselves and then you get those that need to announce every little thing they do.

But the good thing is that is does create talk and frenzy. Gets the blood pumping albeit a good or bad thing.

They may be guilty of posting but i guess we are guilty of reading. biggrin.gif

Well said, Manueloord

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Agree 100%

We shouldn't rush to judgement, and should wait until the programme airs before making our feelings felt.

I'll go slower......

They have been posting..... lots of on-set photos showed up on various platforms.

Then they mysteriously get deleted and/or accounts go private.

That was my point. I never said anything about the amount they post or what they post just that they do post and then close the accounts down or delete the stuff.

It's annoying as hell.

And Walter, your missing my point.

So I'll go even slower.

Yes, lots of on set pictures showed up for the small pilot, that was filmed back in March. And CBS as they are entitled to do, shut them down. I assume for confidentiality reasons. This pilot was filmed under David Von Ancken and his team, most now probably detached from this project.

Let's use the analogy, of a shop - that had a bad reputation. If you were brought in to run this shop, and were aware it had a negative or bad history attached. You would likely close down the shop for a short period of time, renovate it to your specifications, and then re-open and unleash it onto the world again, under new management.

This is similar to what CBS has done here. The reason they closed down accounts, was to allow the new show-runner to take charge, redesign and move this project in a new direction. We already know a new pilot episode has been written, so all previous tweets, pics and promos are old and unrelatable to this project going forward. If they hadn't done this, you or someone would have complained about that too.

Since late May, Peter Lenkov has taken charge of this project, going back to source material, reconstructing the origin story, wrote a new pilot script, re-cast, brought a new team on board and listened to the feedback from fans. They are working hard on creating a new and improved show with limit time. You may have been annoyed over them shutting down accounts, but all this was necessary (as the show took a new course). As for the lack of tweets. It's been far too early, up to this point - nothing concrete to tell. They have been doing their job, and tweeting isn't one of them. They are busy working hard organizing everything in preparation for filming. My point being - They have limited time to be tweeting at this point.

So when they do tweet - we should be grateful that they are tweeting at all, and thankful we are getting anything. Because it's not part of the job description, it is something that has been imposed on the business - and must be embraced.

In other words it's trade secrecy, goes on every business usually

Brian Durkin is all ready to go... so I guess the writers don't have to stay indoors writing all the time ;-)

Not a hundred percent sure; but I guess John Turman (The Hulk, Rise of the Silver Surfer) also joined the writer's crew via https://twitter.com/theTurman/status/760741523134742528
