Hi, I am new on this forum and enjoying all the new information about the original MacGyver. I saw many post about the original Chevignon MacGyver Jacket, the other versions like the Avirex and the new available replicas, which I don't like at all, from the photos I have seen.

I was wondering if anyone here knew how much it cost in the 80's for a Chevignon Jacket like MacGyver? and how much this now vintage jacket would cost? (not a replica, not another brand but the original Chevignon version). I think several people here have been lucky enough to find and buy these rare jackets. Can you tell me how much you pay for it? just to have an idea of its value on the vintage market today. If anyone has one for sale, let me know as well.
Thanks,
Chevignon

Hi,

I've bought several over the past 20 years or so, and I would say I paid around $300, give or take for the jackets, but I can't remember exactly.

Thanks!

Paul

WOW great picture with you in a MacGyver outfit and Richard Dean Anderson!!! Your chevignon jacket look great! Must have been cool wearing it when you met RDA! Did he said anything about it? Did you had your jacket signed, inside on the chevignon logo? 300$ is a very good price, but now they look like impossible to find....and the replicas leather doesn’t seem to match the original. ;(

Thanks! He said that's the first one he's seen and that it was spot on (other than a different Chevignon label on the inside). It's the first one his personal assistant has seen since he's been involved in the last 14 years. Chevignon had several versions of their tags, but mine has the exact same tartan lining. The leather is exactly the same. It's very soft and the light almost gives it a "wet" look from the the little shiny black pieces of the distress in it. His personal assistant said he's been thinking about producing a MacGyver style jacket line for charity. I've been emailing him back and forth about it. When we did the public Q&A at the convention during his panel discussion, he remembered me from the autograph line and told me to hold up my jacket to show everyone.

Now that's a cool story!!

If you're interested in seeing more about the jacket we have a really interesting discussion about it https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/aclk?sa=L&ai=CPxvJ-Os6XbnaB8K6kgP76ayYD6XVnbEFjdzCup8Cpp6tjWsQBiDEy90IKAhgydb6hoCAoBnIAQGoAwHIAwKqBNkBT9CGy0F4vFkkfTpvj6HkoWlnAGm2HHEmmrzg2xQkxiHSDjW3kcvgcznDM2lbTHTpHNezA_8915TMHeyiMbLf2EH585b28Y4hv8xK0P2tKvZLjx4veGHey_5rKdXYjZmj41ukOjoALcm87lCFGy7EhoobqfWteI0IrKWlGaqiteE7Bk2WMlEuEtHaDdZ-die_yxnPb3AM3xWVXqlBvsY6yYqN8dt5q1DGrCXt9QLJhIdWqDJwVJsUbNOK18AGVZKE7RLqJpwDGBOEb9_ZbC2kvAPb_aDAm6HKoaAGRcAGC4AH5ffiNagHjs4bqAfVyRuoB8HTG6gHhdQbqAeB1BuoB4LUG6gHhtQbqAeE1BuoB-DTG6gHugaoB9nLG6gHz8wbqAemvhuoB_PRG6gH7NUb2AcB0ggHCIBhEAEYDoAKAQ&ae=1&num=6&sig=AOD64_2nxkg4jCsZck7pD_w51jF6uKVCZA&adurl=http://www.macgyveronline.com/forums/index.php%3Fshowtopic%3D6557%26st%3D9.999999999999998

I was really supprised at how heavy those jackets are, although just thinking about it now.. I have a black jacket which is also pretty heavy, so it probably shouldn't have surprised me as much as it did. laugh.gif

But how cool that you had something that caught both guys attention and Richard wanted to share it with everyone too. biggrin.gif

Very Cool Story indeed!!! Makes me want to have a Chevignon Jacket even more now!
It is also very refreshing to see the jacket on someone, not hanging on a coat hanger like most photos we've seen. With the exception of RDA, I've never seen the jacket one someone else until now. COOL!!

Here are some pictures of my replica, respect the same leather: color, nature (lambskin), texture, thickness 0.8 to 1.2 mm) and weight as the original.
The pattern is the same, taken at 1: 1 from a original Chevignon by an expert, adding the shorter wind flap like the one in RDA. The tartan lining is not identical, it's already impossible to find it the same, but it is made of wool as the original. The RDA sleeves are too short, here somewhat longer so that they do not get on the arm while driving. The rest is 100% identical to the original.

Some corrections such as the decompensated neck and poorly sewn of RDA, and the improperly mounted zipper (does not reach the top) have not been taken, I see them as seamstress failures or subsequent modifications (the zipper possibly broke or came incorrectly mounted)

Chevignon, what do you dislike about these replicas? Honestly, I have had some originals in my hand and they don't look like RDA's too much, this is the most faithful when modifying all the changes that it brings as standard, that you can not find in 100 original Chevignons. Even the leather is close to 1 mm like that of RDA, the originals almost all are thicker: 1.2, so they are stiffer. But for tastes, the colors.
Regards.

Very cool.

The only reason I've never brought one is because I don't know what size to get.

It's hard to know what size to order without being able to try them on and it's a lot of money to spend on a jacket that doesn't fit properly.

the chevignon's run small, so whatever size you would normally get a jacket in, get the bigger size up

Hi Everyone,

It looks like Chevignon has released a flight jacket named "Gyver." Check it out!

Posted by: CHEVIGNON 13 October 2020 - 03:01 PM
Thanks for this info!! Too bad that even Chevignon is unable to make an accurate replica of their own jacket!!?!
It look nice, but lack personality compare to the original. It’s called the Gyver, but it’s far from being a MacGyver Jacket. Missed opportunity in my view.

Posted by: macgybl 18 October 2020 - 05:59 PM
It’s been too long. They’re forgotten what it looked like. Even though a G2 is a standard.

Totally agree.

Such a shame. Could have been something special there.

Averiex made a jacket that is almost identical.

I've sold several Chevignons over the years. This is my current collection, plus the one Avriex. You almost can't tell which one isn't a Chevignon.

To the untrained eye, they look very similar but once you’ve seen both, they have many differences that makes the Chevignon unique. I used to like my Avirex but not anymore. It’s important to say that even the flight jacket Chevignon model can have many differences between each other and Mac’s jacket seem to have them all! It’s not only difficult to find an original Chevignon, but it’s much harder to find one that has the same differences as Mac’s jacket has. But if we go back to the differences between Avirex and Chevignon...here’s a few:

Posted by: CHEVIGNON 9 November 2020 - 04:52 PM
Obviously the exclusive tartan lining that you can only find in a Chevignon. You can't buy this fabric anywhere...and even the close one don't have the same feel to it.

Posted by: CHEVIGNON 9 November 2020 - 04:55 PM
The cuffs show no sewing as the avirex, which make it look much better, gives it a better finish aspect

Posted by: CHEVIGNON 9 November 2020 - 04:57 PM
The wind flap has triangular sewing on it. Don’t know why but It’s a nice detaili

Posted by: CHEVIGNON 9 November 2020 - 05:01 PM
The zipper pull tab are different

Posted by: macgybl 9 November 2020 - 05:01 PM
Did anyone ever determine the G2 Mac wore in the later seasons? It looked like it had a white or lighter color lining

Posted by: CHEVIGNON 9 November 2020 - 05:25 PM
And this is just naming a few. I've notice on your Chevignon that you don't have the visible sewing between shoulder and arms. That's one of those differences we find between chevignons

Posted by: lexscape 9 November 2020 - 05:52 PM
Absolutely agree. There’s nothing like the actual Chevignon brand. I was surprised by how close the Avriex was, in general though. The type of leather and the finish is very close.

Before I watched images about a store in Spain that made Macgyver jackets. Does anyone know if it still works? or publishes the photography of the store? I remember that the store was Giovanni Milano. Thanks

This jacket is completely original, and comes with the original tag. It doesn't look bad, although some minor repair will be necessary.

Richard Dean Anderson wore black G2 jacket in "Point of No Return" episode of the fourth season of Stargate SG-1.
Very simillar to MacGyver.

These are my MacGyver jackets. The left one is the Chevignon and the right one is Avirex.

Then some thoughts. Chevignon looks much cooler on and in general it is tighter but heavier and more uncomfortable to wear. Avirex is also softer and likely made from goat hide. I tend to wear the Avirex more often because it is more comfortable but when I go to special occasions, I prefer to choose the Chevignon since it looks more sharp smile.gif

welcome to the chevignon club! The OG Macgyver Jacket.

There was never a definitive answer on what the Macgyver jacket was in the later seasons but I never ruled out Avirex. Both of yours look nice!

Posted by: Leevi 30 January 2023 - 01:06 AM
Thank you! smile.gif

My understanding is that the consensus seems to be that the later jacket was Avirex, especially when considering their role in the industry. But as you said, there is not a definitive answer yet.

I am looking for the lining of the Charles Chevignon Paris, it seems that it is a Scottish tartan with the colors red, yellow and black?
I currently can't find it and I don't know where to buy it.
Can somebody help me?

Hi Pablo!

Welcome to the forum! If I were you, I would keep my eyes on various sites on the web. These jackets tend to pop up time to time but you may need to be fast! wink.gif For example, I bought my Chevignon from your country. So keep searching with Google and sooner or later you find one!

Best of luck!
