I'm not sure what this article means... apparently, they will present MacGyver-themed slot machines at the National Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention?

http://www.yogonet.com/international/noticias/2018/04/03/46252-novomatic-presents-latest-porfolio-at-niga-2018 via YogoNet News on Twitter.

Center stage at the Novomatic Americas booth will be two licensed games displayed in a PlayerPocket format, From Dusk Till Dawn and the iconic TV show hit, MacGyver.

I'm all for MacGyver-themed stuff, but not sure if that the best thing to have of our idol tongue.gif

Here's another picture from an older article.

That's a little odd... I totally get what you're saying. I doubt Mac would approve of slot machines.

Posted by: DashboardOnFire 4 April 2018 - 08:55 AM
Ugh. He's talking like he's trying to sell a car or a computer.

I don't know anything about slot machines. I have no clue what he's saying laugh.gif

“NIGA is one of the most exciting yearly tradeshows we attend,” said Rick Meitzler, President, and CEO of Novomatic Americas. “We’re looking forward to this year’s show because it gives our Tribal customers a chance to see what we have been working on over the last year. Showing for the first time in the US, we have the PANTHERA and PANTHERA Curve cabinets and the V.I.P. LOUNGE Curve, licensed content with From Dusk Till Dawn and MacGyver and our new Enchanted Fortunes Linked Jackpot product. It definitely demonstrates our continued commitment to offering Tribal innovations that drive performance.”

Since Gambling Addiction is no joke, I'm not sure why 80s/90s-themed-slot machines are nice to have for "Tribal customers" blink.gif

I have no idea either. Course, I don't gamble, so I wouldn't know anything about this stuff.

What MacGyver need is a full blown video game on PS4 or a pinball machine.

Can't argue with that, but they'd probably have to make one for all platforms. Not everyone has PS4.

Doesn't surprise me. It's not like he stands for anything anymore anyway. Sheesh! That's 3 any's! laugh.gif

If the reboot is anything to go by, Mac & his team use violence to solve problems, drink. So why would spending your hard earned cash be any different? Right? wink.gif blink.gif laugh.gif

Not if it is a PS4 exclusive. But you're probably right.

Yes, but the slot machine seems to be styled after he original, so... unsure.gif

Posted by: Jediferret 5 April 2018 - 02:27 PM
Well, if they do a video game it would be based off the reboot, not the original.

Though, I'm pretty sure CBS just wants to pretend the original doesn't exist anymore, but still bank on it's popularity.

I actually did a thread a long time ago on what I'd like to see in a MacGyver video game. XD I could probably did that sucker up and blow off the cyber dust. biggrin.gif

I know I said this before, but I think the Nancy Drew games match MacGyver in some ways. That'd be a good starting point for a MacGyver game.

Well, I know about them NOW. Guess some people will bank off anything popular to make money.

I always thought the "Broken Sword" games would have been a great template for a MacGyver game. They were classic point and click adventures, which definitely fit the MacGyver style the best, since many of the puzzles rely on figuring out how to use items in unconventional ways to solve problems. And the settings for the Broken Sword games often felt like they'd fit right in with Mac's world. I mean, look at some of these screenshots, and tell me this couldn't be adapted into a MacGyver game:

Anyway, back on topic.... slot machines... odd choice for branding, but pretty cool!

Designed after the reboot would make it not worth bothering with. THE REBOOT SUCKS!!

Considering how much different the reboot is from the original, it would make more sense for them to style this after the reboot, in my opinion. The reboot is popular enough, so they'd still be banking on popularity.

There's a slot machine conference going on this week-end in Los Vegas. The MacGyver slot machines are front and center of Novomatic's display stand.

I’m going to be in Las Vegas in a couple weeks I wonder if I can find out if they are anywhere?

How cool is this header they made for the top of the machines.

I wish I'd thought of something like this for our site logo. laugh.gif

In the casinos. laugh.gif

I've reached out to the company to get some information, but they haven't responded other than to say they've passed my request onto head office. (Translation = you'll never hear from us again.)

There are a lot of casinos lol - but I'm going to be in Vegas in 2 weeks! I would certainly go see it if I knew where it was!

It's apparently not available until Nov 15.

Hey Guys,

I see you've found our game! I head up the studio that produced it. We're located just outside of Chicago, but the company headquarters is over in Austria.

Feel free to ask me anything you'd like to know about the game or how we made it. It's been a labor of love for about 18 months now, and you should know that your site was definitely one of our resources.

The game is in final testing now, followed by 3rd party certification. You should see it on casino floors soon.

All the best!

Matt

Great to have you here Matt.

I really love the header logo (see below image). I'd love to hear a bit more about how that and the rest of the graphics all came about as well as the general background story from conception to reality.

The images in the header are both from season 2. Was this season a particular focus for the game?

First, let me say thank you for making the theme the old series and not the new! happy.gif

Sounds like I'll have to find them on my next Vegas trip, as they won't be ready for Nov 2nd, but I look forward it!

Some of the back story.

First off, we're always looking at shows, movies, and music for possible licensing. For historical reasons, Novomatic is not a huge player in this type of game, but if MacGyver is successful it'll lead to more. I was happy to find the license available, and it's been very smooth working with CBS on approvals.

After securing the license, we set out to watch as many episodes as possible. I was a fan during the original run, but I'll admit to not having watched the show since then. It was surprising just how much I remembered! As we watched, we took notes: iconic scenes/images, good quotes, anything that helped get the feel of the show. We also scoured the net for sites like this to see what still resonated.

Only then did we start designing the game, laying out options for symbols, and brainstorming bonus features. The original symbols included Pete, Jack, and Nikki (the only other characters we had rights to use), but we ended up focusing on Mac. The symbols are in three basic categories: Mac, Transportation, Gadgets. Just coincidence that the hovercraft and glider both came out of season 2. In the game and final toppers, you'll see that the SAK is blue. Unfortunately, the red is owned by Victorinox...

Two main bonus features, Bomb and Diamond. The Bomb bonus is a composite of many episodes and leverages a currently popular game mechanic. The Diamond bonus was inspired by season 1's The Heist. The original version had a mechanic similar to season 3's Fire and Ice, but that was simplified after focus testing.

The other bonus that was worked up but ultimately left on the cutting room floor involved MacGyver rescuing Pete, Jack, and Nikki. Maybe in the sequel.

Sadly, we're not licensed in Nevada, so you won't find the game in a Las Vegas casino! We are in many other states, so hopefully, you have a casino nearby.

Thanks for the backstory, what a fun job! Any coming to Washington State?

Posted by: NovoMatt 25 October 2018 - 12:58 PM
Hello,

Sorry, not any time soon. Washington uses a different set of rules for their slot machines than any other market. We have a sister company that converts games to their rules, but it's a complicated arrangement and I don't think it would happen soon.

I'm not happy that we're 0 for 2 in the markets people named! Anyone in California?

Matt

Your not licensed for the gambling capital of the U.S.? That seems like quite a mis-step.

Are you licensed in other countries or just the US?

Posted by: NovoMatt 26 October 2018 - 04:16 AM
Hello,

We're based in Austria and have significant pieces of the European, South American, and African markets. Just starting our efforts to enter the North American markets, and a strategic decision was made to start outside of Nevada. Plenty of other casinos where we can test and evolve our content before tackling Vegas. The style of the content and gameplay is quite different.

Regards,
Matt
