A Canadian classic:

Good Grief! I haven't heard 'Edmund Fitzgerald' for years! Used to be a standard at singarounds at English folk festivals.

I'm currently listening to this:

You need to click the share button on the youtube video and then click the embed option. Then you just copy and paste the code it gives you into the post here.

You just need to be aware that if you go back and edit your post you need to remove the [dohtml] tag at either end of the code because it adds a new set each time you post or edit. - bit of a pain but the only way I could get iot to work with such old software.

Posted by: Joe SAKic 18 May 2014 - 08:06 AM
Nice selection, Rocket -I'll have to dig a bit more into their catalogue.

The Vancouver band 'Doug and the Slugs' and a good run during the 1980s ... RDA, MDB & anybody else who spent some time there back then would definitely have crossed paths with them eventually. Not too well known outside of Canada though ..... anyway one of their classics:

He's a crazy guy. Can't believe he's still doing it after all these years. Still remember his Michael Jackson Parody of "Bad'. He called it "Fat". biggrin.gif

Lately I'm hooked to this song. I played the game last year. One of the best games ever played. Set in 1911 and the way of the West is dying out slowly. The score of the game is real cool to listen to but this song takes the prize. Can't remember when this song was played in the game, maybe it was the end credits. But I really like the lyrics and somehow I recognise a lot of the text in my own life or what has been in my life. I've always had a soft spot for the slower and emotional songs.

I've been listening to this one a lot lately. I love Portal, though I need to play Portal 2. GLaDOS cracks me up.

Here's another one but I like Deadman's Gun more. But in this song there's one part the strikes the right nerve with me.

The solo part from 1:11 to 1:48 is a great bit of music. wink.gif

I've been watching a lot of cat videos on YouTube lately, as I moved back to the city and left my cat back home with mum and dad. sad.gif
Steve Cash 83's talking and singing kitties are the best! Here's a cute video of what the world looks like through the eyes of an indoor cat.

Also, Steve Cash has some catchy songs without the cats. smile.gif

Note: There is some bad language in his videos (not those posted above) because his cat has a habit of swearing. So you are warned. whistle.gif

Roxette's The Look song sounds similar as Higher Life by Roxy (Audrey Landers) from Two Times Trouble

Posted by: Jediferret 8 January 2015 - 08:32 PM
Maybe Roxy was inspired from Roxette. I know The Look came out in the beginning of 1989, so it could have been possible.

Posted by: Joe SAKic 8 January 2015 - 09:19 PM
I would say that they 'modelled' Roxy after Roxette, as well. Also, Roxy Music's hits were still getting plenty of air time as well back then .... so 'Roxy' was a clever moniker to appease music fans de jour - for sure.

I was thinking that in this 1986 song (and also in "It's my life") there are two lovers named Tommy and Gina, just like in the episode "Final approach" of the second season (that is 1986). Tommy is a popular name, but Gina is not so popular. What a coincidence hmm.bmp

I found this the other day, thought it was nice to listen to and figured I'd share. Now is it me or does the trumpet remind you of the funeral scene in Trail To Doomsday? Also the use of piano reminds me of it. You might think this inspired Ken Harrison for the funeral theme.

Canada was a hotbed for New Wave in the 80s, love it or hate, you couldn't escape it. I wasn't a big fan but there were some incredible tracks produced & for which you had to take notice. And this was one of them - a sultry dance tune with Sherry Kean's pulpy, crooning vocals carrying it well into the top 20 of the year 1983.

Music seems to have cheaper these days and I've finally joined in with the download it from the internet craze. I've recently bought a number of artists/groups that I grew up with, Lionel Ritchie, Shakin' Stevens, Bonnie Tyler, Adam and the Ants, Duran Duran, Police, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Meatloaf just to see if I still like them. I've mostly gone for the 'Best of' type ones - I've got them all on shuffle in the car, but have been playing the individual albums at home. Those that have got most play recently are Elton John (I downloaded a double album and was amazed at how many well known songs he has actually done that I like, some are very melancholy/emotionally loaded numbers, I've been loving it), I really like Bonnie Tylers Ravishing album too. Shakin' Stevens one is still great when I want something upbeat - I've only ever done two live performances - he was the first (Springsteen was the second - just because I thought the chance to see a so called 'great' was too good to miss), I've always loved Meatloaf and they get a lot of play time - esp. whilst driving.

More modern stuff I enjoy 99% of my Robbie Williams albums - In and out of consciousness and his swing one - not so keen on the swing stuff, but its OK. I got Lady Antebellum's first one - I love that hit that went up the UK charts 'Need you now' - lovely harmonies - I play their album lot, I liked Mika's first big album - also play that a lot, and if you want a compilation album that can do absolutely no wrong, there is not a dud on it IMO, then my favourite is the Top Gun extended edition.

You can kind of see why I think the invention of 'shuffle' is the best thing since sliced bread LOL!

I'm amazed at how Daft Punk have been able to survive all these years. They're dynamic. Tron saved them too. But I love their music. Even the one guy from Daft Punk when he went solo and did Stardust.

Posted by: Jediferret 11 December 2015 - 01:03 PM
Actually, it was the Tron Legacy soundtrack that got me into Daft Punk. They kinda grew on me, as I didn't like much of their stuff at first. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger was probably one of my first favorites. I hadn't realized they were around for such a long time either... holy moly!

These sound very 80's euro dancey. I vaguely remember the hype of this music back in the day.

Posted by: Macgyver1985 7 March 2016 - 04:59 AM
The European disco tunes were generally played in the Nightclubs. The vast majority of the tunes you heard on the radio in those days originated from America. European tunes were seldom played on any radio station. huh.gif

Posted by: Joe SAKic 7 March 2016 - 06:07 AM
True, but the UK had lots of gr8 disco:

'Gloria' was an Euro original, but it's a bit tame for my liking. Much prefer Branigan's cover:

Posted by: Jediferret 7 March 2016 - 05:19 PM
Gloria was one of my Mom's exercise songs... that and Jump from the Pointer Sisters. Of course, I prefer Laura Branigan's version as well. Self Control is actually one of my favorites, followed closely by You keep Me Hanging On by Kim Wilde.

Good times, good times. wink.gif

Posted by: denizen 7 March 2016 - 08:19 PM
I remember these ladies. Pity about Laura Branigan. She passed away quite a few years ago.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 8 March 2016 - 04:21 AM
Last night I sort of discovered something new. So I was updating my movie list and I was listening to the soundtrack of the game L.A. Noire on YouTube. Autoplay was on so after the game music was over a new clip started to play. This was Jazz Noir music. I don't know anything of Jazz music but it sure sounded like... more. It was very relaxing and soothing. It helped me calming down and to stay focused.

I sure like to hear more.

Posted by: denizen 8 March 2016 - 06:06 AM
I like a lot of modern jazz. Like Jazzmasters & Rippingtons. Still old school jazz is great if it carries a nice tune. smile.gif

Posted by: Joe SAKic 8 March 2016 - 07:01 PM
Yeah, both 'Gloria' & 'Self Control' reached #1 in Canada. I saw her perform live @ Molson Amphitheater in Toronto back in the mid '80s, a Monday night in September iirc. Remember she was dressed all in black leather and in between songs just kept sayin 'I Love you Toronto!' biggrin.gif

Check out the Mullets on these Niagara Falls rockers, circa 1984:

I've been listening to a lot of Lady Antebellum (LA) lately, relatively recently I discovered that it isn't expensive to download things from Amazon music and I've been topping up with lots of familiar 80's music, but I discovered LA when they did 'Need you now' which I think it just about the greatest track I'd heard for a long time, the harmonies, the words, the story - it all worked - it went No. 1 in the UK for a good few weeks. So over the last couple of weeks I downloaded the rest of the album that was on and found two more on Amazon '747 (international delux)' and 'Golden' - it's great easy listening music and well done too - they are very talented - again the harmonies are brilliant - just what I like when I'm bored stiff working, but still need to concentrate. It's a bit country, a bit rock, a bit blues - plenty of minor key and you can kind of lose yourself in wishing you were where the stories told in the music are.

I kinda debated about posting this, but... what the hell... This is the first single from the solo album of one of my favorite singers. The song itself... well, I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me, especially after listening to the acoustic version. Carah Faye has some hella amazing pipes!

God, that hair! XD Such a great song though!

Here's one of my favorite artists back when I was a teenager. I had a friend who was learning to play violin and introduced me to Vanessa Mae. I've been a fan ever since. She was really cool back then because she was one of the first to mix classical, techno and rock.

But this piece was always one of my favorites. wink.gif

I remember Vanessa Mae. She was quite huge back in the 90's. Apparently she left the music business after making a killing and became a world champion skiing pro.

Just wanted to share these. The themes of Rohan, Evenstar and Into The West played on a ocarina. Never even heard of the instrument before but well played.

Further more I have found these two harp playing angels doing their cover of Into the West and a Lord of the Rings medley.

Enjoy.

Posted by: Jediferret 30 December 2016 - 07:24 PM
Evenstar is actually one of my favorite tracks from Lord of the Rings. May It Be by Enya and Lord of the Rings reminds me of being in my early 20's when I still lived in Virginia. I don't think I've been to that area in like... ten years, at the least.

Very lovely though. smile.gif

Posted by: MacGyverGod 31 December 2016 - 04:59 AM
Evenstar is indeed beautiful and one of my favorites too. It shows the love Arwen has to give and the pain she's going through. And actually it wants me to learn how to speak Quenya (Elvish). Here are the lyrics to Evenstar.

Evenstar

Ú i vethed...
n i onnad.
Si boe ú-dhannathach
Ae ú-esteliach nad —
Estelio han —
estelio veleth.

This is not the end...
It is the beginning.
You cannot falter now
If you trust nothing else
Trust this —
Trust love.

I did find a bit on the language of Elves on Wikipedia. Apparently it's loosely based on Finnish. And you can learn how to count, use a few words and how to say hello and goodbye.

I just really like the peace and soothing tone of these clips. Couldn't we just all live in a fantasy world for real?

Here are a few more.

Mostly modern stuff though like Spyrogyra, Paul Hardcastle and of course one of my now favorites, The Rippingtons. Here' one calls Stories of a Painted Desert. Amazing stuff.

If I had to choose, my three favourite songs are:

- 'We Are the Champions' by Queen
- 'You're The Best' by Joe Esposito
- 'Pressure' by Billy Joel

I think that the song 'Pressure' really suits MacGyver, because when isn't he under pressure? XD (I also feel the same about 'Under Pressure' by Queen!)

Just watched Lost Highway and noticed this song.

Song To The Siren

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you

Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you here when I was forced out
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks
For you sing, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow
Oh my heart, Oh my heart shies from the sorrow"

Well I'm as puzzled as the newborn child
I'm as riddled as the tide
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Or should I lie with death, my bride?
Hear me sing, "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you
Here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you"

Xena's battle theme. One of the best ever. Based on the Bulgarian folk song Kaval Sviri but with new lyrics and sung in Bulgarian.

This is the original and actual song.

And here's another cover.

@denizen - Yeah, I like a lot of his stuff. I'll listen to some of his songs from Morrowind and Oblivion. It just makes for excellent work music that I let run and now worry about it.

That's a neat track. I'm ashamed to admit that I've never played Hitman. XD I had a friend visiting and while I was at work, he downloaded Hitman Absolution to my Xbox... it must have been free or something. I never gave it go, and I kept meaning to. lol

I've been listening to a lot of Celldweller lately. But I'm not sure if you guys would like his stuff. It's a bit harder than I normally post. But, he did the Scandroid songs I posted earlier. I've been quite addicted to him lately. biggrin.gif

But, here's a less harsh song I found around the same time that's kinda cool.

The Escape From New York theme, played lived by John Carpenter himself. Somehow this reminded me of the Pilot episode where Mac removes the beam with the fire hose.

The awkward thing about listening to this song was I was listening to it when all that hype about MDB's guest appearance in the reboot was circulating. Everyone was saying stuff like, "The worse Murdoc gets, the better I like him!" And the song's second line goes, "I'm bad behavior but I do it in the best way!" roller.gif

I'm fond of this one. If you don't like music with screaming, this song may not be for you. wink.gif

Posted by: Dragondog 12 March 2018 - 04:46 PM
This song has less screaming. I remember it playing all the time when I was in elementary school, so it's a little vintage to me.

When I was skimming for videos for The Dog Island game, I came across soundtrack videos for it, and for Petz Dogz 2/Catz 2. While I think The Dog Island is superior in many ways, including the music, I really love this Petz song. It's possibly the only one that ties with my favorite Dog Island songs.

Posted by: Dragondog 13 March 2018 - 06:00 PM
Forgive my Dog Island kick, but I found this, too. It's the opening song, sung both in English and Japanese, sung by a fan. She sings REALLY good! Better than I can, anyway.

We go into kicks. I get into various kicks at different times... penalty of having many interests. lol

Randomly found this on New Retro Wave and figured it was worth sharing. It's on an album called https://alphaboymusic.bandcamp.com/album/heroes-on-tape.

So if anyone's interested, here's a link to the rest of the soundtrack for The Dog Island. I don't know how interested anyone is, but I'm posting this just in case.

If any of you do decide to check it out, can you tell me what you think? I like the songs, and think they put a lot of talent into composing the background music, but I'm not sure how much of that is my childhood nostalgia. Most people I've read commenting on the YouTube videos of the soundtrack comment on the "childhood feels", so it'd be interesting to get the viewpoint of someone who's never played the game.

Here's the link: http://thedogisland.wikia.com/wiki/Soundtrack

Posted by: Dragondog 11 April 2018 - 09:25 AM
I also need to add these two songs that aren't included in the link I just posted.

This one probably isn't included because it's very similar to the "Cave theme". Most people mistakenly think it's the same song, but if you listen to the "Cave theme", then listen to this one, you can tell they're different.

And this one, which isn't included for a reason I can't figure out. The song's not actually 30 minutes, it just plays on a loop for that long. It was the only one I could find.

Posted by: Dragondog 12 April 2018 - 03:07 PM
So when skimming YouTube, I found this. I never owned or played this game, but the theme music is cute. I played the sequel, which, on the PC version, has the same theme music, but without the words. I didn't even know until today that there was a version with lyrics. blink.gif

Good luck getting it out of your head. You're welcome.

I'm the queen of getting songs stuck in my head... XD

But my latest work listens... smile.gif

This is my sister, and she can't get it out of her head... MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Listening to some club hits from 1986! biggrin.gif

That second one sounded kind of sad... I was listening to it while reading info about How to Train Your Dragon 3 XD

That last one... What the heck did I just watch? blink.gif

Posted by: Jediferret 30 April 2018 - 06:55 AM
Actually I find that second one rather relaxing. Mass Effect 3's love theme rather sad though, but it's the context.

That last one? XD Let's just say my sister likes weird videos.... the weirder, the better.

Posted by: Dragondog 1 May 2018 - 10:05 AM
Hey, Jedi, has your sister ever seen this one?

Posted by: Dragondog 3 May 2018 - 11:55 AM
Okay, so I managed to find a video for this song I already posted, but this one's at a decent length. It plays twice, but if you want a time-stamp, it plays until 2:31, then starts again. I doubt anyone's really interested, but here:

Posted by: Dragondog 3 May 2018 - 12:03 PM
I finally found the instrumental version of the weird cat song I posted in the previous page. I think it's rather relaxing, and doesn't have those annoying "meow" lyrics. tongue.gif

Posted by: Jediferret 3 May 2018 - 12:59 PM
I bet my sister has seen that badger video, but I'll show it to her tomorrow when she comes over.

Now, just take a minute and enjoy this start menu for Dragon Age Inquisition. Sometimes I just boot up the game, and leave it running on the menu for a while.

Posted by: Dragondog 3 May 2018 - 01:40 PM
You should show her this too. It's the last of my weird vids, I promise tongue.gif

Posted by: Jediferret 15 May 2018 - 04:33 AM
Can never have too many weird vids. smile.gif

I'm not a huge Halo fan, but I always loved this track.

Posted by: denizen 15 May 2018 - 08:07 PM
Love Halo. And its subtle music rises to the occasion.

Nearly put myself to sleep listening to this Owl City song:

Posted by: MacGyverGod 31 May 2018 - 06:14 AM
Still watching Xena. Last night I have seen the episode Antony & Cleopatra that featured this song.

It's the only song ever used to support a scene in the show, not counting both musical episodes. Probably because of it this episode is not available on Netflix and neither is the 100th episode. Pity, because Antony & Cleopatra is one of the better episodes. Anyway, it's a nice song.

Man, I haven't heard Carnival in a LOOONG time. Amazing how songs like that can just teleport you to a different time in your life. Totally different then how it is now.

These are my current tracks I'm listening to.

Dunno why, but the last part of the track is my favorite part!

And this has gotten fairly popular since the reveal trailer of DMC5. Still not sure if I'm gonna get it, but I always loved the music to DMC3. It was one of my guilty pleasures.

Posted by: denizen 9 July 2018 - 08:49 PM
Interesting. Which game is that first video from?

Posted by: Jediferret 10 July 2018 - 03:34 AM
The music isn't for any particular game. It's just "epic" music. I tend to let these things play on auto while I do other stuff until I come across one I like. The artwork is from a smart phone RPG called Fate/GrandOrder.

Posted by: Jediferret 1 August 2018 - 10:39 AM
Not really music per say, but there's music in the background. I work alone a lot, so I loop these and it makes me not feel so by myself. I like working alone, but it does get a bit too boring and lonely sometimes around here. Not complaining..... XD

I don't watch Disney Descendants, but someone mashed a song from it with Dreamworks Dragons clips. I'm loving this video laugh.gif

Posted by: Dragondog 8 September 2018 - 09:26 AM
I am currently obsessed with this one:

Posted by: Jediferret 1 October 2018 - 12:41 PM
These have been on repeat lately. biggrin.gif

And this one... I dunno why I like it, but I do. It's kinda sad though.

Posted by: Dragondog 1 October 2018 - 02:14 PM
Here's a song that the Nintendo eShop uses around Halloween

Also they have used this one:

This one isn't Halloween-y at all, but I still like it. Don't know why XD

Also, I've been watching a of of videos with this song. Though I've never been hit on, I still like the way this song presents it XD

Sorry, I don't have a video of just the song, so I just posted one of the videos that has it

Posted by: Dragondog 2 October 2018 - 10:57 AM
A friend of mine made this video. It makes me want to cry DX

I love it

I don't know what's more awkward, the fact that this cartoon character that's more clumsy and socially awkward than I am can also sing way better than me, or that I'm listening to songs from a children's show in the first place...

What the heck? I'm a fan of the show, so of course I watch videos based on it. So that makes the first one definitely more awkward XD

Also, I love how at 2:51 Cat Noir runs past Ladybug and he's running like Sonic, while Ladybug is running like a normal person would tongue.gif

I stumbled across this gem for the first time last week - what an earwig! It's been stuck in my head off and on for over a week! It was more sticky than the music from A Star is Born laugh.gif

Posted by: Jediferret 14 October 2018 - 04:09 AM
LOL! I always said RDA was more of an entertainer than an actor. He just seems to like hamming it up. XD He is totally adorable though.

@Dragondog - I wouldn't even worry about it. We all have our things we like that are a bit... awkward. For instance, I like ASMR videos. Some of my friends think it's weird and it makes them uncomfortable. But, I don't care because they help me cope when I have a migraine.

Too me a minute to find something worth sharing... XD My tastes in music isn't always everyone's cup of tea. lolz

yeah, it's good he switched to acting laugh.gif His band had sort of a weird Beatles meets Ramones vibe lol.

On another note, I give you a bit of funk from my favorite band, dedicated to the episode Ghost Ship biggrin.gif

LOL! Yeah, RDA's music was okay. Not really my style. This more my style:

@Dragondog - What's wrong with the Baby Shark song? That's my sister! XD

Here's a video one of my said friends made to "help take our minds off the baby shark song". We still haven't forgiven her roller.gif

John Carpenter scored the latest Halloween film himself just as he did for the first two movies and most of his own films. This is the first movie he scored in 17 years. Clearly he hasn't lost his touch as this defining track proves.

Though one of the first to use electronic film score, I think this wouldn't have been bad to use as MacGyverism music.

Posted by: Jediferret 10 November 2018 - 10:08 PM
Yes, yes... I know... I'm a tad obsessed at the moment. Leave me alone... XD

Basically Castlevania's main theme. It was even integrated into the hero battle music for the Anime: https://youtu.be/3QLi7ITIibU

And this one, simply because I remember having the worst time with this level and people used to get mad at me for dying all the time. XD Damn pendulums.....
