There are two different Crossover Previews right now. The one from EW posted earlier has an additional scene with MacGyver falling down the rubble. I don't know why the official preview by CBS took that out. Guess it had too much of MacGyver in it *grrrrr*

There are lot of websites speculating about a possible Season 2 renewal. CBS usually doesn't reveal their schedule until the Upfronts in May, but who knows - they could profit from the buzz about the crossover and announce it this Friday (IF both shows are renewed).
I don't agree with everything written there, but here are the interesting parts:
CBS' 'MacGyver' Reboot Has Been A Ratings Hit — But Will There Be A Season 2?
(...)
In television, Friday nights are largely regarded as the death slot, or at the very least, the slot where you send a show to die off. The fear of Fridays lies in the fact that it's the end of the working week — people go out on Friday nights — so it's incredibly rare that a new show can survive that unfortunate time slot.
When MacGyver first premiered back in September, it brought in a whopping 10.9 million viewers on a Friday night, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since CBS' hugely popular drama Ghost Whisperer aired back in 2005. While you might argue that this high number was primarily down to viewer curiosity — and you'd partially be right — this cannot be the whole truth because, despite a small decrease, the ratings for the show have remained incredibly high for the whole season, pulling in an average of 7 million viewers each week.
For a show that was dismissed as a failure before it even began — not to mention the deadly time slot in which it airs — pulling in viewing figures this high is almost unheard of. Despite a rather negative critical reception to the pilot episode, the people have continued tuning in week after week. Furthermore, the seres has already went on a number of hiatus' and the viewing figures have remained unaffected. In fact, some of the hiatus' worked in the action drama's favor, increasing the viewers upon its return. If anything, The ratings have proven that MacGyver is the fixer-upper that Friday night television needs.
With ratings like that, I can't see CBS passing on a second season of MacGyver. The freshman drama is full of originality despite it's ties to the original series and there's no denying that the show has been a success on social media, often trending on Friday nights.

Moreover, let's not forget that there is a MacGyver/Hawaii Five-0 crossover coming up soon. How is this relevant? Well, this television event technically means that MacGyver takes place in the same universe as Hawaii Five-0 and I highly doubt that CBS would allow the reboot series to cross over with one of it's biggest series' if there weren't plans for a second season of MacGyver. Also, the show has recently been sold to international UK broadcaster Sky 1, which is one of the biggest networks around.

What's interesting: Lenkov seems sure about more crossovers in the future... and he often talks about what he has planned for the show... so I guess a season renewal might be already in the works?
“There is a detail in the [MacGyver] pilot that, if you look closely — I cut out the part that actually was a little more obvious — on Jack’s gun in the flashback to Iraq, it said, ‘Aloha’ on the barrel,” Peter M. Lenkov, who serves as showrunner on both series, tells TVLine. “That was because Jack (played by George Eads) had actually met McGarrett while in the service, and that was a nod towards that friendship.”
MacGyver viewers never got a good look at Jack’s rifle barrel, but the ‘Aloha’ nod to Five-0‘s McGarrett was there. Another nod came during MacGyver‘s Zodiac Killer-themed episode (in which Jack refers to a having an old buddy in Hawaii), while Five-0‘s Chin Ho recently name-checked the Phoenix Foundation, for which Mac, Jack et al execute covert ops.
“We’ve been playing around with the fact that the universes are the same,” Lenkov notes. “Because the [shows’] ingredients were similar, I always knew that they would somehow have some kind of fusion at some point.”
Setting the stage for Friday’s “fusion,” Lucas Till’s MacGyver and his team are on the way back from a mission, flying over the Pacific, when they get wind of and decide to help with an earthquake relief effort in Hawaii. There, they work with Five-0‘s Chin and Kono (Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park) to rescue a group of trapped government scientists — all while some nefarious types plot to steal the top-secret weaponry from the compromised lab.
As the two pairs get to collaborating, Chin and Kono “are a little skeptical of MacGyver, with the nontraditional ways he’s going about the rescue effort. But I think he wins them over after a while,” Lenkov previews. “That even carries over to [Friday’s] Hawaii Five-0, where they talk about meeting this guy MacGyver who was pretty impressive.”
With Five-0 scheduling issues informing who would and would not get to participate in this first crossover, Lenkov expects that there will be more chances to actually reunite Jack and Alex O’Loughlin’s Steve McGarrett, and maybe get insight into their introduction. “Oh yeah, for sure. The plan is hopefully this is one of a few that we’ll do,” he says.
But when presented with the prospect of one day mining the full, shared CBS drama universe — Hawaii Five-0, after all, crossed over with NCIS: Los Angeles in May 2012, and NCIS‘ Hetty once appeared on Scorpion — Lenkov at first lets out a laugh. MacGyver to Five-0 to NCIS: LA to Scorpion to NCIS to NCIS: New Orleans! And then starts his wheels turning…. After all, during his time as a CSI: NY executive producer, he reminds, “We did a three-way crossover between all of the CSIs, and that was one of my favorite experiences, to see these iconic characters working together. So yeah, that would be supercool.”

This is a cute picture and I can see a Mac/Riley pairing. Unfortunately, it appears they are going down the Bozer/Riley road. UGH!!!
You'd think I should know better than shipping people in real life after spending 5 years in the Twilight fandom
I've always thought these two have good chemistry, but they never have scenes alone and I kinda "forgot" about it. Since they've been preparing for "Bozley" since the beginning, I don't want Riley to suddenly start dating MacGyver. We don't need more relationship drama, all the drama that Jack provides is enough to fill an entire season.

It's sheer luck that I've found it (it's from August) because back then I've been looking for some BtS stuff for days and never found anything. They didn't even put it on their website credentials which is weird.

Here's a Vimeo Video by Picturemill about all their Fall 2016 shows. There's a quick shot of filming the opening title sequence (starts at 5 seconds):

The guest cast list seems very small. The promotional pictures from this episode don't show much.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Thornton was supposed to appear in this episode?
I would think given it is MIT that maybe Riley would be more prominently featured but I guess not. I guess she will be with Bozer...
There are a lot of loose ends to tie up with only a few eps left.
