So this happened this year on a field trip to the North of Spain, when we visited a natural cave system. One of my friends car broke down, and there we were, trying to get a look using movile phones. We couldnt see a thing, so I asked around for a pencil, and took my jump wires from my trunk.

I slit the pencil in half (SAK to the rescue!), took out the graphite and broke it down into smaller pieces. I the attached the wire to both ends of the pencil lead, and hooked it up to my friends car battery. Voala!!!!! Instant light. Light depends on the lenght of the lead.

Strangely enough, no girl came over and said I was brilliant. That, I'm afraid, only happens in movies

We rented the equipment at the cave site. A helmet with a torch connected to an old battery that looked ready to explode, and a paper suit to keep the worst of the dirt off. We looked like a paper towel commercial when we were finally fitted!

I keep glow sticks in the glove box of my van. I drive a lot of back roads for my commute and I'm sure if I break down it won't be near a light. I tried keeping a flashlight, but the batteries always go bad. I've already used one and it worked great!!!
