Sony aren't to blame for the female Ghostbusters. A man called Bill Murray is. He is the one that came up with the idea and pushed for it to happen. Because they could never get him to reprise his role, the production for a third movie went into development hell.

At the end of the day, they were so desperate to make a continuation into the franchise that they ultimately settled on anything. It's not to say that the new Ghostbusters has a poor script or poor direction involved. The movie hasn't even been released yet. It was the original fans that were hanging on a wire for the third movie which never happened and all they got was this. True, the overall opinion of this movie is poor and it certainly won't repeat history like the first movie did back in 1984 but when it comes out, people will still watch it.  Because its still Ghostbusters.

It's not to say that the perception of a female MacGyver would fail regardless of the new Ghostbusters.
Strangely, i always thought it would work very well.

Let's be honest... the new Ghostbusters can't be any worse then GB2 can it. laugh.gif

I think the reboot will stay faithful to the essence of MacGyver, but remember, between the first season and the rest of the show, MacGyver had two different essences, in a sense. I've noticed some complain about MacGyver being too cocky in the reboot trailer, but MacGyver had a bit of a swagger to him in the first season that they dropped in favor of making him more of a boy scout good Samaritan type.

Anyway, what I look forward to is more of MacGyver as a special forces operative/spy, more MacGyverisms, and much less stock footage. Complaining soccer moms won't derail the show this time(though ratings might).

People on this forum should take a moment to watch Hawaii Five-O. They might find that they are worrying over nothing. Mac is in safe hands.

The actors who play McGarrett and Danno have a fantastic chemistry (the bromance thing)in the new H.50, both characters hate each other and must learn to work together. It's funny as we progress through the seasons how this plays out. In season 5 they are in counseling sessions, which are quite humorous and deflect from the rest of the episodes' tense / action scenes. They have tried to stay as through to the original series, while creating a new world and introducing a very strong support cast. It is action pack series, while having a strong sense of family - as a recurring theme. It comes down to a good strong team of writers, great stories, exceptional actors and high production values.

I have no doubt that MacGyver will fit very nicely into this format and style, the original had all those ingredients anyway (for its time). Mac and Jack had their own bromance of sorts, Mac and Jack had a very strong bond. Even though danger tended to be around every corner and Mac tried to avoid getting involved for that very reason. I look forward to seeing how that relationship plays out between Lucas and George. And also how the showrunner can improve, develop and extend the world of the MacGyverisms. And how they can extend the MacGyver character and test him to his limits. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, I want the show to evolve, mature and reinvigorate the series franchise. It would be a dream come true, to go to the cinema and purchase a ticket for a MacGyver Movie on the big screen. I really hope CBS/Lionsgate are the ones to make this happen. We are closer than ever, for this to be a reality.

My hope is that Macgyver truly brings the character out of the 80's and into the 21st century, and we get maybe five seasons at least...

Like I said I am quite happy with all of this and I don't mind a more mature Macgyver and Till is young enough that if for argument sake fans take to him (and he brings in a lot of new fans),and he loves playing the character we could conceivably have him on the small and big screen as Mac for 2 decades ( a 7 season show and instead of TV movies two-three major motion pictures with till as Mac)

It'll be interesting to see how (if at all) the movie and TV show are linked. I know the idea for the movie is (or was) quite a bit different to the TV show and having a movie tie into a currently airing TV show is quite rare. Normally we only see a movie after the show has ended. If anything we usually see the opposite happen where a TV show is made based on a movie.

So I'm interested to see how they work that one.

Lionsgate has stated that the MacGyver movie would not tie in with the CBS tv series. They will be both separate entities. This makes the most sense.

It's essential they do this because - they must cater to a cinema audience who may not necessarily know the character, or have ever seen the tv show. Plus the movie must be able to sit on the schedule, without the broadcaster airing the full TV series.

I envisage that the cast will remain the same, but the movie will have its own standalone story outside of the CBS tv show world. The movie may have its own story arc over each movie sequel. The fact that CBS/Lionsgate are collaborating on this project together means that they can translate and best choreograph the tv show to the big screen, as seamless as possible.

Where did you see that? I've been searching and can't find any such comment.

Lee Zlotoff has always said the movie will be a creation story.. i.e. How MacGyver came to realize his gift for improvisation. If this is still the plan I can't see how they can use the same cast as the show because a creation story would take place some time before the TV show.

I do hope they still find a logical way to put this punch in the new show even though they might have a MacGyver who has some knowledge on fighting skills. HAHAHA.

I am sure that there will be many new changes in the rebooted version of MacGyver. Better acting, as Miasma stated, and a lot of new MacGyverisms. I hope the reboot follows a similar storyline as the original series. I doubt it will be a huge flop, and I will give it a chance and watch the first episode.

I can't say as yet that I will adore or hate it... Be that as it may, it's not my style to enjoy remakes of successful series! We will simply need to sit back and watch how the reboot plays out! biggrin.gif

I read it ages ago... I think it was an article in Variety or Hollywood report? Not sure now, sorry.

But as we've seen...things change so quickly, who knows that comment may not still apply.

Lionsgate is maybe waiting to see how MacGyver does on the small screen first before going full-blooded into a Big Budget movie version.

If (and I hope), when the pilot episode airs and audience respond well to it. I reckon we'll hear more from Lionsgate re: movie.

I doubt Lee zlottoff creation storyline is still on the table, I can't see them going down the young MacGyver storyline for a third unsuccessful time. Do we really need to know how he acquired his skills? Unlike a super-hero story like Spider-man having to explain how he got his powers, there is really no need to explain how MacGyver learnt his skillset. It's a given! After such a backlash - A huge consensus hated the young boy-like MacGyver from the CBS first look trailer, hence Lenkov reconstructing the character to be more adult-like.

It's Lionsgate, not Loingate. One is a studio, and the other is a crotch barrier. I'd be appreciative if we could use the correct name so I can quit picturing men running around in animal skins. tongue.gif

Think about if "MacGyver Smack" punch would have split into three different shots rather than one camera take biggrin.gif Then it wouldn't have been that popular. So they'd better have a good choreography in those fight scenes in the new reboot.

Just thinking about some tv shows that attracted a new audience or were successful after a reboot, the fact is that there are not many, 90210 & Hawaii Five-0 are the best examples, but not sure just hoping that the Macgyver show won't be like the Knight Rider case!

Just as well, Peter Lenkov the creator and showrunner of the rebooted H.50 is the showrunner on the MacGyver Reboot.

And let's be thankful NBC didn't get their hands on MacGyver after their awful attempt at rebooting knight rider.

But we should expect the unexpected! Anything can happen!
