Still doesn't change that they are still implying MacGyver is a tool and still stuck on the damn paperclip fetish.
This kind of stuff really makes me wonder if CBS actually "get" MacGyver. I haven't seen any evidence that they do yet.
I think the paperclip is just shorthand for how MacGyver can take something so innocuous and turn it into a powerful weapon or method of escape. It's not like they're literally going to have Till's MacGyver using a paperclip in every episode.
But Peter Lenkov is a big fan of them on H.50, although they are never stand alone, generally they have a purpose to hook you into watching the entire episode.
Which should make for a more interesting addition in MacGyver.

Yeah the "Funeral in Berlin" (JetSki) one was linked to the main episode, but I can't think how any others were connected.
How about the Season 1 episode "Flame's End"? It kinda started with a sort of opening gambit, because the story started before the opening theme. But it doesn't really show MacGyver doing a MacGyverism, it just showed that a girl Mac knew was in trouble and called for Mac's help.

That's just the episode starting before the credits. It's called a cold opening.

It was the other way around on MacGyver though. The intention was to have a separate "mini episode" to hook the viewer in prior to the credits rolling and because of that they needed to use a second team. But they dropped them because it was impacting the main episode production.
The time RDA spent working on the gambit was time he wasn't able to spend on the main episode. It also meant they had to pay for 2 crews instead of one.
I would think these drawbacks would probably also stop gambits from being used in this new series.
I was pleasanty surprised when they brought back the opening gambit in Legend of The Holy Rose. I kind of hoped it was going to be a recurring trend for season 5, but I think that's the last time they ever did it.
I have just spotted someone on the website Digital Spy, have created a link for their fans to view and watch the Star Wars Rouge One panel discussion, happening later today.
Any chance something similar could be done - between now and Thursday, to create a link here - to allow people view the CBS panel discussion next Thursday from 12-3pm at Comic Con, San Diego?
I and I'm sure others would be very grateful, if this was possible?

It was weird how at times it felt like they wanted to get back to the old school danger and intrigue of the early seasons and then we're suddenly snapped back to Challenger Club work and environmental studies.

I'm hiking tomorrow all day... so I don't think I will be back on time (not sure about the timezone differences anyway); and since I'm staying at my Dad's place I won't have a Chance to record any Videos on his Computer.
But if they'll stream them officially, we will find them somehow - either on YouTube, on Facebook or via CBS. Also, in my experience with the Twilight Fandom, there was always someone who filmed the Panels (illegally) with their Smartphones... so I'm hoping for some young Lucas Till fans attending just in case ;-)
