All we know for 110% certainty based on the news and rumors is Angus MacGyver will be back probably maybe hopefully... (A franchise that should be able to stand toe to toe with Bond Bourne and Hunt/Mission Impossible seems to have a hard time getting started) in a new show but what other character are also coming back. At present even the brief Synopsis we got in October (based on wan's views my guess is the synopsis is 110% true and this will be a sort of MacGyver begins) didn't mention Jack Dalton Penny Parker or even Peter Thornton. So it seems like an obvious question who else do you want how big a role should they play?

Remember this is a reboot so in a weird way until we know further info this could be a chance to "fix the mistakes" of the past. for example if you hated Nikki Carpenter she doesn't have to be in the reboot. or if you wanted Penny Parker to play a more pivotal role she can.

For me I am on the fence With Thornton... I feel he should be in the show definitely but I don't know if I want him just yet...Just because much like Bond it would be interesting to see Mac take orders from someone different who isn't as warm as Peter Thornton? One of the few things that intrigued me about MacGyver (2003) was the General who had understood MacGyver was a huge talent but was put off by his immaturity and let him know it. of course I know it wouldn't be Cannon (though watch the first two seasons and really tell me the producers had a clear idea of MacGyver's history and backstory... they didn't and it's clear they were winging it throughout most of the first two seasons at least to me..)it might be interesting dynamic for the character.

Anyways because I love fan casting here is my list for certain important characters

The General (I don't have a name for him yet but I would put him as the original boss of MacGyver to be replaced by Thornton around the second season) Wesley Snipes... After seeing the finale of the Player I think Snipes in the new MacGyver would be perfect however I don't think I want to change the Character of Thornton that much nor do I want the Colton's to have a huge increase in show time (though Snipes could easily play Jesse Colton in his sleep) no I think having him as an M like figure to Mac (and maybe Thornton Didn't Pete Get promoted half way through the first season to mac's boss I vaguely recall something like that from the same episode mac fixes the breaks on a moving car) for the first season.

Peter Thorton Ricky Jay: Michael Chiklas is stuck in gotham sadly (unless they kill his character off in which case get Chikless) Ricky Jay is smooth intriguing and has a warm personality and it shows in a lot of his characters I think he could become a good father figure for our new MacGyver and do a decent job.

Penny Parker: Hilary Duff: Duff can play the bubbly fun personality In her sleep so I say for a few episodes why not. I would change 1 key element about their relationship in the original show it was hinted they slept together I would have it be confirmed in the new one because who doesn't love watching a makeout scene...

Jack Dalton: Paul Dano Yes I know he does a lot of film but honestly I can't picture a better actor for Jack Dalton he was able to be whimsical and charming as Brian Wilson in the most underrated film of 2015 (love and mercy) I think he could pull off the role nicely and give a sense of fun and whimsy Bruce brought to the original character without trying to basically be Bruce McGill

Nikki Carpenter: Charity Wakefield two things I am changing about the character 1 she is British now and 2 she is a friend/rival of mac's from the beginning outside of that the character could basically remain the same and be basically moneypennyish for our new mac.

Seeing as the new series could be a prequel which becomes the present, all characters are pretty much in. Thornton is a pivotal character to Mac so it's a no brainer that he'll be in it.

Since Mac has known Jack for a long time, I'm sure he'll also be in it.

Should it really, though? I've always gotten the sense that MacGyver was much more of a niche thing than James Bond, Mission: Impossible or the Bourne movies.

Not sure who I'd want back, but if they are doing a more prequel/origin story thing, Jack Dalton seems like the most necessary member of the cast, if they're sticking to the old version of the characters at least. They've been best buddies since childhood and IIRC they went to college together.

I think it fits in the same genre as Mission Impossible and the others with a touch of Bond. I would like to see all of the pillars of the show back in the new one, especially Nikki, as there were a ton of possibilities with that character to expand upon. Is it finding the characters that is making this so difficult to get moving or is it funding? As much as I love the old Mac, the idea is growing on me to see something new. I just hope it carries all of the good qualities from the old show and builds upon them....an adult show that parents won't be afraid to let the children watch. Here's a spin: how about Nikki rising thru the ranks to become the M of Phoenix....imagine Mac having her as a boss!!

We are comparing it to the original series. Who knows where it will lead in the new one? It could be more serious. More funnier. We will see.

hoping more serious like I said I want MacGyver 2016 to basically be like Casino Royale. Mac is still mac but it's a MacGyver in a meaner and darker world.

I guess Pete and Jack are an essential part of MacGyver's life. I couldn't care less about Penny really.

Jack has to be in. I also want to see more DXS and less Phoenix. Watching Mac as a more CIA style troubleshooter when it is obviously not his style could be very interesting. Closer to 1st season

Actually every season had Mac as a Spy/adventurer episodes and they are my favorites of each season with the character decriptions being released 2 weeks ago we still don't know 2 things

Who Mac's Boss/Pete thorton type character will be (Lincoln while a friend of macs has nothing to do with the organization it's his SISTER that runs it who as of now isn't named at all)

Nor do we know what organization he joins (Just that it's involved in making sure conspiracy theories don't become reality and that they are against a terrorist organization called the Mazari I believe I am sure I am mis spelling it.)
