Production for Season 4 should start next month.
So far we don't know much what's going on, but all news for pre-production, the filming process itself and post-production will be posted in here.
Be aware that there are spoilery photos and casting calls posted in this thread, but I will add an additional spoiler warning if necessary.
I'd like to keep this first post as a schedule overview that gets updated regularly, so you can come back every now and then to check quickly what's coming up next.

Next month? Geez
I can see why "some" people don't like TV, if they wanted to shoot movies they'd never have the chance.
Well, I'm assuming filming starts in July again (which is also pretty soon indeed, but mainly due to us getting the renewal news so late).
But the production office will probably open in June like last year. And I guess the writers are already busy writing the first scripts of the season, plus the location scouts scouting (some locations probably need reservations weeks or even months beforehand; and they can't scout all locations before the scripts are finalized). There's costuming to prepare and the stage sets to be dusted off and redressed if necessary... not to mention making lists of what Guest Stars and Extras they'll need and what Casting Calls to send out (which also can't be done without the scripts ready)... not to forget to plan the order of the episodes so they can check if the recurring Guest-Stars (e.g. David Dastmalchian) are available for filming or not.
Lenkov has been scouting locations a few weeks ago for all of his shows so I'm assuming preparation has already started in the other departements as well.

Bad news from the Upfronts: The Reboot was shoved to mid-season and won't air in the Fall. Its time-slot will be taken over by "Hawaii Five-0"; "Magnum PI" taking over the old timeslot of H50: https://tvline.com/2019/05/15/cbs-fall-line...-young-sheldon/
There's no info yet if the loss of the "Fall Show Status" has an impact on the number of episodes ordered or on the filming schedule.

I think it'd almost have to be a 13-episode season with that late of a start...which begs the question, don't you need 88 (which a full season would get them) for syndication?
I was thinking it was the Georgia's stance on abortion, which not to get political if the mods don't like that (I'm not sure), but I would completely understand. As I hear production teams are looking for set and locale changes as they are against the state's disposition.
But then I saw this [see attachment]
If it's not that, then I'm kinda worried, they usually do the half season thing just before they can a show (see Elementary)

Correct. Which is really the point that makes this news ominous....
Why would CBS miss the chance to get arguably their most famous show name into syndication?
This is feeling a lot like Scorpion which made it to season 4 and then got dumped with no syndication deals.

CBS sure wants to try to get it to syndication; why else would they have renewed it otherwise? A 22-episode-order to reach the required 88 episodes this season would have been the logical thing to do. After all, you never know if they have still room on the schedule next year or if one of the actors decides to quit.
But you're right, with the Reboot being benched, a full season order is a bit of a gamble. It's possible a rookie show does so bad it gets pulled after a few episodes. Then the Reboot could step in to fill the slot; starting already in October or November and air all episodes into June or July. But that doesn't happen very often, and they usually just do reruns of other shows in such cases. If it all works out as planned, they would sit on like 9 or 10 more episodes with no slot. Of course, 22 episodes doesn't mean they have to air them all this season. They could air half of it now and air the rest next season; but I don't think I've ever heard about this being an option.
I'm also puzzled about the filming schedule since I don't know if the episode number and production dates are part of the contract. But when the actors signed on for a new season, they had planned with filming from July to March. They probably already cleared the schedule for this and might have dropped other projects.
The stage location is available, so they still could start filming in July. Problem is, what if they only get half a season ordered and later decide to film some more? The actors might already be busy doing other stuff... not willing to wait on CBS to decide the fate of the show too soon.
I'm a bit worried this season will be a bit of another mess cast-wise... and the show even loose another one of the main cast

Well, at least someone is giving the fans some answers. Bit of a disappointment, but that way we don't have to speculate for another two months about the season order...
(to be clear: it's absolutely believable that a tweet doesn't go through. but the fact that he didn't respond to ANY of dozens of tweets adressed at him in the last 2 days makes it a bit suspicious that it should have been this tweet that didn't work out)

As a fan of Community, I remember how jerked around that show got just 22 episodes from syndication.
It eventually got two more seasons of 13 on NBC and then a miraculous sixth season on Yahoo Screen (which put YS out of business no less), but it also had a way more rabid and established fan base than the re-boot does.
What may be more of concern is that CBS may just be writing this off as a loss on syndication, figuring it wouldn't sell anywhere near as good as the original anyway. But still, then why renew it? Maybe they figure it's at least an established name and they can have it in the can for two years as a mid-season replacement to get to syndication.
Wherever it ends up, it's not likely to do well ratings-wise as it benefited greatly as a lead in for H50 and BB.

It sure will drop in ratings anyway, no matter what timeslot it ends up in.
Sadly, midseason shows never make it back to the Fall schedule. I doubt CBS will change that "tradition". If it can keep up with about 4-5 million viewers (I doubt 5-6 is even an option), it might score an additional episode order. So maybe 15 or even 18 episodes. Then they could renew it for another half-season to reach syndnication.
But I'd bet it never makes it back for Fall. Even if Magnum crashes and burn on Fridays, they'll probably just put another show to Fridays next Fall season. The best hope for the Reboot is probably Fridays midseason. Midseason already will result in dropping ratings, but Saturday or Sundays or even worse - a 10pm slot - will probably kill it before even getting to syndication.

This may indicate that they intend to still film a full season so maybe they intent to run the season into summer to get the magic 88 episodes.
Maybe. But also to fulfill their contracts
When the cast signed for another season, they didn't know they would get shoved to midseason. It's possible they also already have contracted directors or main/recurring guest-stars (e.g. David and Tate) for the first few episodes...
I guess it's safer to start filming now. In case they get additional episodes ordered, they just keep going. If they don't, they finish early and have more time for post-production than usual. They would also have enough time to finish BtS stuff for the DVD in the same swoop. Or they could opt for a bigger Christmas break. It's possible that Lucas asks for a few days off for promo for his movie...

Blacklist was a midseason show and is now scheduled for fall. That's NBC tho.(and fyi they did 22 ep.) and Peter is disingenuous to tweet an article from Cartermatt. He's no studio insider. Peter throws the fans a bone and thinks we don't get it. I have no delusions about his preferences, and I don't for 1 minute believe his tweet didn't post. He probably didn't expect the backlash and he had to respond. I have crossed off CBS Friday from my to-watch list.
Um... no Peter.. if you were cancelled you'd be cancelled... The show was unceremoniously dropped from the schedule to make way for Magnum... which is pretty much the definition of being shoved aside.

I must be the only one that never seen any of those other Lenkov shows. Not even one episode in it's entirety
I started watching Season 1 of H50 while they're were filming the first Season of MacGyver. I wanted to get a feel of Lenkov. I was actually surprised how much I liked the Pilot and the first Season. When the Reboot started airing, I also watched the current Season of H50 (Season 7). And I noticed a LOT of similarities between H50 and Original MacGyver.
I've watched a few episodes in between and feel that the Show lost a bit of its Charme, though. Also, after watching every episoded of rebooted MacGyver, I'm a bit miffed about how similar the first few Seasons of both H50 and Mac actually are. Generally, I pretty much lost interest in the newer H50 Seasons. The plot Twists are all predictable a mile away for me and even though I haven't watched regularly in between Seasons 2 and 6, I feel like the stories are getting rehashed.
I've also seen the first Season of Magnum, but it feels just the same to me...

Maybe getting Matalas as co-showrunner will be a good thing. A different vision and energy. Maybe he'll be more of a presence.
I'm assuming they brought another co-showrunner in not just to prevent Lenkov from getting burned out, but also to give the show a bit of a retooling and a different direction.
To me, Season 3 already felt a bit different, and I'm not sure I liked it. But whatever they do, I hope they finally tie up some of the loose ends. I'm still annoyed how all these threads in Season 2 didn't lead anywhere and/or never got answered. I accepted that we'll never the Cairo story, what exactly happened between Matty and Jack and why Desi wants to pay back Jack by "babysitting" Team Phoenix, but they could at least have the curtesy to finish the Walsh storyarc. Also, I'm still a bit stumped about all the clues to find MacDaddy (e.g. the watch, the world war prisoner). Why did they set this up when it never led anyhwere?

They exchanged the Facebook header. Nothing dramatic, just exchanging the "Fridays 8/7c" sign with the one for CBS All Access.
It will be probably months until we get new posters and headers. Though I wonder if they might actually do another photoshoot. Now that they have another Co-Showrunner and timeslot, they might want do change the style of the promo as well...

We did see Jack with Matty when he was wearing chaps. The Walsh arc needs a conclusion and I agree that the clues were never explained. The prisoner picture made no sense, and Mac even found the name. So what's the connection? That one bothers me the most.

I'm assuming they will go in another direction with the new showrunner and he even might have more of a say than O'Neill had.
The way CBS is pushing for Magnum to succeed, they might have put some pressure on Lenkov and he has to deliver better ratings; him having to take a step down on MacGyver.
They put a lot of money into Magnum, and I'm not sure if it's CBS or if the other network involved is behind that. They even did that Superbowl Pizza Hut commercial with the Magnum cast; that can't have been cheap. Also that great special timeslot after a big sports event that didn't elevate the ratings at all (the episode had amazing ratings, but the ratings dropped even lower afterwards then they had done before; so they didn't gain any new viewers).
CBS sure has a lot more patience with Magnum than with other shows, and I think it's a bit weird...

Agreed. and they may have a Friday problem. The Blacklist finale had a better rating than the H50 finale. Plus you have the WWE and American Housewife. H50 actually has competition. Of course Magnum has just news hours but we'll see. Someone in a leadership role loves that show.

Several people brought up "The Blacklist", but I don't think this is a fair comparison.
As you said, it's on a different network. Also, it's in Season 7; so already running on a syndication deal. They don't have to deliver the same amount of ratings CBS is expecting... and the financing might be different. It has 2 big and well-known studios attached (Davis Entertainment, Universal Television, Sony Pictures Television)
