Cool! Nice to know when to look for the MacGyver Mythbusters special. Can't wait! (And I seriously hope this one comes to DVD- as some other episodes already have)
In fact, come to think of it- that would be a perfect excuse and opportunity to include some bonus MacGyver features- like a feature on the science of the MacGyverisms, a DVD extra I've been wanting to see since the show first started being released on DVD. Paramount ought to partner up with Mythbusters and release the Mythbusters MacGyver special on DVD along with other MacGyver bonus features, bloopers, deleted scenes, original ABC promos, etc.- and say, the two TV-movies! That would solve the problem for those who don't want to (or just can't afford to) pay the extra money to buy the complete series set.

I hope they showcase Mac's ingenuity in positive ways. There has been to many headlines about people using MacGyver-isms in bad ways - i.e. criminal or terrorist-type activity.
That which has been established will endure even with time and at a distance.
I can't tell you anything about what happens after the cameras go off, mostly because I'm usually unconscious by then.

Well they're only testing the macgyverismas to see if they would work as shown in the show.
Other specials they have done have always been fairly neutral, I don't think this will be any different

I read somewhere that writers of the show, because of safety concerns, left out several steps in things Mac did (like chemical reactions and principles of physics). Do you think Mythbusters will give a negative slant because of what they left out?

Nah- the writers really only left crucial things when there was the possibility for dangerous results from recreating the MacGyverisms. There's plenty of MacGyverisms that can be pretty safely tried out for the Mythbusters' purposes. I mean, I don't think they're going to try to stop an acid leak with a Hershey's bar.

I think it would be neat if they did test the ability of chocolate to neutralise acid -- they'd do it on a small scale, after all. Especially since the only reason it wouldn't have worked in the pilot was a question of scale rather than function.

Hey Rocky!
Just wanted to take some time to say I really like the new look on your forum. Nice job! Haven't been here for a long time, so when I popped in, everything looked new. Thanks too for posting the schedule for Mythbusters. I really like that show. Guess because it reminds me of Mac. lol I thought I had missed that special but thanks to you I haven't. Glad you found that. I will definitely be recording that show. They always do some incredible things, even things that Mac never did! lol So this should be a great show. I agree about them showing things they did on Mac in a positive way. I think they will just show if they actually worked or not. So it should pretty neat. Wonder if RDA will tune in and watch it too. That seems to be a show that he would like.
Anyway, thanks for posting that. I'll be sure to put that on my calendar!
Sincerely, Nancy

Yes, it seems a lot of people I've talked to (and particularly younger people) mainly remember MacGyver for his mullet. I think some of the younger reporters out there probably weren't born when the show started- or at least didn't really grow up watching it from the start. And because mullets are apparently so out of fashion today, everyone loves to make fun of the mullet that MacGyver had and it becomes the only thing they focus on- rather than the thing he's really known for- making things out of everyday items in a unique fashion to effect rescues and such- for his brain, Swiss Army Knife and duct tape. And in any case, I don't think his mullet was really even grown out terribly long until the later part of the series- in the 5th. Season and from there out to the TV-movies. It seems people forget that mullets were very popular and fashionable in the late '80s and early '90s- so it really shouldn't be that surprising that MacGyver had one- just like Billy Ray Cyrus and John Stamos and lots of other guys. But yeah- I get tired of these mullet comments too. I like mullets just fine- I think they're pretty cool. I mean hey- business up front, party in the back! Rock on!

The writer of that article was trying to be sarcastic and funny, but I didn't ever think that RDA looked bad in a mullet, and I honestly never thought it could be strictly defined as a mullet in the traditional sense. To me, it always looked a little bit more like a "shag" haircut, something my mom told me was popular in the '70s (and has regained some popularity recently). To me, a mullet is that really short buzz cut in the front and long in the back, and to me, that does look ridiculous. But Rick's always had some length to it all around, which made it look decent (of course the man under it helped promote it pretty well, too. ).
Also, I was a little upset that they called the show kitschy. Sure, some of it was corny and unrealistic, but it's a heck of a lot better than most of what is on TV now! They just have no taste. MacGyver rules, hair and all!

Hey, cool -- I didn't realise they were doing the MacGyver episode as a special celebration for their own 100th episode. That's definitely a fine salute to our man!
Let's see --
blow a hole in a wall using sodium metal in water -- Pilot
build an ultralight airplane with raw bamboo, a small engine and a roll of duct tape -- opening sequence for Legend of the Holy Rose
pick a lock -- multiple episodes
develop film with common kitchen liquids -- The Survivors, I think
build a compass -- ???
devise an aerial signal for a rescue helicopter -- Humanity

I bet even those damn reporters who are harping on about it, had one... if they where even born back then.
The author of that article looks as if he hadn't even been born by the time the series went off the air.

Tonight, they did a "MacGyverish" myth involving using your jeans on a cable as a zip line escape--and it didn't work. The jeans had too much friction. However, the jeans were strong enough and able to hold the guys up the way they held Mac up in The Human Factor, so they still are useful for something!

Denim is a very "toothy" fabric -- they'd have had better luck with polyester.
Hey, we've figured out a suitable use for that awful Hawaiian floral shirt from "Deadly Silents" -- and best of all, it would probably ruin the shirt! Win-win!

Greetings Campers,
I'm sure some of you already know this, but Wednesday 2/20 at 9 PM EST on the Discovery Channel, there's going to be an episode of the "Mythbusters" detected to MacGyver. I'm not sure what MacGyverisms they're going to try to prove or disprove, but it should be neat to see.
