Has this been done before? I'm too lazy to search.

I remember this discussion a long time ago.

The "Slow Death" episode (they are on a train...) appears to be loosely..... loosely..... based on an old Sophia Loren movie called Cassandra Crossing. ... I say "loosely" because in Cassandra Crossing, the train is full of passengers who were exposed to some virus, and they are "tricked" into going across a bridge that was known to be not safe, and then the train would go down and virus goes bye bye...... In Slow Death, it appears they took the premise and went a different way with it......

we had an entire list of plots that were "ripped off" from other shows. Now, the only one I remember is Slow Death. Although I seem to have a memory of Legend of the Holy Rose being loosely loosely like an Indiana Jones thing.... (Same with Eye of Osirus....)

Ok, I hope in this new show the plots are fresh and not ripped off from somewhere else.....

In today's world coming up with anything original is near impossible.

As the saying goes, "There's an App for that" Mine goes "There's a story for that" biggrin.gif

But i know what you mean in terms of it looking fresh and being dynamic. It makes it exciting & worth looking forward to on a weekly basis. But in all honesty, when was the last time you sat behind a TV and anticipated the next episode of something? There are those that have their absolute favorites like the Walking Dead or Game of Thrones or Grey's Anatomy. I actually recall how excited i used to get prior to every episode of MacGyver. Never missed a single episode throughout its entire run. From original airing of pilot right through to the end. biggrin.gif It used to be my Walking Dead. laugh.gif

Whatever "The Legend of the Holy Rose" was ripping off, er, I mean paying homage to, it was clearly the same thing that inspired The Da Vinci Code.

Or which The Da Vinci Code was ripping off.

It's a no brainer that Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was a huge hit in 1989 and inspired a bunch of rip offs. This being one.

I think a lot of episodes were based on something. Especially the real early ones seemed to be based on old movies. Later episodes seemed to be more original or based around real life events. The wall coming down, Tienamen Square, Ceausescu's death...

I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver.

It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.

Trumbo's World from season one is based on a short story called 'Leiningen Versus The Ants'

Episode Jenny's Chance is based onto movie called The Sting (1973) or atleast the end of the episode. In Jenny's Chance the last casino room scene where they cheated the Henderson was exactly identical with scene in The Sting.

And I believe why they used that same idea in MacGyver, was because Dana Elcar was in The Sting and was also part of the cheating plan as in MacGyver.

Two Times Trouble had been done before on Magnum, in the 2-part episode Echoes of the Mind in which Sharon Stone played Diane Dupres (the homely twin) who sometimes turned into her glamorous dead twin Dierdre. The ending of Echoes was much darker than TTT though.
