Mac and Jack hit the road for a weekend of relaxation in Las Vegas, but their mini-vacation is cut short when someone from their past abducts them and locks them in a concrete room. Meanwhile Matty tasks Riley, Bozer and Leanna with stealing a diamond encoded with terrorist intel from a princess in Milan.

TBH, I was kinda bored. I did find the climax to be emotional, but since I know Jack is supposed to be in episode 2x14, I wasn't worried. Otherwise I probably would've shed some tears thinking this was how they chose to write him off

Will have to re-watch the episode later, so just a few notes on the B- and C-storylines first...
So how did Bozer pull off getting those dresses? I mean, wouldn't the princess and her fashionista friends have noticed if he just went and brought some Armani and Versace?
Otherwise, I have to say that was one of the newer B-storylines I actually enjoyed and I think Justin could pull off playing a gay fashion designer undercover for an A storyline very well.
Also curious if Bozer will really move in with Leanna or not; especially with Reign still not being a regular. If the writers were surprised about George leaving so soon, they kinda wrote themselves into a corner with Bozer moving out and they might have been forced to "undo" that. Like if they break up, I guess Bozer would move back in with Mac - unless they make her a regular now that George is gone soon. But if I remember correctly, Reign has only been on set for Episode 3x14 lately.
Heh... Both Jack and Leanna having the same last appearance now that would be a plot twist .
I just hope they don't get rid of the location for Mac's house because it's a cool set. But on the other hand, they don't really use it that often anymore. In my opinion, they could have just Riley move in with him. Let her dad have her appartement

I think the episode was awesome. Nice Saw references with ex. producer Wan being its creator I love how the episode highlights Mac's genius and creativity. and of course the friendship and bond Manniversary! what a great idea You know only something incredibly important and necessary will take Jack away from Mac. Poor Mac. If Bozer moves out he'll be all alone.
Still not a fan of B stories. Mac and Jack's situation was dire while the other was lighter and not tense at all. I don't like the back and forth. and I still find Leanna dull and useless.

I think they needed the lighter B-Story because the A-Story was so dark and dreary - and not just storywise, but also in color.
Personally, I would have loved to have an episode with the A-Story only because the acting by George and Lucas and their chemistry is so good, they can hold themselves without too much interesting going on around them. Reminds me a bit of the Stargate-SG-1 Episode "Abyss" - the best scenes are Jack (RDA) and Daniel (Michael Shanks) alone in an empty room and the dialogue and acting is enough to draw you in.
Also, with the flashbacks, they already had some sort of back and forth with lighter colors. It would have worked but it's not really suitable for an 8pm show that introduced itself as popcorn-fluff for families in the beginning. And I guess they have to use the other regulars as well since they are probably paid per episode. Though Leanna and Matty didn't really have much to do; just shows that theoretically, Riley and Bozer alone on the B-mission would have been enough.
For once, I was really glad that Matty didn't harp for them to hurry faster like they do in other episodes. That always annoys me. They were wise enough to take Matty out after the War Room scene. She will probably have a bigger role in either 3x12 or at least in 3x13.

This is the episode with the highest audience this season so far. I'm assuming even though it will be downgraded a bit in the final ratings, it will stay the second- or third-best.

Am i the only one who think it ended with a cliffhanger
I think several episodes in S3 end a bit "open-ended". We don't really get to see how they make it back; they don't book-end the episodes anymore with e.g. the team sitting around Mac's fireplace or visiting in the hospital.
But no, I don't think it was supposed to be a cliffhanger. The episode could have easily been a two-parter; the cliffhanger would have been earlier though.

I really liked the character Griggs in this episode. He would be a great good guy turned villain and used as such in future episodes. Since they aren't making Murdoc a character whose whereabouts and status is unknown (we always thinks he dies in the end) in this reboot, why not make Griggs that kind of character who becomes MacGyver's arch nemesis. In the old Macgyver, Murdoc always used his brains and set up traps and situations that Macgyver had to think hard about just to survive. Murdoc doesn't do that as much in this reboot. But Griggs seems to fit the bill and he has the intelligence, as we have seen, to do in this show what Murdoc did in the old. I think he should be a recurring character and be the "new" Murdoc. This episode reminded me a lot of a Murdoc episode in the old series.

Hm... I kinda would like to have Harper take on that role. The female villain in the Halloween Episode in Season 2.
Sadly, the reboot never really brings back old villains besides rebooted Murdoc..

Really good A-storyline that needed to be its own contained episode. The B-storyline was entertaining but maybe should have been expanded as a full team mission for a lighter episode? The tonal changes were jarring going from the dire emotions of the A-storyline to the Monty Python-level fare of the B. Oh well.
Anyone catch the This is Spinal Tap reference?
Also, maybe I missed it but who were these characters, "Croatian Cop #1" and "Croatian Cop #2?"

not sure where those cops were... but I remember Shani Atias posting some BtS videos/photos when filming outside... maybe a scene that landed on the cutting room floor?

I'm watching the episode now, and the first thing that comes to mind is that it's kind of a remake of the "Partners" episode from the original series-- Mac and Jack celebrating their 7 year anniversary, just as Mac and Pete were having their 7 year anniversary, and in both cases, they get trapped by the person they were trying to capture 7 years ago.

But they were in Milan, Indonesia and the U.S. only in this one, right?
Perhaps these guys were actually in the episode that took place partially in Croatia (3.10)?

*plot twist forthcoming*
Slight plot twist, yes, but still very reminiscent of "Partners." In both episodes, Mac and Pete/Jack assumed the person who captured them had been killed 7 years ago, but then he resurfaces with burns on his face (Murdoc's burns were more dramatic, but still....)
Overall, this episode was a mixed bag for me. The Mac/Jack story was good, but the side story about the necklace just felt like unnecessary filler.

I agree with everyone that the B fashion story line did not mix into the flow of the episode. Mac and Jack could have carried the episode on their own.

Looks like I am not the only one who thinks the secondary story line was unnecessary. I personally couldn't have cared less about the diamond story and wish this was like an original MacGyver episode and just concentrated on Mac's story.
Bozer is getting on my nerves. I like Justin Hires, but that character just does not fit. He shouldn't be anywhere near a spy organization lol.
EDIT: Also, I know it fit in with the episode, but seeing MacGyver firing a gun doesn't sit right.
