MacGyver Online Forums > Macs Loft > Chicken soup for the soul

MacGyver always seemed to have a pretty positive outlook on life, even when the odds seems to be stacked against him. In reality it can be a little harder to stay positive as the trials and tribulations of life can weigh heavily on us sometimes.

This thread is for posting positive messages to inspire and lift us to a more positive plane, in much the way MacGyver seemed to do with people he met.

Yep. Something it doesn't say though is that they all take a long time to get and only moments to lose.

This is a little something I really felt like sharing. It's in Dutch so I'll translate it. There's a very major truth to it. Here goes:

You don't look for a real friend but you'll meet him/her in life. It's a gift of life, so cherish this gift. A hug is nice, a hug feels good. A hug because it can and not because it should. A hug gives your warmth from two arms around you. Just a moment with two and not alone. A hug doesn't cost you anything except a minute from your time. But it gives you so much strength to carry on.

Another one.

Always be yourself.
Always be happy.
Feel free.
Don't think too hard.
Enjoy every day.
Be love.
Show respect.
Don't feel alone.
Be happy.
Be yourself.

I have a Flemish one so I'll translate.

Never regret that you ever met anyone because the good peoples that live inside of you give you happiness, the not so good peoples give you experience, the bad peoples give you lessons and the best peoples give you fond memories.

Some more things to think about.

1. Just because the past didn't turn out like you wanted it to, doesn't mean you future can't be better than you ever imagined.

2. The closer you get to excellence in your life, the more friends you'll lose. People love you when you're average because it makes them comfortable. But when you pursue greatness it makes them uncomfortable. Be prepared to lose some people on your journey.

3. Never say: there is still time. Never say: maybe next time. Because there is still something that says: It's too late.

4. I laughed yesterday, I laugh today and I will laugh tomorrow. It's very simple, because life is too short to eat yourself over things that just aren't worth it.

5. Sometimes you gotta make a tough decision. But once you made it, it can be the best decision you ever made.

6. Love is passion, obsession, someone you can't live without. I say, fall head over heels. Find someone you can love like crazy and who will love you the same way back. How do you find him? Well, you forget your head, and you listen to your heart. And I'm not hearing any heart. Cause the truth is, honey, there's no sense living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love, well, you haven't lived a life at all. But you have to try, cause if you haven't tried, you haven't lived. - William Parrish in Meet Joe Black.

Life is short. Grudges are waste of your happiness. Laugh when you can, apologize when you should and let go of things you can't change. Love deeply and forgive quickly. Take chances. Give everything and have no regrets. Life is too short to be unhappy.

I rather look back at my life and say 'I can't believe, I did that' instead of saying 'I wish I did that'.

I like these:

It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His
compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him. The Lord
is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him.
-Lamentations 3:22-25

But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still
sinners, Christ died for us.
-Romans 5:8

Here's another:

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked advance against me
to devour me,
it is my enemies and my foes
who will stumble and fall.
Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
even then I will be confident.
Psalm 27:1-3 biggrin.gif

Sometimes the little things count.

Earlier this week a project delivered in time saved a mind boggling amount of cash for a client, but in terms of pure personal satisfaction solving the puzzle of how to get at and replace the sidelight bulb on my car was this week's crowning moment!!

I've never changed the rings on a jeep like MacsJeep was planning on doing, but when you are a single mum being master of your own car is not only satisfying, but essential. I used my Leatherman multi-tool pliers!!

Posted by: Barry Rowland 22 October 2015 - 07:13 AM
Way to go Maclover! My Leatherman has saved the day a few times. I have a book, How to keep your Volkswagen Alive, written by John Muir, which states that doing it yourself is the first step to true freedom. I'd sure agree with that, and I think Mac would too! thumbsup.gif

Todays thought is......If it's not working and it's no good broke then what have you got to lose by trying to fix it?

Today's successes - three dead torches, two took a screwdriver and new batteries - easy, the mini-Maglite resisted new batteries - the old ones weren't dead according to my multi-meter, but it was still worth trying a new set, it also resisted a new bulb, in the finish I prised it into as many bits as I could get it into then tweaked all the contacts up and rebuilt it and miraculously it worked.

Tomorrow's task is shopping for new bulbs for that rotten car of mine - out last night and I lost the headlight of the side I fixed the sidelight on the other day - I knew I should have changed it at the same time - it probably objected to the 'jiggling' of the light cluster when I did the sidelight. I came home on the front fogs and one dipped beam instead. The car is very dead-set on blowing headlights, I've done about 8 in five years - the garage says there is nothing they can find wrong and so I just carry on replacing the bulbs - the trouble is I haven't gotten round to replacing the spare headlight from the last one to blow, so I am off shopping tomorrow morning. I think I will buy 4 this time - and replace the spare sidelight one too. I've got it down to a fine art now - I can drop-out the headlight cluster in about 45 seconds, and even do the tricky main bulb install in about 2 minutes now. Mind you the frequency of the job says it's a skill well worth having. LOL

Today's second thought is.....if you live in a house when you can never find the household 'men's' tools when you want to do a job, buy your own and hide them!! Says the woman with a multi-meter, a set of screwdrivers, a huge Halfords pro toolset, electric drill....etc.......you get the idea!!! That way a 10 minute job is......a ten minute job!!

Posted by: Barry Rowland 28 October 2015 - 11:39 AM
Way to go Maclover! Get a good set of tools and hide them...it's amazing how they tend to wander off.

I just read this on Facebook.

'If you want to bring peace somewhere, don't bring any weapons.'

One person comments on it however that if the Allies didn't came with their weapons to fight for our freedom, Europe would be a different place.
