Sadly it won't be Phillip Winchester 9As he has been cast in Chicago law but I saw this article and realized we never talked about any of these actors

http://moviepilot.com/posts/3574688

my guess is Hunter Parish from that list as he has nothing on his upcoming plate.

I'm a romantic....I worry that the new show will be "modernized" and the innocence of the original will be lost. I can see Mac now, living in a high rise, driving some hopped up ride in Gotham, permanently at night.....another Batman kind of deal. I hope I'm wrong. I really can't think of anyone who could top the original cast.

I'm with you. Some things should never be "re-booted" when they were done perfect the first time around. Perfect show, perfect characterizations, perfect cast. It's like Gone With the Wind...leave it alone. Make a new series about a new character with similar points of view if you like... but do not remake THE MacGyver. sad.gif

you mean shows like Intelligence or The player.

the issue is we have had quite a few almost Mac's and now CBS is doing the real thing. and you never know the new show could be as brilliant as the original.

My loyalty is to the original...and it was truly "original" back when it was created. According to RDA he's never even been contacted regarding the new series. He could at least be the "Pete" type role...but as the older Mac... so no stress to his back and knees... just sayin'...

The X-Files is a great example... come back 15 yrs later... same cast... not a "re-boot" but rather a re-start...shows more respect for the original show...and its fans.

Good point. Coincidently, the X-Files has had very impressive audience numbers. No brainer that it will return for a season 11.

in all honesty I don't know if RDA would come back for a full series I wouldn't be opposed to it but for me I am still willing to give the reboot a shot as well why not The A-team was good Casino Royale was good etc.

as for me

Hunter Parrish as the new MacGyver?
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1446060/?ref_=nv_sr_1

he looks a lot like RDA and he is 28 so he could maybe be able to handle it.

My feeling is if the rumors are true and MacGyver is filming around the last week of march (so a week and 3 days from now) we should get our new MacGyver soon right?

I need to be clear replacing RDA is not really my first choice and I am going through something similar over in Bond I don't want Craig to leave I want Craig to be on for 2 more films but we don't always get what we want.

That works for me.

He has a MacGyverish look to him.

Unfortunately, a generic look-a-like isn't going to win all of us over. There's a reason why RDA was perfect for the role... and it wasn't his looks.

I haven't written it off yet... the comic proved that somebody is on the ball.

I wasn't meaning he looks like RDA, I was meaning he looks like a MacGyver; Intelligent, casual, rough around the edges maybe, doesn't car to much about what others think of him.

Looks a bit like the comic book MacGyver actually.

My apologies, that was meant to be more of a generic comment. I was trying to post in here all day yesterday and kept getting side tracked. lol

One of my concerns is that they'll cast a generic look-a-like with the idea that it will appease fans. I've seen this happen a lot in movie adaptions for video games. It never really works...

I agree with Kiwi - the new series would have been best placed having the series about MacGyver's son. It would have been more welcoming or accepting, to the die hard fans of the original series who resist change. But CBS has chosen to restart the character. Similar to when Daniel Craig rebooted the James Bond franchise, and reinvigorate the Bond brand.

Had they not gone with the 20 something option. For me the perfect replacement for MacGyver would have been
Michael C Hall (Dexter). I think he'd have played a great MacGyver.
