I feel a lot like I did with Cage. The last thing this show needs is more people to take up screen time. They already have 5 people fighting for time. I really hope both of these characters are in limited episodes this season.

I get that Oversight is a huge part of Macs life and that story could be huge, but I'm just not really a fan. Also, Leanna just doesn't add much to the show for me personally.

What do you guys think?

Well Reigh Edwards has been down in New Zealand filming a pilot for a new show so she may not be in MacGyver much, if any, longer.

I like Leanna. I didn't really care for her introduction episodes; but I thought she was fun for the storyline of 2x16. Weirdly, I don't really see her having much chemistry with Justin Hires. I kinda felt she had better chemistry with Lucas and her getting married, though tongue.gif

So far, she's only showing up in Episodes 3x01 to 3x03. They're already filming 3x08 while she's still in NZ filming another pilot. So I'm not sure she'll be back anytime soon - if she comes back at all. Not sure yet how they would explain her absence if she's intended to come back.

Also, Oversight is listed only for 3x01 and 3x05 (plus maybe 3x06) at the moment.

So both characters are recurring, which works fine for me. But of course, I wouldn't mind them giving Mac/Jack plus Riley more screentime with less Bozer and less Matty. I like the actors but I don't really care for their characters that much.

I am not a fan of Leanna mainly because I want the focus to be Mac and Jack. Other characters should not get a lot of air time. So please no more Elwood and not a lot of Billy either.

[QUOTE=Roaddawg71,27 September 2018 - 11:13 PM] But of course, I wouldn't mind them giving Mac/Jack plus Riley more screentime with less Bozer and less Matty. I like the actors but I don't really care for their characters that much.

I feel the same way about Bozer and Matty.

One thing I still don't understand about this reboot is why every character is included in every episode. There are episodes when some characters (usually Bozer) simply are not needed, but it seems as if the writers are told that they MUST include everyone, regardless of whether they're needed or not. It's an odd thing. The original series never did that. There were plenty of episodes without Dana Elcar, despite him being a main cast member from Season 2 onward. And to look at more recent examples, shows like The Walking Dead and Game Of Thrones don't cram every character into every episode (if they did, each character would get about 5 seconds of screen time per episode.)

As for Leanna, I really don't think she'll be too prominent throughout the season. At least I hope not. Nothing against her, but the show is juggling too many characters as is.

I like Bozer in that comic relief role, but I find it ridiculous he went from cooking burgers to being on the Phoenix team. He just doesn't fit.

I can't see how Jack Dalton's bull-in-a-china shop approach is helpful to covert operations when the objective is to be as unobtrusive as possible. Although it does come in handy in some situations.

Oh well, Riley is still off-the-charts gorgeous so I guess there's a balance to everything. tongue.gif

As a big fan of the original series I can certainly live with some tweaks to the character.

But I will say the reboot does suffer from character overload. Outside of Jack (whom I enjoy, George Eads excels in this type of role), nobody else really needs to be there all the time. And even occasionally how about Mac doing something on his own?

As someone mentioned above, Dana Elcar wasn't in every episode. I wish they'd be a little more like that here. I'm fine with Bozer working for the PF using his prosthetic talents, but it's patently absurd that he's a field operative.

I like Tristin Mays and her character Riley is very intriguing, but perhaps above all she represents the biggest problem with this show...too many deus ex machinas. How many times has Riley (or someone else, for that matter) really been the one to save the day, and not the titular character? I get we're in modern times and technology is prevalent now...but things are almost made too convenient by Riley tapping a way at a keyboard for a few seconds.

Still, I enjoy the show as it is, it has a dopey charm for me and sometimes I just want my TV to be basic...but I really would like to see some of the characters relegated to a recurring role and let Lucas Till show what he can do with the role because I believe he can be quite good at being MacGyver.

Really hoping for a Mac/Murdoc-centric episode where it's just Till and Dastmalchian getting the screen time. That could be phenomenal.

I think most of us agree on this, but sadly, this show is CBS standard procedural and they don't want the writers and everyone involved producing and running the show to change their formula.

All we can hope for is some strong 2-characters-scenes, and I certainly wouldn't mind that to be Lucas Till and David Dastmalchian. Personally, I think that Lucas is best in doing "small" scenes. He has the skills to show subtle emotions if there's enough "room" and time to watch him act. I don't think the show suffers if there's slower pacing sicne the actors are good enough to handle these as well. It's a bit of a pity that the fast pacing and the sometimes wonky dialogue doesn't let them shine enough.

George Eads has great chemistry with Lucas, and I think the two elevate each other in one-on-one-scenes - but George delivers anyway; no matter what Reboot actor he's paired with. I'm not so fond of Matty, but I think the scene between Meredith and George in 2x22 in the interrogation room was one of their best.

I would love to see some episodes where Mac (or Mac and Jack) just find a situation where the day needs saving. Just like in the original.

Agree completely. They have Jack helping Billy with a bounty I think ep.3. Ugh. Stick to one main plot and focus on Mac or Mac/Jack.

I believe they did that in Pliers, so to speak
