its a cool premise, but Im not sure its going to be developed in the most interesting way. Im also afraid its too expensive and unless it gets great ratings its going to be cancelled. Actors and writing seemed a bit subpar in the first episode for such a grand scale production. Falling skies all over again, me thinks, but I hope it improves because I like the setting and general idea

its the same in spanish and most latin derived languages. Learning latin, besides being great for pedantry exercises, gives you a blueprint to learn almost any romanic language, like french, italian, portuguese, spanish, romanian, and you can read the classics in their original version. I was very good at school, obviously Ive forgotten a lot, but even then my latin teacher struggled to learn entire classic texts in latin without the dictionary, so its not that easy, as some people think. Im right now refreshing my knowledge with the rosetta stone program, very useful

Watched it and it's so much like Avatar.

Haven't seen it yet, it will air here in the next week or so. I plan to watch the first episode to see if I like it. It sounds interesting, so fingers crossed I like it.

Terra Nova is filmed down here in Oz...

Stargate was filmed over in the States, I think (or maybe some parts were made in Canada, as well?).

Steven Spielberg is the Executive Producer, (which these days could mean that he rarely sets foot on the sets..); but it's also always possible that they have hired some of the creative people from Stargate to help out..

Check out the international accents - as the show has Aussie, Kiwi, Canadian, English and Irish, as well as American actors in the cast..

StarGate was filmed in Vancouver at the Bridge Studios (same place MacGyver was filmed).

terra nova's budget must be really low otherwise I dont get the crappy scifi-channel CGIs. Actors not very convincing either, characters less than likeable, plot a bit meandering, I dont think Ill keep watching it.

That rainforest on Terra Nova looks typical of that found in the Northern Rivers/Far North Coast of NSW and South East Queensland. Fox has studio facilities down in Sydney, while there is a Warner Bros. 'Movieworld' in the Gold Coast hinterland in Queensland, just over the border..

I agree that there is a bit of room to both lift the show's production values, and to develop the characters a bit more...

After all, Australia already does "have the runs on the board" when it come to producing some decent Sci-Fi and fantasy shows -

The Mad Max movies
The Matrix trilogy
Pitch Black
Dark City
and the 'Farscape' TV series

- among others, were all filmed down here; along with the first 3 parts of the 'Star Wars' series (the second trilogy..), and the outdoor shoots for the last Superman movie..

for me the biggest problem is the subpar writing. I dont get the plots and subplots, quite silly, cheesy and some downright stupid. The acting has surprised me really, very, very poor and what a pool of unlikeable actors/characters.

it had potential but I cant see anyone reviving this. Terra nova will be extinct probably before january
