Jaws 2 wasn't bad. The others were just hurting the eyes just like Poltergeist II.

Poltergeist, the remake. A whole lot better than the original and I guess it's again thanks to Sam Raimi.

Beneath and The Visit.
Beneath was just a cheap monster movie but they at least tried to take it seriously. 6 kids on a small boat are on their way to celebrate their graduation and are attacked by big and probably mutated fish. The boat is damaged and there is a lot of distrust and they all have their secrets.
The Visit was Shyamalan's return to the horror genre almost two years ago after several major flops. Tyler and Becca are send to their grandparents for a week when their mother goes on a cruise with her new boyfriend. Though something seems a little off with their grandparents or simply downright strange. They have a 09:30 curfew and are not allowed in the cellar and what's with the shed?
When it comes down to M. Night Shyamalan, his career started with such a bang: Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs and after that his career was pretty much done for. The Village bombed. I never even saw Lady In The Water. After Earth and his Avatar: The Last Airbender was such disasters. I never saw those either. The Happening was alright though and Split which I've also seen recently was his best since at least Signs and The Visit perhaps his darkest since the Sixth Sense.
He may not be the director with the best reputation and surely made some box office disasters but I think he should stick to thrillers. If he stays there and keeps trying, I'm sure he'll get there again.

M. Night Shyamalan's career has been a gradual decline since his first movie and Split is his "Comeback" to the acceptable level of standards.
I got around to watching XXX - The Return of Xander Cage.
After the untimely demise of the one of the agency's top men, Xander Cage is once again sought after to help the government retrieve a device called Pandora's Box. A device which can control every military satellite in space. But this time, Cage isn't going in alone. Recruiting some of the biggest daredevils he knows accompany him on this new deadly mission.
The thrills, the extreme tricks and the action is all the same as before. And although i have heard a number of people complain that it isn't as good as the first movie, this is basically identical to the first movie.
There were a number of smart decisions made to execute the story which i was quite happy to see come to light including the witty humor of its characters, surprise appearances and expected ending which I knew would happen. But its all good.
Its a fun action filled popcorn flick. If you liked the first movie, chances are you will enjoy this one too. And no, its not as bad as everyone says it is. Yes, they took WAY too long to make this sequel. But at least he still has it.
I give it 3 & a half stars.

I think Shyamalan has reached the best he could do with Signs. It's my personal favorite and I don't think he can top that.
XXX was indeed good. I went to see that on the perfect moment and now I'm in love with Ruby Rose.
I've seen Kong: Skull Island now. In the same vein as Godzilla (2014). Same producers though. Even though it seems to get the same or even more appreciation from the critics, I think Godzilla was a little better. More depth to the characters and much more mystery around Godzilla himself. But you won't hear me say Kong was bad. But Godzilla and even Peter Jackson's movie was a little better. But right now they're just placing the foundations for the Monsterverse, they intend to create as the next Godzilla film is to be released in 2019 and in 2020 Godzilla will fight it out against Kong along with other monsters from Skull Island. And those monsters will probably get their own movies as well. I'm pretty glad with this to have some counterweight against all those superheroes films. The Monsterverse has my full support.
Devil's Due. Another of those found footage horrorfilms that nobody no longer believes is real. It was a nice campaign trick for the original Blair Witch Project but shaky cams aren't scary anymore. They're holding the camera while they run as something scary happens but you hardly see any of it, how can it be scary than? This movie was about the horrors of settling down and having a family and a very difficult pregnancy. Maybe nice to see one time but further it wasn't that good. You might as well try Rosemary's Baby or something which it seems based on and yet I did not like that one either.

Logan. Just go see it and let the movie speak for itself. One of Jackman's finest. I think I'm finally totally sold for X-Men.
Still lots of releases to come but if they're still showing it after at least Fast 8, I might go see it for a second time.

I've heard they finally got it on how to make a movie out of comics.

Yes. We finally saw Logan.
For those familiar with the old Logan stories published waaaay back in the 90's, will find something familiar here too.
Set in the future (2029 to be exact) Logan tells the continuing story of Wolverine and the ageing and fragile Professor X keeping a low profile on the public eye. But this struggling lifestyle comes to an end when a woman seeking the clawed mutant for help makes him cross paths with a young girl who has special powers. Soon enough it becomes a battle of epic proportions trying to survive what comes his way in order to protect the girl and his ailing friend.
It is pretty clear from the beginning that James Mangold (Director) and the creators wanted something more grittier than we have ever had before and as great as this new sense of realism is, it doesn't all conform to the older stories because they were so tame. There are also some questionable decisions that the character has made which make you wonder just how low profile he was trying to be because he seems to be exposed to a lot of public exposure. That and the doomed choices which make you fully comprehend Logan's life as being cursed, in some way.
That aside, this is indeed a good and moving story. And it definitely shows non-comic readers that these stories are in fact touching when they need to be. I was hopeful to hear a lot of the tracks that were used to market the movie but sadly these were left out. This is not an X-Men movie for kids so you will need to tell your little ones to wait a few decades.
I give Logan a very modest 4 stars!
Then we saw
Resident Evil the Final Chapter is the 6th live action film of the popular video game series and serves to be the last in this current story-line.
I am not a huge fan of Paul Anderson's movies as i feel he lacks character depth and substance to his films. However as 2 dimensional as these movies are, this one was surprisingly good. The T-virus which was unleashed by the evil Umbrella corporation has literally taken over the entire world but now we finally get the answers we all wanted to know. Alice, the heroine of the film series is tipped off by the Red Queen, An artificial intelligence program running the Umbrella system, on how to possibly end all the mayhem by having to return back to where it all began. Raccoon City to retrieve a vial thought to be the actual antivirus of the T-virus itself.
But going in is not so easy as she soon realizes that Umbrella are awaiting her return. But Alice isn't going in alone. Accompanied by some old freedom fighters including Claire Redfield, the team go in for one final battle.
I liked the unfolding of the story even though it was a little far-fetched and some surprises made the movie work. I have noticed a lot of people did not actually like this entry too much but i gave it 3 stars.

Signs. My favorite of Shyamalan's movies. Mel Gibson's final great performance before he left all these years. This movie has the greatest mix of sci-fi, drama and suspense with a bit of humour. I like all four actors and despite I usually don't like children, little Abigail Breslin sure intrigued me even though I've seen the movie several times. She was like barely five years old at the time, can't believe she's 21 now. But she was the kind of child that might change my mind about having kids but than again so did the girl in Logan. Also James Newton Howard's score is one of the best and I think the movie has one of the best opening credits scene ever in a movie. The score itself is mostly very relaxing to listen to. I truly recommend this movie despite what people may think of Shyamalan.
Angels & Demons. Earlier in this thread I already gave an opinion on the Robert Langdon films and I'm sticking with it. It's just not that great, even though Tom Hanks makes a great Robert Langdon.

On Friday we saw the Founder
This is the true story of Ray Kroc played by Michael Keaton. The man apparently responsible for creating McDonalds. Or so i thought! In actual fact the story tells of a struggling salesman (Kroc) who meets Mac & Dick McDonald who were already running a McDonalds restaurant during the early 50's. Kroc was so impressed with the their level of speed and service when it came to delivering food to their customers that he comes up with the tenacity to franchise their business.
Soon enough, Kroc is contracted with the brothers to expand the business until he deceitfully decides to pull the company from the brothers and create a multi-billion dollar empire.
This is no fairy-tale and boy was i wrong about who Ray Kroc truly was but it is a great movie to watch simply for intriguing your historic curiosity. I give it 3 & a half stars.
Saturday saw us watching the Outsiders..
Released back in 1983 and with a stellar cast including the likes of Patrick Swayze, Tom Cruise, Ralph Macchio, Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon & Tom Howell, Outsiders tells the story of a teen gang of trouble makers with two of the members inadvertently involved in the death of another kid and soon find themselves on the run avoiding authorities. This of course leads to some consequences that are redeeming as well as regrettable.
It is a little outdated but is still a good movie for its time and i thought the cast were quite goodin their roles including Ralph Macchio (He starred in this before playing the Karate Kid).
I give it 3 & a half stars.

Creed and Rocky?
So, a hit or a miss for you?
Personally i loved the first 4 Rocky movies. Didn't enjoy what followed. Creed was certainly better but it just didn't have that thrill of the early movies.

Actually I was planning to watch Creed after the Rocky movies but I didn't feel like going through the six movies first, so I went with Creed first, except it only made me itch to watch the other movies as well. Guess I'm up for a Rocky week than.
I did had the idea though I enjoyed Creed more on the big screen than I did this time around, which I found a bit odd. But I think it's mostly Rocky's scenes that make the movie for me. I never thought I would see Rocky twice on the big screen as I also did see Rocky Balboa on the screen. But all in all Creed was a hit for me and I think Rocky's legacy is safe. I sure am up for more movies in the RockyVerse.
And actually I love all the Rocky movies. Yes, V sucks but there are still strong moments in there and Rocky Balboa sure made up for that movie.
Creed will continue Rocky's legacy and spread his own legacy at the same time.

I remember between the first Resident Evil movie and Resident Evil Apocalypse, my sister and I burned through the first three games, and part of Code Veronica X. We kinda face palmed our way through Apocalypse because Milla was trying to hard to be tough... and it wasn't working. XD
Milla is better at being unassuming tough, like Leeloo from Fifth Element. Angry tough? Not so much... XD

MacGyverGod - Well that's the plan. Or so they hope to proceed with a Creed 2. I guess we will see what happens.
Jedi, I hated the tough girl approach in the first movie. But i hated it coming from Michelle Rodriguez. Not so much Milla.
And from there i just always disliked her. That is of course, till i saw Lost. Then i LOVED Michelle Rodriguez.
I always liked the Resident Evil movies but i never adored them. They were fun to watch for what they were. I only really hated Retribution which was the fifth in the series but the Final Chapter restored my faith. And now i suckered myself into buying the boxset.
As for the games, i was one of the early birds and got Resident Evil 1 and 2 when they initially came out. Finished all 3 but still busy with 4 now as you know.
I believe there are actually 4 CGI movies. The first was called Biohazard 4D Executor and was a 20 minute short. Would love to watch it but not sure if it has English subtitles as it was a Japan only release.

I've seen the 4D movie, I believe it was for a ride or something. But, YouTube is a wonderful thing. XD Here it is with subtitles!
The first CGI movie wasn't bad, the second was over the top... and the third comes out this year... and looks kinda ridiculous. We have an ongoing gag about Leon's hair and how it defies gravity. Leon is such an awesome character though, until they ruined him in RE6.
Did you know that his original voice actor, Paul Haddad, was in MacGyver? XD

Awesome! Will be checking that out later tonight!
Yes, i believe it is part of a ride or something. Apparently you could watch it theatrically too with moving chairs that also blow air on the back of your neck! I imagine that would have been a great experience.
I have only seen Degeneration which was the first commercially available CGI movie. Still haven't seen Damnation. And haven't seen any trailer yet for the new one, Vendetta, i believe its called?
Still, i prefer the Milla movies so i am quite happy i got my collection on order.

Indeed sequels were planned and Stallone said he would be interested to keep playing Rocky. Yet no Creed sequels are coming any time soon. Both the director and Michael B. Jordan however are working on another movie together as we speak.
Resident Evil are nice movies. Yes, Milla Jovovich is the reason to watch those. Can't believe she married Paul WS Anderson. I have an interesting past with his movies since I heard he was like one of the most terrible directors around. But I've come to terms with them, they're not as bad as people say. He directed Mortal Kombat that starred Linden Ashby and even that was better than Street Fighter. I think it's just this thing of making movies of games, it never is any good but sometimes you come around. Resident Evil is also one of them.
Michelle Rodriguez also needed some time for me to get used to. I think she overdid it, in the badass act. I don't even really like her in the first Fast and Furious movie. I began liking her in the fourth movie. She definitely got her act a little better together now.

Sequels to Creed are currently on hold. No surprise as Stallone and his production team usually take their time.
Michelle Rodriguez really shines in the Lost TV series IMO. From there, i saw another side to her. Yes, Paul Anderson isn't a great director. He is okay. His worst film in my opinion has to be his rendition of Three Musketeers.

Into The Storm was great. It's like Twister but better. And yes I would like to chase tornadoes with Sarah Wayne Callies. But Into The Storm was to like San Andreas. They know what kind of movie they're making nothing more and nothing less. The review however is hilarious on allmovie. They say what the movie really needed where flying sharks.
Rocky III was also great of course.
And last night I have seen The Perfect Storm and Rocky IV.
Though The Perfect Storm did better that Into The Storm apparently, I like the latter better.
Rocky IV was really enjoyable. It was financially the most succesful one apparently. Yes, things get maybe a bit silly but in this case it's a guilty pleasure.

Yes, it is. Though I kinda missed Bill Conti but Vince DiCola did good and I like the songs. Something I usually don't in movies. Rocky IV is one of those exceptions, just like Tokyo Drift.
And meanwhile I have seen Rocky V, too. Denizen, maybe you want to see this.
This is a great, honest and right review of the movie. Couldn't agree more. It does take about 40 minutes though. But it's worth it, he points out were the problems are, what the good points are and where the differences lie with the workprint.
I pretty much had a review in mind to write down, but the video shows it all. The first 25-30 minutes of the movie are great right until he meets Tommy Gunn and from their on until the Rocky and Adrian scene on the street, the movie is not so great perhaps for most fans. From there on the movie pulls itself straight in my opinion.
Yes it might be the problem child of the series but I hope this video makes you change your mind. Besides Richard Gant plays a great and terrific role and has a henchman called Merlin.
