In the voice-over at the beginning of this episode MacGyver says Karen is an old girlfriend from Collage and that they were an item for a couple of years. Then a few scenes later Karen says "you didn't just expect to walk back into my life after 3 years?"

This sounds very much like it has only been 3 years since they split up, but MacGYver graduated from College/university in 1974 (see timeline) plus 3 years ago was season 1 so we know he wasn't, and hadn't been for some time, in collage then.

I can't see it making any sense that she would be referring to how long they were together. What difference would that make if they haven't seen each other for 10 or more years?

Anyone else got thoughts on this?

I'd saw that yesterday too and it got me thinking. I was thinking that they spent some time together after college. But that would be like ten years than almost. Seems like Mac had plenty of relationships in between but nothing too serious. So maybe they were always friends or maybe somewhat more like they would have and on/off relationship and they would see each other every now and than.

It's something worth digging into a little deeper because in a time period of ten years a lot of women passed by. Debra from The Road Not Taken, Mike Forrester for the travels he did with Jack in the early 80's. And than it's 1984 for his brief relationship with Lisa Kohler. He thinks she died and probably meets up with Karen shortly after. Again they are together for a short time and break up again right before the start of the first season. She becomes a park ranger and he moves on as he always did. And the next thing you know, you're three years later looking death in the eye and you realize what you might have been missing only to find out it's too late and that's what gives this episode such a bitter after taste.

But back on topic: when Mac crawls under the truck and under the tarp when the hunter drive away, his coat is very dirty but on arrival in the woods when he gets into the truck his coat is clean again.

When Mac gets dragged out behind the poachers pickup truck at the restaurant and climbs up into the tailgate you can see the back of his blue parka is covered in dirt and black oil and mud. In fact his is completely black from the nape of the neck to the seat of his jeans yet a few minutes later when the truck stops and Mac crawls out of the back of the pickup truck his jeans and the blue parka are completely clean

When Mac makes the large SOS directional arrow indicator for the helicopter, he clearly makes it on a grassy clearing. But when the chopper final spots the marker, it's suddenly situated back on the dry, arid ground where they (Mac and Karen) first pause, and where Mac first conceives the idea of constructing this indicator.
