When MacGyver is climbing the mountain to help the stunned eagle and the kid is watching MacGyver climb through his binoculars we see MacGyver dangling from a rope that is attached higher up the cliff face he is scaling. Where did this rope come from? Then when he works his way along the underside of the overhang and his “tent pegs” fail so he falls a little before the rope catches him and he is dangling upside down with a bleeding nose and his red hat disappears only to reappear a few seconds later.

heehee...I found one...go figure.
MacGyver takes to following the eagles to get them acclimated to his presence. In the scene while he's hand gliding behind one, the eagle swoops down to the water and Mac follows dragging his feet in the water...OK...the eagle that's swooping down to the water is a BALD eagle, but then when it's plucking a fish out of the water, it's a golden eagle again.

Another difference, Bald Eagles are fish eaters - live near water - lakes, rivers seas... Golden eagles live mostly inland and eat small animals, rodents.

This is a great episode, but there are a few goofs and nit picks. To start with, were in the heck on god's green earth is this place??? We go from dry, fall-like weather, to wet & freezing mountains, to a desert and... the Grand Canyon? O_O Granted there's snow in mountains at high elevations, but I don't think you'd be able to climb that far up in less than a day and I *don't* think there's that much snow sitting on California mountains at any given time.
When Mac begins his descent after retrieving the eagle (RUNNING like a fool. the poor terrified eagle), we see him in a white shirt in far shots, while he's wearing a blue shirt up close. I think they just found some stock footage of a dude climbing and running down a mountain for a lot of the scenes, and just dressed up MacGyver accordingly. I don't think it was an actual stuntman they hired. The eagles are probably just stock too, very OLD stock from the look of it. Where did the studio store their stock clips anyway, in a garbage dumpster? Geez, it was always so crummy looking, like they unspooled it and walked all over it with dirty shoes. :-\
I suppose it's possible Mac just kept taking off his blue outer shirt and putting it back on in between shots. Including the scene where he jumps the crevice - blue shirt before leap - white shirt during leap - blue shirt during landing. Damn, those are some ninja undressing skills!
And lastly, vegetable oiling the nesting material for the eggs. WHADDYA DOING MAC?!!! Are you trying to KILL the eagles?! They put oil on bird eggs so they won't hatch, for crying out loud! Goose eggs specifically, but I'm sure it has the same effect on any species - death. It's called addling. :---(

Although it does stated that it works by preventing oxygen from getting through the shell to the bird, meaning the shell has to be completely covered, so one would think that if the oil was only lightly sprinkled around the fiber as MacGyver did, he may well have not put the egg actually in the oil, or if a little got on the shell it wouldn't be much of a problem as most of the shell would still be oxygenated.

I suppose if you put it on only afew hours or minutes before they hatched it wouldn't hurt, but I don't think Mac could have known exactly what stage they were at. The problem with oil only being on part of the egg is that oil "creeps", or spreads around due to gravity or... err, can't remember the correct term. But it's like when you wipe greasy hands on a napkin, in afew hours the whole napkin gets greasy, even if you used just a corner of it. A better example would be WD40, how you can put it on a squeaky hinge or whatever, but the next day it's mysteriously made a mess of oil all over everything. Eggs also need to be turned while they're developing, which would spread the oil.
Ever weirder, how would oil cause chair stuffing to get warm? O_o That sounds like hog wash to me. Maybe even the worst ever MacGyverism. Next time I spy a chair with that kind of stuffing I'm gonna grab some and try it. That could be forever though, havn't seen one in ages. Hmm, maybe I'll have to try to buy some online and do a mini Mythbusters of my own.
I know about the egg addling thing only b/c I live near a river and we have a major geese overpopulation issue. Basically our parks are almost completely coved in poop in the summer and you really don't want to take a stroll anywhere remotely close to the water, especially on the jogging path.

Does he say what kind of material that is? It's kinda hard to say anything about it if we don't know what kind of oil and fiber he was mixing together.
I would assume it was based on some kind of chemical reaction fact as MacGyverisms of this kind were based on some kind of scientific fact.

After doing some googling last night, I think the fiber/chair stuffing was horse hair. I'll have to watch again again to be sure, but it dosn't appear you can get that stuff very easily these days. I read something about synthetic horse hair, that may have been the material as well, dosn't seem likely though since the chair looked rather old.
I'm working on my car the next few days and that's priority uno, after that I'll work on finding some of that chair stuffing, call upholstery stores, etc. Or, if anybody else knows of an old chair in the attic at grandma's house or somethin', please let us know and give this simple no-cost macgyverism a try.

Even the most well trained dog may still feel fear - it's likely it was worried that Mac was flying too low - or whoever was flying that glider.

I can't help wondering if this was in fact just a case of poorly executed and badly filmed MacGyverism so we don't quite see what was really intended.
I kinda get the impression that the oil was meant to be lower in the fiber to generate the heat and then the eggs where sitting in the top bit to receive the heat.
Still as has been said already egg incubation generally requires very specific temperature ranges and egg turning etc and this MacGyverism had none of those requirements.

The closeup/mockup used for Mac's mountain climbing scene - is, well, lame. You can see the mason's swipes, just barely dry, in the mortar/cement and thus quickly lose the sensation - normally evoked - of scaling a steep face.
