Another great season 3 episode, I can watch over and over and never get tired of the interation between mac and jack.

QUOTE (MacGyver @ Nov 6 2005, 07:46 am)

"Rock the Cradle"- another great episode with MacGyver, Pete and Jack!!! I love it for that reason alone- there is definitely always great interaction between Mac and Jack and even more so when Pete is there too. And I really liked seeing Jack, Pete and MacGyver all trying to take care of a baby. That was really funny- like MacGyver's version of "Three Men and a Baby". (I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of the inspiration for this episode- both came out in 1987!)

And one of MacGyver's coolest MacGyverisms here had to be building that great baby playpen out of hockey sticks! And Jack Dalton built a plane in MacGyver's living room!

I voted good. Not great not excellent but enjoyable.

QUOTE (MacGirl @ Nov 6 2005, 09:26 am)

I voted good, too. Not a top-notch ep, but fun. Loved the humor... it did remind me very much of Three Men and a Baby. And because Jack was involved, you just knew there was more to the story... no ep involving Jack was ever simple, but it was always funny. Oh, yeah... I liked the makeshift crib too. Only Mac would think to use hockey sticks and a goal net!

QUOTE (MacGyverGod @ Nov 6 2005, 10:11 pm)

Just look at the scene when they have to change the baby in Pete's office.

QUOTE (MacGirl @ Nov 7 2005, 09:20 am)

Perfect example!!

QUOTE (Lothithil @ Mar 7 2006, 11:58 am)

I love this ep! Seeing Mac taking care of a baby is so cute! He (and Jack) are so clueless! LOL!

Some very sweet moments when Mac and Jack ask questions about happiness, and a ROTF moment when Jack asks Mac to marry him!

"It doesn't look like me, does it?"

"Him, Jack... not it! HIM! And as a matter of fact, with a little mustache, a twitching eye, and a forked tongue, there's a strong resemblance!" [paraphrased]

QUOTE (MacsChick @ Mar 7 2006, 03:19 pm)

Yeah, this one is hilarious! I like it when Pete says, "What's that ripping sound?" Ductape! MacGyver and Jack's confused expressions are priceless! laugh.gif I also like the ending, when Mac is playing "hockey" on his kitchen counter with the kid. Does anyone else ever notice how the kid looks up at MacGyver when he makes the cheering noises and they freeze that as the final frame? It doesn't get much cuter than that. That baby liked to stare at him, anyway, maybe because he's attractive. It's proven that babies stare longer at attractive faces than non-attractive faces. wink.gif It's also proven that us girls stare longer at RDA than at other people on the show!

Jack (referring to the clock MacGyver places inside the teddy bear): "Mac, this isn't a puppy! (paraphrased) I thought that was cute and funny, too! happy.gif

How do they determine attractiveness when its relative to the viewer?

The kid also pays perticular attention to Jack when he's reading the story to him.

I love the way they created the cradle, out of some hockey sticks and a net or somekind.
I loved it!
And yeah, the way Mac treated the little fellow was downright adorable.

So what, eggzactly, are you saying about Jack?

I love this episode! So many funny moments! laugh.gif And I can't think of anything to say that someone else hasn't said...so I won't!

I think the baby was paying attention to Jack because he was so enthusiastic while telling the story, and the baby was entertained by his silliness.

I still think the airplane part sucked, though harhar.gif

I liked this episode becuase of 2 points
1 - because it was a Jack & Mac episode and 2 - it showed the maternal side of both Jack & Mac.

They were so sweet with the baby.

Rock I dont think he considered it..I think he was just being sarcastic. Anyway, remember the "hanger" line?

Mac: You know this house is not child-proof!
Jack: Well you're the one who wanted to play host.. "You're hanger's too drafty"
remember?

And my favorite is the part when the bad guys in masks get to the hangar and Mac tells them they don't know where she is. I think RDA's expression in that particular scene is totally different from smiles in all other episodes.

Also Mac considering being a father... some day... does not fit in well with the character. Perhaps that's why it was only at the end of the series we learn about SAM.

biggrin.gif I thought so too!

I think I'l be watching this episode again just to see Mac interact with the baby. I love the scene at the end where he's trying to teach the baby hockey.

I thought the end was cute, when Mac and Pete "play hockey" with the baby. I also felt bad for Jack because he thought the little one was his.

Using duct tape to put on a diaper, and Pete telling his secretary that they needed diapers and pins. Shows even back in the day MacGyver was thinking about the environment.

Just an all around cute episode. happy_dance.gif roller.gif

Has anyone noticed that the babies mother's name was Katie? hmm.bmp I guess the producers of MacGyver liked the name Kate or Katie.

Just wondering about the twins who played baby 'Jack'. Malcolm and Fraser Fairweather. I googled them and it seems that twins, Malcolm and Fraser Fairweather are rugby players in Britain - quite good ones, too.

I wonder if its a coincidence?

......................

I love the part when Jack is begging Mac to get involved in his new scheme. Mac says no and goes upstairs and Jack says he might have to stay with Mac a bit longer..Mac comes stomping down the stairs all ready to help Jack. laugh.gif

Here

Scroll down to the article called 'Fraser Valley wins U20 title in a blustery battle on the Rock'. There is mention of them. Now, as the episode was filmed in 1988 and the article printed in 2007, that would mean they'd be at least 21 years old - assuming they were a year old when the show was filmed. It could fit.

Interesting all the same!

This doesn't seem to have been mentioned here yet..

Has anyone seen the movie 3 Men and a Baby? Do you think this episode might have been inspired by that movie?

It's been forever since I've seen that movie. XD But yeah, I can see where they may have gotten the idea from it.

Man, I love this episode. That diaper scene in Pete's office is my favorite in the entire series. XD If I'm having a bad day, that scene instantly puts me in a good mood because it's just... so funny! Who diapers a baby using duct tape? MacGyver. LOL!

'Three Men and a Baby' was inspired by another movie. In fact, it is the remake of the Frenche hit movie 'Trois hommes et un couffin'. Which means 'Three Men and a cradle.'
And guess who directed 'Three Men..'? None other than Leonard Nimoy, aka Mr. Spock.

I really, really enjoyed this episode!

There's a perfect mix of drama and humor. The scene where Mac's fixing the landing gear but loses his grip because of the hydraulics fluid and has to parachute down (which probably was the safest choice anyway, considering he was hanging under the plane! tongue.gif) is hysterically funny. The scenes where the mother felt she had to leave her child behind were heartbreaking, and then we had some good suspense when the bad guys were trying to locate the plates...

But of course, the very core of the episode was the interaction between Mac, Jack, Pete and the baby boy. It's remarkable that the baby performed so well! Of course, they probably had to do lots and lots of takes, but still... the end result is amazing. smile.gif
I *did* have "Three men and a Baby" in the back of my head, watching this episode... I saw the French original *and* the American version shortly after their original release, and found them both amusing, (though the original is better...).

There is something very amusing with having a couple bachelors taking care of a baby. Usually confident men getting awkward and fumbling... It's been done on film a couple times, but I don't actually mind. The baby *does* indeed look a little bit like Jack... wink.gif

The diaper changing scene in Pete's office (and the previous scene, where Jack suggest they should hose the baby down and Mac says no, after some consideration) sent me into fits of laughter. I also loved Jack reading "The little Engine"... and the cradle Mac created was truly ingenious. Mostly hockey gear, and some rope and cushions--brilliant! biggrin.gif

"Marry me?" That line... I just about *died* roller.gif

I think this is my second best Dalton episode to be honest, "Jack of Lies" being my absolute favorite. But, this one is still an "Excellent."

The look on Jack Jr's face when Mac passed him to Jack. Poor kid looked like he was going to cry. The baby wanted to stay with Mac.

At the end Mac and Pete setting a hockey goal on the counter for the baby. Future of amateur hockey!😁 hockey2.gif

Yes. Epic storytelling!! I like Jack's version of The Little Engine That Could. If Jack ever actually acquired a train engine it would be like the one he described!!😁😁
