I've started this tread to spot all the Easter eggs (nods to the past), that will feature in the new series.

Here is the first Easter egg from Peter Lenkov - MacGyver's original home from season 1, episode 1.

Really nice to see it feature prominently in the new series, episode 1.

Could it still be MacGyver's home? Who know?

What do you think about this?

When I see that look behind the glasses I'm thinking about RDA and how he get the role at first place.

Could it be some tribute to Richard Dean Anderson?

Great way to catch the eye of we fans of the original show. I wonder how many more eggs there will be?

I'm little bit concerned about it. From what I see and hear Lenkov is trying very hard to bring magic of the original show which is good for sure. On the other hand I hope he doesn't try too hard because too many references will kill the new one.
We will see. wink.gif

I think you're right. It's going to take a fine touch to make that work.

I think the trick is make it so that the fans enjoy catching little nods to the past, while newcomers don't even realize that they're missing anything. For example, I've been watching Hawaii 5-O a lot recently, and I never watched the original series at all. To me, the show makes perfect sense, and stands on its own just fine. I had no idea if there were any Easter eggs in it or not. But I read recently that there are actually quite a few nods to the original series. So I'd say that's the best way to handle it.

As for Mac's glasses-- I guess it COULD be a nod to how RDA got the role, but if it's a nod at all (I'm not so sure it is), I'd say it's more likely a nod to Dexter.

I'm not sure either but it was my first thought smile.gif . Now I'm curious why it looks like nod to Dexter for You?

Because Mac wore glasses when he was pretending to be Dexter.

HAHA!
I was confused because my first thought was ...a serial killer tongue.gif and I didn't know what You mean.

How could i forget about this! blink.gif

probably it is because I remember almost every episode till season 4. From season 5...oh, well I have a large hole in my mind whistle.gif

So, according to recent (unofficial) promo clips, We can easily spot two easter eggs at least:

- Mac dressed like Bond is obvious reference to "the heist" episode;
- and my favorite one: everlasting motto of reasonable Mrs Freivogel: "Be prepared!"

I don't think that "glasses" picture was about how RDA applied for the role. I think it's a reference to the DEXTER thing.

Hi DXS!
Yes, You probably right. Thanks to Miasma now I remember Dexter (famous Mac's alter ego smile.gif)

But somehow I can't resist thinking about it as a tribute to RDA. That would be great, I think

Hello Mr Duct Tape!
Oh, come on, that was elementary wink.gif ...or I like first season to much... biggrin.gif

But I had to re-watch opening gambit of "Gauntlet" episode to recall Mrs Freivogel smile.gif
Still this is only my guess, nothing else.

This one! Cannot remember the episode number but the image is iconic for the show!

An obvious one:

Patricia Thornton's cover name in the party is "Miss Elcar". Maybe a tribute to "Dana Elcar" as he was the actor playing Mac's Boss, Pete Thornton in the original series.

Bozer says that he got the missile prop from "Penny"; probably Penny Parker?

I didn't get that myself but the Phoenix Foundation Podcast mentioned it. Sometimes I don't get all the dialogue; especially since the episode is so fast paced.

Don't worry, I didn't either!

Well, I didn't hear/understand it correctly; English being a foreign language and all... guess I need subtitles the next time smile.gif

Posted by: Miasma 26 September 2016 - 06:41 AM
English IS my native language, and I didn't pick up on the Ms. Elcar line OR the Penny line. doh.gif

So I guess Penny is still an actress, or at least involved in theater/cinema in some way, if she has access to props. Looking forward to seeing her in a few episodes.

Uff, we really let that thread slide, huh? blush.gif

I just rewatched Episode 3 (Awl) and I think that is the episode where the Mission City Star bag first shows up.

Reminder: That's the picture Lenkov had posted back in August.

Of course, THIS Easter Egg in Episode 1x08 (Corkscrew) wasn't really hard to detect happy.gif

In case you're interested in the Yellow Rubber Duckies - I just wrote a blog post about it: https://dashboardonfire.wordpress.com/2017/08/11/looking-back-at-season-1-viii-the-curious-case-of-the-yellow-rubber-duckies/

I will post the marked scenes with the duckies later in here.

Posted by: DashboardOnFire 11 August 2017 - 01:17 PM

Am I the only one who noticed the scene in "Jet Engine + Pickup Truck" where Mac uses that shoelace hack? It's just like the one he used in "Partners". I haven't heard anyone else point it out.

I have to admit that I don't really "hunt" for Easter Eggs anymore. Some of them do register, but usually, the episode moves too fast for me to catch many of them.
