I bought an upgrade for Papers, a bibliography software. They had a 25% discount, so I only had to pay about 27 Euros, which is nice. Although I'm not sure if I like Papers 3.
I was hoping for a Scrivener discount, but they don't seem to offer one.

Regards, J.W.

Nothing, nada, zilch, buttkiss, zip, zero. I found some LED Christmas lights at the thrift shop, but they
were not on sale, yet about $20.00 cheaper per set than anything that was on sale at the bigger box stores.
Also found a copy of The Hurt Locker on Blu-Ray for $5.00 but that was regular price as well. A lot of hype this
year with little or no discount ... targeting the uninitiated / newbie bf consumers imo.

Thanks, Mr Duct Tape. smile.gif

I agree Joe. In fact Time reported a total drop in sales of around $1 Billion. That is HUGE. Despite not seeing much to buy, I did see a few good deals. For the games I purchased, were going for a fraction of the price they are usually selling for. So I got a pretty good deal.

On the contrary, reports came in that Cyber Monday flared better than BF. And the deals were better too.

People don't just spend money anymore because its a good deal. They are cautious. And as you say, deals are not always so great.

Naturally, if its something you want and it goes for a good price, go for it.

But if it can wait, be patient. Regardless of what retailers say about prices never to be repeated, they almost always are. If not beaten.

Well it certainly seems as if those Black Friday deals are becoming a worldwide phenomenon. Even where im at, there are banners and adverts st almost every chain store relating to some kind of Black Friday special.

And some have already started.

So have you found anything recently for a great price? If not keep your nose on sniff alert as they're popping up everywhere! biggrin.gif

It's like most things, if you needed it, were going to buy it anyway and suddenly see an advert for a great price then you may as well buy it. If you didn't need it and weren't expecting to buy it its a spur of the moment purchase that you could have probably managed without and you might as well spent the money on something you did need. Advertising for these big days is very clever they rely on selling you what you never considered you needed. You tend to think it's cheap so I must buy it even if I never need it. It's very difficult to say I'm going to ignore all these deals as I need nothing esp. when everything looks so wonderful and 'must have'. However, that is the situation I'm in I am lucky enough to be able to say there is nothing I desperately want that I don't already have so hard as it seems I shall ignore the 'deals'.

I've seen a great deal on what cellphones is concerned. I still have a 2005 model and it still works. 11 years of service. I don't know exactly what the deal is but there seems to be cellphones being sold worth of like 349 euros and now they're only 50 euros. Sounds like a good deal, no? I could use a new more updated one than the Nokia I have. Still plenty of time to think about, it's probably for the holiday sales, since it last till the end of the year and afterwards there are the winter sales in January.

Also I've seen there is finally an extended edition release on all The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies on Blu-Ray for only 99.99 euros while originally it's 134.99 euros. Though still a big box with 30 discs in, it is a little smaller (the size of 6 dvd's) than the green box I have of Lord of the Rings which is the size of about 10 dvd's. I've been looking forward lately to newer and more compact releases of movies because the big boxes are just taking up huge spaces. I've noticed more and more that a lot of trilogies or other collections are more compact sold. Like Back To The Future on Blu-Ray for instance has the three movie packed in a box the size of only one dvd. Of course some of them are still pricey. Years ago I thought it was great to have this huge collection boxes and some of them are still pretty decent but the one I have of LOTR is actually just too big though it was one I was the most proud of.

MacGyverGod - that is almost to good to be true, I'd just make sure that the cell phone deal is still from a reputable company. There are many fakes out there, and having chatted to a cell phone repair shop recently the horror tales he told me about how folks can get ripped off by phones sold as new coming to the end of their contracts an then locked out after a few weeks ownership, IMEI numbers which have been changed following theft (yes, apparently even this is possible). I'd be very careful.

Back on the subject of bargains I had a Grandma who couldn't resist a bargain even if she didn't need or it didn't even fit in. Her house was decorated in the most eclectic style - Bright purple garish flowery curtains, orange carpets, vases that looked they had been won at the fair, gothic style wallpaper etc. However, all were bargains picked up at a great price!!

Sounds awesome, MacGyverGod.

I caved in and got the A-Team Complete series off Amazon UK for a mere £17 & The Incredible Hulk at a low £16!

Maclover, soon i'll be decorating my drapes with cut out boxsets of TV shows. biggrin.gif

Like I said, I don't know exactly what the deal is. It could've been a 50.00 euro discount instead, I just took a quick look. But they seemed to have a pretty decent discount for a cellphone maybe for a certain brand. Maybe they're older models, they're trying to sell before the new ones come in. And they are reputable. Ever heard of a shop called Fnac? They sell everything on electronics: phones, laptops, movies, books, cd's, games, tv's, household hardware, pens and school stuff. I buy everything there. In order to get fakes where I live, you really have the know the right or should I say wrong people? I'm not going buy anything out of the back of a truck or that fell of a truck. I just looked at the site and there is a 10% discount on phones. And yes they're doing their Black Friday tomorrow too. Now I just gotten curious on how I got to that conclusion.

Well its another year of crazy specials and from what I see, the whole world now seems to be cashing in on Black Friday.

I'm not sure if Switzerland even knows what Black Friday is... I personally didn't until I joined Twitter in 2012 *lol*.

But it's not Friday yet; so you can get the deals the whole week or how does this work? Are the shops closed on Friday?

Traditionally Black Friday only applied to the US. Over the years however more chain stores across the globe started to "Cash in" on the day to make money. This year alone, has seen a MASSIVE surge of companies getting their foot in the door to make sales. South Africa alone has virtually every major chain store running a Black Friday special.

A lot of companies like Amazon & Zavvi have sales running the whole week.

It's here as well. The shop I was talking about is open till 8 o' clock I guess. Several discounts and cashback possibilities.

If I may ask, how much did you get it for MacGyver1985? I only ask because I saw a Black Friday deal on the complete series a couple of days ago.

Coulda got you one for R200.

Still at that price at Zavvi.com. 14 Pounds for the complete 80's series.

And speaking of which, i just caved and got me an Xbox One smile.gif

Killer price with Battlefield and most are now sold out. Available in few places.

The shops are pretty overcrowded today... blink.gif

I was thinking of going to Menlyn, but, with the recent refurbishments and upgrades (costing R2.5 billion) done to the shopping center, it is expected to have quite a lot of shoppers during Black Friday and over the weekend... ph34r.gif

Will arrange my shopping trip for another day...! w00t.gif

In all honesty, unless you're planning on reaping in on the Black Friday specials, stay at home or order online. I went out to the mall at Rosebank to get the Xbox and it was chaos.

The best way to deal with it is to stay home!

Might be much quieter, safer, peaceful and probably much cheaper! laugh.gif

OK, I said I probably wouldn't play BF. Well I had an expired railcard and just got a BF deal that made the renewal cheaper than I'd been offered about 4 weeks ago. So I've had a new railcard for trips with family and friends. I only save a tenner, but that was 1/3rd off :-D

This year I went for a blu-ray boxset of a terrific crime series called Bron/Broen. It's a sweden/denmark production, really well made in terms of story, music, cinematography and performances.

The boxset contains the entire three seasons.

If you like scandinavian crime stories, you should check it. I recommend it
