Hey all-
I've finally decided to post one of my poems here. This one took me awhile to write, as you can probably guess. I started it back in '05, during the brouhaha surrounding Terry Schiavo. I got to thinking about what I'd want if I were in that situation (heaven forbid!) I also just got to thinking about my beliefs about death and the afterlife, (and also what I want my life to stand for) and this is what I came up with. Hope you like it. BTW, if you'd like to pass it on to others, by all means, do so, but PLEASE credit it to Linnea S. Thanks.

Where I Will Be Found

This body of mine is only a shell for my soul. Though I love this life, I know it will not last forever.
Before I know it, and when I least expect it, will come my time to leave, and I will fly free, released from the world, having given my light, my spirit, and all I could be.
My body will return to my Mother the Earth, to give new life, to continue the great circle.
But as for my soul, my heart... as for me...
I will dance along the edge of morning, in the loving embrace of the Father of Heaven.
I will run in freedom among the stars of night, and hitch a ride on a passing comet.
I do not fear death, for it ends nothing... it is only another step along the road which we all travel.
When my time comes, and death has carried my body away,
Do not seek me in the cemetery, among the silent stones that mark the dead. I will not be there.
Do not seek me in the rites performed over the body. You will not find me.
Do not seek me in tears, in sorrow, in fear, for that is not where I will dwell.
I will be found in the peace of a starry night, in the majestic light of a full moon.
I will be found wherever the sun shines, the wind blows, the thunder rolls, the snow drifts silently, and the rain falls.
I will be found in the new life of spring, the fullness of summer, the striking beauty of autumn, and the restfulness of winter.
I will be found in the quiet of the forest, the vastness of the ocean, the gentle strength of the river, the endurance of the mountains.
I will be found where truth defeats illusion, where beauty defeats barrenness, where love defeats hate, where fear ends and hope begins.
I will be found in holy silence and joyful song.
I will be found where people struggle for justice... in their marching feet, in the songs on their lips, and in the unquenchable flame burning in their souls.
I will be found in the courage and integrity of the martyrs, the dreamers, the truth-tellers.
I will be found in the mercy and compassion of the healers, the lovers of humanity, the relief-bearers, the joy-bringers, the peacemakers.
I will be found in the kindness of a stranger, the wonder of a child, the smile of a loved one.
I will be found wherever unconditional love is shown.
I will be found in whatever small good I have done, in whatever tiny seed of peace I have planted.
I will be found in the faith of those who believe in their power to change this world for the better.
Seek me in the promise of a new day, in the beauty of dawn. I will be there.
Seek me in the joy of laughter, in the love of life. You will find me.
Seek me in the hope of new beginnings, of reconciliation, of healing... in the vision of a peaceful future for all people. You will see me there.
Seek me in the blind faith that our world can be better, if we each give what we can. I will surely be there.
Live in love, hope, and the courage of your deepest convictions, and cast away violence, division, judgement, and fear. If love lives within you, you will see me everywhere, and when your light shines in the darkness, so will mine. In your moments of joy, you will hear my laughter blend with yours, and in your times of sorrow, you will feel my arms around you, for I will be found as close as your own heartbeat.

To live my life in unconditional love and freedom from fear is all I ever really wanted... to make a difference in the world, the only thing I ever truly prayed for, and at the end, I want nothing less than to give myself and free myself and join myself with it all.
If you will only believe that love, hope, courage, and truth can change hearts, can change minds, can change the world...
Wherever you go is where I will be found.

Do not pity the dead. Pity the living, and above all, those who live without love. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I wish I could write poetry.
I’m mostly drawn to humorous poems that focus on the lighter side of life and yours is a bit serious for my taste but its nicely written and makes you think. smile.gif Well done. clapping.gif
