He's cute. I want to pinch his cheeks every time I see him (NO, not THAT kind of cheeks *LMAO*).

Like RDA, he seems to have many fans of different ages and different sexes which is nice. It's not limited to young fangirls swooning over him.

I guess he gathered lots of young female fans over Hannah Montana and lots of male fans during his X-Men-days. As expected, rebooted MacGyver seems to appeal to both male and female fans.

It might be a tad bit spoilery, but it's official Promo Material, after all.

It’s a week into theoretical fall in Atlanta Thursday morning and the sun is baking the asphalt outside construction stages for the ninth episode of CBS’s “MacGyver.” Temperatures have crept past 85 degrees and most crew members that could get away with it are huddled under portable tents.

But George Eads isn’t complaining. The former “CSI” actor now playing a Delta Force agent Jack Dalton is getting to squeal the tires on his silver 2017 Dodge Challenger HellCat racing to see if another character on the show is around. She’s not. “We found Cage’s car,” said Angus “Mac” MacGyver (Marietta’s Lucas Till) on his phone to headquarters. “It’s Swiss cheese and she’s MIA.”

“We have no idea where she is,” Eads added. Moments later, they jump back in the car and Eads gleefully peels away. In fact, between every take, he just revs the engine hard whether it’s a live take or not.

“I’ve had a lot of sports cars,” said Eads after the scene was finished. “I used to take this Mercedes to a track and it’s even faster than what I just drove. On this first take, Lucas was all nervous, saying, ‘George, George, George, George!’ So fun!”

Indeed, he and the younger Till have settled into a comfortable dynamic as part of the crime-fighting team where MacGyver continues to use ingenuity and guile to get out of impossible situations. CBS even includes various every-day products in its teasers of upcoming episodes. The season two episode, for instance, will feature MacGyver using both a cell phone and a soccer ball to help track down a missing Navy SEAL.

While the “MacGyver” revival wasn’t a super smash hit last season, it did just fine in its Friday night slot. The bottom line: it’s considered fun, escapist drama that isn’t too taxing on the noggin.

Till said blow back from traditionalists of the Richard Dean Anderson version wasn’t as harsh as he had anticipated. And he’s now more comfortable in his role. “We know what we have now and can build a foundation,” Till said. “The stunts are bigger and we have a new cast member.”

CBS indeed added Olivia Cage to their team, played by Aussie actress Isabel Lucas. “She’s a CIA operative,” Till said. “She kicks a lot of a**. Kind of like what Jack does, female version.”

Till said he is happy to have more on the ensemble team because it means slightly less weight on him and Eads, who handled the heavy lifting season one. He said he spent the off season doing a lot of yoga because he was feeling plenty of soreness and fatigue from the very physical workload of season one. “I”m a lot better with my preparation,” he said. “I had problems with knees. But I’m all good now. Yoga really works. I’m on my feet 14 hours a day. It’s a beast.”

Eads said he didn’t get enough sleep season one and now tries to get 8 to 10 hours every night to ensure he’s in the right mental state each day. “I’m taking better with myself,” he said. “Lawrence Fishburne is my mentor. I went to his home this summer and brought Lucas with me. It really is like going to see the Oracle, man! We just talked about leadership, responsibility and the ins and outs of fame and the work, being humble in victory… Lawrence said, ‘Some things can only be learned in a storm.’ He had a profound effect on me. He’s been instrumental in helping me grow up.”
He admits he had a little bit of a spoiled brat syndrome while on “CSI” and Fishburne helped kick it out of him for this show.

Till said he and Eads actually got a rare short day Wednesday and went out to eat dinner together. “It’s like the first time I’ve been out in two months,” he said, noting that he sequesters himself on weekends just to rest, watch Netflix (“Rick & Morty” and “Narcos” right now) and regroup. “It’s so worth it,” Till said. “I’m enjoying what we’re doing so much.”

Till said the show shot the third episode this season at what was once used by “The Walking Dead” as Terminus. “I have a panoramic shot of the inside on my phone,” he said. “George and I have a fight while spying on Riley. One of the first real arguments on the show is at Terminus.”

In fact, MacGyver would probably do just fine in a zombie apocalypse. “It’d make a great cross-over dream sequence,” Till mused.

Last season, CBS did do a crossover between “Hawaii Five-O” and “MacGyver.” Till would love to see a crossover with “Scorpion.” “They’re a think tank,” he said. “We posed as a think tank. It would be fun.”

Till noted that Justin Hires, a Clark-Atlanta grad and former star of CBS’s reboot of “Rush Hour,” started on the show as MacGyver’s best friend who knew nothing about MacGyver’s real job. Eventually, he learned what his friend was up to and became integrated into the team.

This season, Hires (who plays Bozer) will be back and given even more to do, Till said, noting that he’ll even get his own three-episode arc without Till and Eads around. “Seeing George and Justin interact is exceptional,” Till said. “They’re really great together. It’s funny. We didn’t necessarily expect it. And it makes perfect sense.”

CBS Local’s Matt Weiss caught up with Till ahead of the show’s sophomore season to discuss how he became MacGyver, his preparation and his favorite MacGyver moment from the show thus far!

MW- Hey Lucas, how’s it going?

LT- Hey Matt, how are you doing?

MW- Doing great! So new season of MacGyver comes out September 29th and this is the second season on CBS with you playing the title role. Taking you back a bit, what was it about this project that made you excited to sign on before season one?

LT- Well, I had no job and wanted to change that. I was looking around at a few things and I had never really thought about network television before. First thing was they were shooting in Portland, Oregon and I really wanted to live in Portland for an extended period of time or at least shoot a pilot up there. It turned out that they picked up the show and they never shot in Portland [laughs]. At that point it was too late and I’ve got no regrets because it’s been the best job of my life.

MW- Now the character MacGyver has been around for awhile of course, what’s it like playing a character that is not brand new, where there have been takes on the character already? Did you watch the previous series to prepare at all?

LT- I did, I think it’s important. At the time I definitely didn’t have as much experience as I do now with people coming up to me telling me how much he meant to them, the original MacGyver. I’m happy I watched, I think I got two seasons in before we started and I just kind of wanted to boil down what made him him, that I could accomplish.

The hand full of feelings that he’s humble, he’s nice – he’s an all around nice guy. He solves things without having to use guns and hopefully not violence. Although every now and then we have to use violence just because that’s what people bring and he’s got no choice but it’s sort of a last resort. So yea, I definitely did watch the original to get some inspiration.

MW- MacGyver is known for his creativity, being able to use the most innocent seeming prop to get out of a sticky situation. In your time as MacGyver, what’s been your favorite premise so far for escaping danger?

LT- It’s so funny, every time someone asks me this I have an abundance. Even after only one season I probably have 100 of them. I used Jack’s heart to keep a heart alive. It’s like a heart in a box pump that keeps hearts alive instead of transporting live organs on ice and it all ends up not being able to work and I use jack’s heart to keep the heart pumping alive so we can get it into someone else.

MW- Wow, that sounds insane! Looking ahead now, what can fans expect in season two?

LT- George and I, I feel like everyday we look at each other and go, ‘I think we’re getting better at this, I think we can make this work!’ It was kind of an impossible thing that first year. I was questioning whether or not I wanted to be actor after that first year [laughs]. It was so much trying to figure it out but once you start figuring it out it’s a lot of work, but in a fun way. We also feel like we’re accomplishing something. Everyone says they can see it in the work, how much fun we’re having while working. That’s what people have to look forward to, just more entertaining episodes. The action’s crazier and the MacGyver moments…the stakes are higher.

MW- It’s a fun watch for sure, and it’s always nice to hear when it’s fun making the show as well. One last question before I let you go and this might be a tough one, I’m going to put you on the spot a bit. Can you describe the new season in three words?

LT- That is hard to do without being trite. I’ll say – sexy, funny, awesome! [laughs]

MW- What more could you want?

LT- Yea! Sexy, funny, awesome – that’s pretty good that’ll get the people.

MW- Without a doubt! Well thanks for the time Lucas and have a good one, take care!

LT- You too man!

Nevertheless, it’s a tough racket, acting, and most of the characters you play are pretty tough. Art mimicking your life?
Yeah, I have to be [tough]. The world is not always kind and I have to be tough in order to deal with people’s prejudices and their perceptions of me and to prove to them that I’m maybe not what they think and to look deeper.

How did you come up with the character of Matty — who I guess is also known as Matilda the Hun?
Peter Lenkov [“MacGyver’s” co-creator and showrunner] laid out her colors — how she fit into this group. Peter’s brilliant and had a very specific idea for her. But all the things she had to go through to get to where she is similar to my life. Nothing was handed to me, nothing to her. What she lacks in stature she makes up for in intellect and power, and she’s earned the respect of her team.

Did you sell yourself to get the role?
No, it was an offer that came to me but we were on the same page from the beginning. Obviously Peter didn’t want the show to focus on how tall Matilda Webber is. That’s just a physical characteristic but [he said] you’re a million other things. He’s kept true to that.

Where do you see yourself in five, 10 years?
I want this show to run for a really long time because I love it and love my cast. I love episodic television. It’s my wheelhouse.

Any reaction from the hometown fan base back on Long Island?
Whenever I’m on Long Island, for sure, and I keep in touch with my elementary school friends. It’s definitely cool and wherever I go people stop me. “MacGyver” is so wide-reaching, I can’t take five steps in an airport without a mob scene. I can’t hide like any other actress by putting on a baseball cap and blending in. As I’ve said before, I’ve been stared at every day, whether I like it or not. But this is nice.

The actress who stars as Director Matilda "Matty" Weber gives us the inside scoop on MacGyver.


Mac is back in action—and so is Matty!

Meredith Eaton stars as the Director of the Phoenix Foundation and all-around badass Matilda "Matty" Weber on MacGyver. She made a huge collar when she brought down Murdoc, but the cunning serial killer is back—guaranteeing she'll have her hands full in Season 2.

We snagged a few minutes with Meredith while she was filming to learn about some of her most cherished moments on the series, life on set, and what's in store on MacGyver.

What was your favorite Mac Hack from Season 1?
Meredith: "One of the best Mac Hacks of Season 1 was where Mac and Jack used Cheeto dust to unlock a phone, and I just thought that was so cool!"

Murdoc returned on "X-Ray + Penny" (Episode 4, Season 2). Can we expect him to be stopped or continue causing trouble?
Meredith: "Murdoc is a nemesis that never goes away ... I love him as a person, I mean the actor [David Dastmalchian], but in terms of his character he is a big nemesis and unfortunately we have not seen the last of Murdoc."


Will Matty have even more badass moments this season?
Meredith: "I always love when Matty has badass moments, when she carries a gun and gets to boss people around. Some of my favorite scenes are interrogating people and getting right up in their faces. It's a lot of fun for me. We'll see a lot more "Matty Moments."

What's your favorite behind-the-scenes moment on set?
Meredith: "One day, we should have a camera set up and just film us behind-the-scenes because some of the most hilarious moments emerge from our time just waiting to shoot. Lucas [Till] is so hilarious and brings such levity to that set. As does Justin [Hires], and George [Eads] is pretty hysterical, himself. There are always moments when we're just crying from laughing so hard."

What else do you and the cast do between takes?
Meredith: "We're all in our chairs, on our phones on Instagram and Twitter, or studying lines. I feel like that's all I do, my life is studying lines! We chitchat and go to craft services."

So far in Season 2, what's been the most interesting scene to shoot?
Meredith: "One of my favorite scenes that Matty has in Season 2 is with Murdoc's son. There's a real poignant moment where she's talking to him, and Matty reveals part of her own past to his son. It's a really sweet scene between the two of them. That was really enjoyable."

Brilliant Halloween Costume Hacks From MacGyver's Own Costume Designer
From fake blood to real convenience, let Sarah Downer teach you some Mac Hacks to make the most of your Halloween.

We might not be able to invent life-saving contraptions on the fly like MacGyver (Lucas Till), but we can hack Halloween!


Sarah Downer, MacGyver's Costume Designer, is responsible for turning some of the show's biggest challenges into a practical reality. She gave us the inside scoop on how to hack Halloween just like Mac and the Phoenix Foundation in the episode "Skull + Electromagnet." Now you'll know some Hollywood secrets that you can use for your own costume!

What's the best substance to use for fake blood?
When making some great fake blood from home, the best trick is mixing some clear dishwashing liquid and red food coloring. The food coloring gives the color, and you can always add some purple if you want a darker shade of red. The dishwashing liquid (make sure it's clear!) helps make sure it will wash out if you don't want the garment permanently bloody looking! If you're looking for a safer alternative for kids costumes, try some strawberry syrup with a drop of red and a drop of purple food coloring.
Next tip: If having any trouble removing fake blood, try putting some shaving cream on it!

Any tricks to keep wardrobe from falling off?
We always recommend making sure any piece you anticipate being problematic should be attached to the whole costume and as sturdy as possible. As an example, for Bozer's "Zombie cowardly lion" costume, we built an elaborate multi-layer lion's mane. Because of the six layers of different hair we wove together (and then mangled!), the mane became a little larger than life, so, we decided to connect it to the collar of a t-shirt. Having the mane attached to a t-shirt gave us room to manipulate and tease for the desired level of "Zombie-fication" AND made it easy for Justin Hires to quickly remove if he was ready to take off the costume! We then put the lion suit on over the t-shirt and had the mane sit on top of the neckline. The final result was purrfect.

Any good techniques to make heavy or bulky wardrobe/props lighter or easy to wear?
The best way to make heavy costumes easier to wear is by distributing the costume's weight equally with the help of straps or snaps which creates stability. Aside from stability, the straps and/or snaps also make sure everything stays in place but is also super easy to remove once you're ready to get out of your costume.

What's a good way to make costumes easier to walk around in and be functional?
The best way to make a costume easier to wear is to think in terms of comfort! Comfort always start with a good fit! If the costume is too tight or too oversized, chances are you won't have any fun. Next, think about making the costume as light as possible which means thinking outside the box in terms of materials you're working with. As an example, for Jack Dalton's "Zombie tin man" costume, we created what appeared to be a heavy tin suit out of a super light weight foam! The foam, once painted and airbrushed, gave the appearance of rusted tin, but allowed George Eads the ability to easily walk about and work.

What easy practical effects, design, or makeup make somebody look scarier/creepier?
Anything can magically transform with the help of some aging. We always start our aging process by washing down our costumes a few times to give a natural well worn appearance. To take your costume to the next level, use some sand paper to give some rips and tears and add dirt to give a gritty layer. Once your costume is "aged", then, BRING ON the sweat stains (glycerine mixed with water) and blood! Instant creep factor achieved!

Any subtle things you can do to make it look like you tried—but aren't actually that hard?
My recommendation is to get creative and never underestimate the items you already have at your disposal in your closet and house! You'd be surprised the options you can 'MacGyver' together and before you know it, you'll have something fun and unique!

As a costume designer, are there common household items you can't live without?
I can't imagine life without safety pins, a good pair of scissors, permanent markers, and a trusted iron. Somedays, I feel like I can conquer the world with just these in my kit.

Is there anything that people tend to overlook that MUST be done from first to last when getting into costume and makeup?
First is to always double check the fit of the garment. When the costume doesn't fit by either being too small or too big, it tends to distract and take away rather than add to the story of your costume or character. The last step that is most often overlooked is in the details and making sure you didn't neglect the final touches. Always make sure to iron (or steam) out any unwanted wrinkles and double check and put consideration into your accessories! Accessories often make the costume feel complete! For MacGyver's "Zombie Wizard", I really paid close attention to finding the right accessories to make him truly transform into character. We played with several different pocket watches, suspenders, spats, and bow ties until we found the right one that really fit the character!

How did you decide which costume to use for each actor?
My entire team was SO excited when we got the word we were doing a Halloween episode! After reading our script, and receiving direction and feedback from [Executive Producer] Peter Lenkov, I collaborated with both my amazing team and our clearance (legal) department to see how far we could go in regards to a "Zombie Wizard of Oz" theme. To pay it safe, we actually made two versions of every costume so in the event that something wasn't cleared to use, we had a secondary version still in play. We added some fun details into each costume to really make each look unique such as such having Jack's heart exploding from his tin chest as the "Zombie Tin man" or my personal favorite, Riley's (Tristin Mays) custom made rhinestone studded Doc Martin boots for her "Zombie Dorothy"! We had such an incredible time making these costumes! I couldn't be more proud!
