First of all, the episode was great, I thought it was great that chemistry between Tristen and Lucas was great as always BUT I hate when it the writer/producers try to insuate a Mac/Riley romance also. Maybe they are teasing the romance but I hope that's all.
I second the whole “MacRiley” thing. They have a lovely brother/sister relationship, to make it more a boyfriend/girlfriend thing will only ruin - a good thing.
MacGyver should be like James Bond, not tied to any one girl and always on the look out for the next adventure.
Yeah but he' s not James Bond. I agree that they have great chemistry but more like a brother and sister bond besides, I don't think Jack would like it even though he isn't around.

Actually the premise of MacGyver by Lee David Zlotoff was to take the British icon, with his flashy and glossy exterior and fancy gadgets etc and strip the concept right back. So MacGyver kind-a-is the American version of James Bond. Sorry to disappoint yeah, but zlottoff used ”Bond as a reference” when he pitch the idea to abc all those years ago... 35 to be exact 😉👍
Ratings look good! At a 0.6 and 1.0, it’s staying consistent.

Yeah, but to me, they're different two characters, while JB has gadgets galore underneath his jackets, Mac could pretty much make one at the drop of hat.
Where and how did they suddenly out of nowhere get a fully constructed wooden frame and bungee cords from? Where did they find all those nice clean perfectly cut to size 2 x 4 beams from and how did they nail them all together when they have no tools or building equipment with them?

I really liked the episode. Loved the chemistry between Mac and Riley and glad we learned why Mac/Desi didn't work out. The chemistry between Mac and Riley was palpable; don't know where the writers are going with this. Riley's face at the end when she was with Aubrey: she was thinking of Mac. I wouldn't mind if the two of them show more sparks in the future. I think episode 7 (Mac+ Desi + Riley + Aubrey) might explore this.
I also liked Russ and Bozer scenes. Some humor is always good.
As far as building the contraption is concerned, I tend to go with it as long as the science is sound. Let's face it, a lot of what they do would require more time than they usually have in real life, so I suspend belief for a bit and just be entertained (I've wondered how they get to these places in so little time; how fast is that jet anyway? Another instance of acceptance and suspended belief )
Overall, a good episode. I am looking forward to learning more about Codex. (and Mac's aunt!)

Weren't there constructions going on already? So they could have gotten some of the tools from there maybe
I found it worse that the others were wearing protective gear and Team Phoenix just strolls in in their everyday clothes, not even wearing a hard hat
Also, I'm pretty sure the overhead shot of Kalrsruhe wasn't actually Karlsruhe . Karlsruhe isn't as pittoresque and pretty; at least not the times I've been there. There's also no river.
Edit: According to German fans, this was Heidelberg. Guess there was a mistake when asking for stock footage or digging into the stock footage archives... Because there was no reason to have the location being Karlsruhe if they couldn't get stock footage from there. They could have just taken Heidelberg in the first place.

The use of some German terms is debatable, but it's a lot better then the train episode 1x05.

I appreciate the usage of a non-English language when appropriate (especially German, which I am so hopelessly lapsed in )...also helps show Mac's linguistic skills, even if it's just ein bisschen.
The on-going construction angle kind of got glossed over in the early part of the episode but I think that's where they were going with it...to plant it in your mind that there would be a lot of tools/construction materials available. Wish they would show more, but we're down to > 40 minutes of non-credit time per episode, so something has to go.
The protective gear (or lack thereof) was weird. At least give them a helmet and flourescent vest.
Karlsruhe is still close to the Rhine at least (I believe it's on the western edge of the city)...at least they didn't use Saarbrucken or Dresden or something aways away.
Overall, this was definitely a lot more my style episode-wise. The "Mac must save people in peril" is usually a good time, this time we had the added bonus of no bad guys and no violence. I'm not a shipper, but I get the Mac and Riley thing. It makes a lot of sense. Curious to see if they go that route.
So, Codex, huh? And they go back to at least WWII days? Anyone here watch "Timeless?" Getting Rittenhouse vibes from this "collective."
Excerpt: By analyzing (OK, overanalyzing) MacGyver’s uniform shirt, we can learn that:
He earned the Arrow of Light Award, as shown by the square knot above his left pocket. He holds some sort of district- or council-level position, as evidenced by his silver shoulder loops. He’s a member of the Greater Los Angeles Area Council. The council shoulder patch he’s wearing matches the one below.

Another good one. WWII stuff is always great material to work with. Rescue ops are also fun and I think a little more challenging to write if you want the entire plot to depend on the disaster rather than someone pulling a gun and fight.
I'm all in for the MacRiley shipping. Though I have nothing against Desi at all, Riley is I think the only person who would understand Mac and the other way around as well. A relationship is a two-way street and these would match big time. It's not just the big brother act, this could be more and it would work out too.
I thought I knew Aubrey from somewhere. He played Morimoto in Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift.
Also very interesting that this new dark organisation has roots in World War II. So they have been around a long time.
By the by, how fast is that plane if they got from the West Coast into Germany on the same day? Just like Patricia Thornton seemed to be able to teleport, so can Mac, Riley and Desi but than with a plane?
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.
