Something tells me the original with Larry Wilcox (the Gunman!) was not like that. Though I never saw the original. It was never even released as far as I know in Europe, or at least not Belgium.
I actually only know Wilcox thanks to Gunz 'N Boyz and it wasn't until much later I found out he and the other actor had a small cameo in National Lampoons Loaded Weapon 1. But they didn't strike me as the type who would make jokes on high school level.
What the trailer is concerned, it looks great. It could've been Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller. Not that I ever watched Dukes of Hazzard either but I'm pretty sure they didn't do much honor either.
This would seem like something I would watch. Guilty as charged that I would like this.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.
The trouble is the original CHiPs with Jon and Ponch wasn't a comedy, least not as I recall it. I used to be an avid fan. Jon was lovely.
You're right it wasn't a comedy, although it was a fairly light heated action drama show and had plenty of comedy in it, but it was in the same was MacGyver had comedy in it between him and Jack for example.
This movie is like a bad spoof.
Oddly enough I watched an episode of the original show not so long ago and it actually holds up pretty well. I still found it enjoyable and entertaining.
A few years back when my kids were younger we watched a few episodes of season one - they enjoyed it as well.
Just proves they don't - can't - make 'em like they use to.

We had the TV series here in the UK - one of my school-friends had a crush on Ponch. .
I remember it as an action series, not a comedy. From the trailer, the movie looks a bit too puerile and school-boy humour for my taste, so I won't be rushing to see it.
