It would be boring perhaps to have an obvious connections between episode titles and contents.
Are they just picking randomly from an encyclopedia ?
After the first few obvious titles things are just odd
Welcome to the group Lvirden.
As most TV shows, books, plays, chapters, episodes, etc are named after their contents I think "normal" is a better word to use than boring. I got the impression they were trying to be smart by using tools of the SAK as episode names, but I think it feel flat on it's face because the names have nothing to do with the episode so really just came off as being a silly gimmick.

I think, too, that most people have no clue about a lot of the more obscure tools on the SAK. To a lot of people, it's a knife with a screwdriver, can opener and cork screw, nothing more.

Yes good point. That makes the episode names even more obscure.

I think ever since the early 2000's episode titles sort of lost their meaning. And lots of shows don't even show it any more. Which is also I think a step backwards. Now everything has a main storyline throughout the season so who needs episode titles? You know what it's all about, right so who needs it. I just think they're still using it to give it just a name.

I know many disagree with me on this (especially the guys of the Phoenix Foundation Podcast ), but I loved the idea of naming the episodes after SAK tools.
But as with the paperclip art, they didn't manage to take this brilliant idea they had and develop it to full potential.
It feels like they thought about episode titles and gave the writers the prompt to write - and then somehow along the rewrites, the filming and the editing forgot about it. Also, I think the episode title should have been part of the most prominent MacGyverism. It's too subtle like this and for some episodes, I didn't get where the episode title even comes from until my rewatch in German.
I think it's weird they don't display episode titles anymore. It's not displayed on my "television info screen" when I watch it, either - so if you don't have a TV programme magazine or check the internet, you don't even know what it's called. It's also interesting to know that they didn't literally translate the titles into German - they thought up new titles completely unrelated to SAK tools. (They did it for some of the French and Italian version, though.)

I wouldn't say I was against the title names being SAK tools, except eventually you'll run out of tools. XD That and it would have been much smarter if they had used the tool in some fashion in the episode so people knew what in the world they were talking about. I just thought it was lazy to use tool names for every single episode. I'm bad about title names, and I could do better than that. =P
The original series titles made sense, at least. For instance, I was reading up on American History and Trail of Tears. After reading on that, the episode made a lot more sense, and reminded me somewhat of the protests against the Dakota Pipeline.
I don't care what anyone says... the original series is still just as relevant today as it was during the original airing... just a tad outdated. lol

The episode titles were relevant in the original show and often mentioned during the episode: GX-1 for instance.

I never saw Friends but I never liked that of using episodes titles such as 'The one with...' I understand though that that is something you might say when discussing it with your... 'friends' and can't come up with the exact title so you say 'the one with...'.
