MacGyver Online Forums > MacGyverisms > Chewing gum wrappers no longer foil

Hi folks,

I came upon a disturbing discovery just now: I opened my Doublemint gum pack and found every gum wrapper to be waxy paper instead of paper-backed foil.

That sucks, maybe some companys are still holding onto the paper-backed foil?

I work for a company that manufactures a product made from foil and they are starting to use plastic instead. It's basically a matter of cost savings for a greater profit.

I was just thinking about this, and to be honest, I haven't seen foil wrapped gum for years, it's either wax paper or plastic now.

I bought a pack of Big Red tonight and the gum was wrapped in foil. There's still hope. happy.gif

In the past I folded up a 1 sq. ft. section of aluminum foil and put it in my pocket. Negligible weight and size, and oh so many options. For instance, in a REAL jam, if you drop it in a bottle of toilet bowl cleaner, it... well, allow me to illustrate with youtube:

As a result, you would end up with caustic hydrochloric acid all over the place- especially if it got in eyes someone would be in a world of hurt. More effective as a diversion though I'm sure.

Haha believe it or not I have yet to actually try it myself, I've just seen other people do it. I figured there'd be a video on youtube, and of course there are 100.

Uh huh. *nods*

You just tell them how to do it and then stand back right. Total deny-ability!

I know! I know! I have to use a volt-amp test meter in my work. Whenever I forget to reset the knob to the proper voltage it blows out a small, protective fuse. My past technique has been to wrap the blown fuse in foil-faced gum wrapper for a temporary fix. I was disappointed during one recent fuse-blowing episode, finding that the "foil" is actually non-conductive polyester. Outrageous!

I am sitting here and grabbed a piece of gum and mentos gum packs are also foil. The macguyverism really does work. I watched my dad do it when I was a kid.
