In an interesting turn of events the floating home used to film the iconic 80's show 'MacGyver' hasn't sold on it's ebay auction.

The auction closed on May 10, 2012 at 19:49:39 PDT with a closing bid of US $99,900.00, however this wasn't enough to meet the owners reserve and so the float home remains with them for now.

Posting on their facebook page the owners said "Our intent is still to sell the float home, but now we will try some new avenues. It has still been a highlight of our lives to this point wth the response we've received. Who knows where Plan B will take us." It's unknown at the moment what their "plan B" is, but we'll follow them with interest.

So there is still a chance for one of us Mac fans to snap it up! I hope it is sold in the end to a MacGyver fan, who will appreciate what the houseboat means to loyal viewers.

I'm really not surprised the floating home didn't sell. Only because the place was part of MacGyver doesn't mean you can charge upwards of 100.000 Dollars for it.
Judging from the pictures, the kitchen is in need of some serious overhaul. It looks like something you could get from the local DIY in the 70ies. I wonder about insulation in the place - a major concern these days!
Yes, an interesting house with a fascinating history. The perfect bachelor's den, just like in MacGyver.
For how much do other floating homes of that size sell?

Regards, J.W.

I just did a quick search and it looks like $150,000 - $500,000 is the going rate for similar floating homes. They seem to price the same as a normal land based house.

You. Must. Be. Kidding.

I'd never pay that much for a house with that kind of comfort. Maybe it's because I'm German, but to me, and's End would qualify as a decent place for a university student to live in. Really, my 40 year-old bathroom looks in better shape than the one in LE.

Housing costs are based primarily on size and location, not comfort I think. But I can understand different countries having different standards and expectations.

Ok, I've just found out that in that same marina there is a 1,340 square foot float home going for $355,000 and a 650 square foot little home for $109,000. That would put the 1,200 square feet (approx) Lands End float home into the $250 - 300,000(?) price range I guess. And that's just plain market value, without the history attached to it.

Wooow too many views. Who would be paying more than $100000, seems MacGyver fans are not that rich!
