Cynthia Wilson

Cynthia and her late husband, Booker, have known MacGyver since the late 70’s when he started working full time at the Challengers Club after leaving collage.

Since her husband was killed, she has continued running the organization on her own. In spite of some trying times Cynthia has kept the Challengers Club running and continuing to be a positive influence for troubled youth in the community.

I liked the character of Cynthia Wilson a lot. It was great to see MacGyver working with her and Booker with The Challengers Club. It just helped to show MacGyver putting his ideals and values into action through volunteering- because actions always speak louder than words. (and most shirts) tongue.gif
So it was nice to see someone on the show who was saving the world not by being the action hero and doing the daring rescues and such (though that's important in its own rights)- but being a hero just by being there for children and offering them a safe haven from the influence of guns, drugs, alcohol, smoking, gangs, prostitution, etc. (Of course, MacGyver did this a lot himself as well along the way in the course of his missions or adventures.)
It seems Cynthia Wilson was one of the more frequent characters (by a slim margin) than some other memorable characters- having at least 3 appearances under her belt in "The Challenge", "Runners" and "The Madonna". It's a shame she didn't appear in "The Gun" or "Gunz 'N' Boyz" (two other episodes involving The Challengers Club and its members)
But I think she was a great support for MacGyver and stood for something MacGyver certainly believed in. And certainly "The Madonna" was also memorable not just for being a Christmas episode- but also being the first Christmas without Booker- and seeing both Cynthia dealing with her loss as MacGyver is dealing with the loss of his mother. And both eventually finding solace in the song "I'll Be Home for Christmas"- and of course, in coming to terms with their feelings.
But I also love Cynthia's line in "Runners"- "Never could say 'No' to a stray, could you, MacGyver?" Yeah- she's right. And neither can she. That was another great quality of Cynthia. She accepted everyone just as they were and tried to help them be the best they could be. Again, that image just resonates with me so much because it reminds me of the loving Father God. That definitely makes her and Booker heros in my book. smile.gif duct.gif sak.gif MacG.gif

I gave her good on this excellent woman. Cynthia is one of those persons that like MacGyver at least bothers to listen to the children and kids in problems, looking for a solution for their problems. You have to be everything for them: mother, father, big sister, best friend. She was the kind of woman I needed for my problems last years and my problems in school during my preteens. The Challengers Club there for is a great initiative. It provides a place to stay and food. It may not have all the fancy things but what more do you need besides a roof, food and fitness materials to knock yourself out?

Cynthia was a very realistic character, and one of my favorites. She was sort of world-weary but still idealistic, still believing that she could make a difference for at least a few kids... and she did. She was a sort of quiet hero, as opposed to an action hero. The world needs both kinds.

She is definitely someone I would turn to if I were a troubled youth. Her warmth, compassion, and inner strength despite adversity (especially her husband's death and having to run the club without his steadying presence) make her a remarkable and memorable character. She could have been sappy or sentimental, but she's realistic. I've known some youth counselors who are a lot like her, and I admire the character it takes to help those in need.

I voted excellent for her. Not only is Roxanne Reese a great actress, I loved her character.
She has just the right amount of compassion and street smarts for the part she plays. Too bad her and Booker didn't have children-at least none mentioned in the show.
The scene in "The Challenge" where they took Booker's body out of the Demon's turf was so emotional; how she cried and said, "That's my husband..." then turned to Ray. Then MacGyver had to walk back in with the cop and he looked so sick to his stomach. Great acting by all-one of my favorite episodes.
And boy, can she sing:)
LOVE her!
