Rewatched the episode. Jack said the dad died when he was 12 and the mom had lots of problems, did not say she died.
I thought this was a fun episode. Love Mac in class While I love Jack (esp. with Mac) I was glad it didn't eat up lots of time. Not a big fan of B story lines in general. I prefer Mac/Jack together lol
Sweet ending when Mac gets the diploma. And looks like Riley has some serious thinking to do.
I wasn't too confident about the ratings because 5 or 6 shows premiered on cable and streaming sites yesterday, but I'm glad I was wrong.
As expected, it lost against LSM but it had better demo and higher audience than last week. The demo even keeps up with H50 and BB (which are usually higher than the Reboot). Looks good!
"Blindspot" used to have about 4 millions viewers and the same demo, but it looks like it's no competition anymore. Also, I'm kinda surprised that the episode had a better demo in young adults than the other CBS shows. Maybe the "young" setting of being in College helped?

As usual, they lost a bit in audience while H50 and BB gained some, but the demo ratings is the same for all 3 CBS shows. Pretty cool. Also, this is the episode with the highest demo and audience number in Season 3 so far.

Liked this one...though I'm not sure I buy Bozer as a keg stand champion...lol.
The pacing was much better this week and the B-story wasn't superfluous and served to develop characters. Definitely has me curious to find out what will happen with Riley.
It's an episode that improved as it went along. I really wasn't into the beginning of it, but then there were a few classic MacGyver moments in it, such as Mac taking on the professor's challenge, and the ending with the bomb (though I do wonder if the debris from the bomb might have caused some serious injuries to whoever happened to be walking under it, not to mention to whoever was in the building next to its explosion.)
One of the things I never cared for much about this reboot is how young the cast looks (none of them, other than Jack, look experienced enough to be a trusted agent), and this episode really made that apparent, which I guess is one reason I didn't care for it as much as some other episodes.
Jack's side story was actually kind of fun this time around.
I couldn't help but wonder how Original Mac would have handled this episode. Half the episode probably would have been devoted to him telling the college kids why they shouldn't drink.
Yes I thought that too. Unfortunately I think there's only a small handful of original fans watching now so Easter eggs are pretty much lost on the audience these days.

Is there a post somewhere dedicated to all of the Easter eggs?

Saw some similarities, though... far fetched. Jack letting the guy go at the end, the guy's story reminded me of the story Ray had from the Challenge. Of course the whole Western Tech/bomb storyline felt a lot like Hell Week, to a degree.
Nice to see the characters showing a level of compassion though.
Not too sure about the whole beer keg thing. But, I was never into that crowd myself, so that may just be a personal thing.
Overall, not a bad episode.
Now, honestly, Mac showing up the teacher was kinda dumb. In a situation like that, probably best not to tip your hand, so to speak. Original Mac was really good about not doing that, but instead let the other person underestimate him.
Mild gripe there. lol

OK, this one was not bad at all but they need to find the right balance between the main storyline and the side storyline. Actually that would mean that both storylines need about 23 minutes of screentime each every time. To be honest, the storyline was not needed.
The Western Tech setting was nice of course. But... was I the only one expecting the teacher to be called Professor Ryman?
Further there seems nothing much I can say about this episode. It was nice to see an episode set at home. That new bomb design looks quite scary if they can make it out of transparent stuff which would make the bomb practically invisible. But nice ending though by letting the bomb float away. They all float.

I kind of did too and I expected more negative reaction on this here but clearly it's alright. But half the episode? It would've been the entire episode. If our Mac was in this episode we'd probably get Twenty Questions 2.0.
Our Mac would never ask any of his friends to start drinking for a diversion. He probably found some other way. Now I think of it... was it necessary? The party was going all ahead full. I think Mac, Riley and Leanna could've found the information they needed without that, everyone was busy partying and walking around hardly noticing them.
But I kind of like to see things in this version the original version probably disagreed with. Does it make it less Mac or just different? And why should this Mac disagree with the things our Mac disagreed with?

While Justin Hires said several times he doesn't drink at all, he sure plays a good drunk - at least a good version for comedic scenes on film
Although maybe Justin knows exactly what being drunk feels like and THAT is why he doesn't drink (anymore). Anyway, I still feel these are exactly the scenes where Justin can shine. Even watching reruns in German TV, I still feel his acting in the S1 finale was horrible. He was really good in this episode, though.
