What are the most common signs that you are "sick" of the holidays?

1-You've got red and green bags under your eyes

2-You're serving reindeer pot pie

3-When you hear, "Sleigh bells ring, are you listenin'?," you scream, "No! I'm not listening!"

4-You climb on your roof and start shooting carolers with your air gun

5-You think you hear your Christmas tree taunting you.

6-Instead of spending time with family, you're watching some guy make photo copies

7-You're busted for running through town wearing nothing but mistletoe.

8-You've got eggnog coming out of your ears

9-Your standard response, "And happy holidays to you too, you ***"

10-Two words: tinsel rash

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

I can definitely identify with the eggnog problem... my sister starts buying it right after Thanksgiving and at about 100+ calories a glass, it can rachet up the poundage rather quickly if you're not careful. This happens every year, and every year I threaten to dump it down the kitchen sink drain... but every year I don't... What can I say - It's my one holiday vice - I'm a glutten for punishment if there ever was one. Treadmill, here I come...

laugh.gif Thanks for posting that, Rock! I'm definitely sick of the holidays! I was fine this morning, and I had a good time, but once the afternoon rolled around and I had opened all my presents, I got REALLY sick of hearing Christmas music! I'm just worn out with all this stuff. Christmas is a holiday that, to me, is like Valentine's day. It's almost as if people go out of their way to make you feel miserable if you're not spending time with someone. This was my first Christmas alone, and it was kind of tough. sad.gif Fortunately, I'll be back home soon. smile.gif

Mac's recipe for eggnog (Phoenix Under Seige) actually looked and sounded better than the stuff that comes in cartons we get from the grocery store. Although they do vary slightly - some have more nutmeg than others, while others have a richer-sweeter taste, none of them are made with alcohol.

Anybody got a recipe for "Real" eggnog alcoholic or not? rolleyes.gif jeep.gif

puke.gif That sounds disgusting! I’ve never tried it but can’t imagine when anyone would want to drink milky eggs! Doesn't sound very good for christmas if you serve it chilled either. that won't warm you up after being out in the cold! You're better off with nice warm mulled wine. happy.gif

well it doesn't taste like milky eggs.. its kinda creamy and vanillary.

The eggs are there to thicken it up I guess.. but it tastes YUMMY!!

the use of raw eggs though does raise the question of health issue.
I did see something about a cooked egg version.. anyone tried it?

Thanks Rocky for the recipe... and the address.

Yes... the raw eggs are definitely an issue. That's the only advantage to the store bought stuff - it's pastureized...all the bad germs are killed off by heat before anyone drinks it. I think they have to do that - by law... otherwise they might be risking a food poisoning event. But if you make it yourself, "... well, that's a whole 'nother ballgame..."

unfortunately we don't' have eggnog in New Zealand so I'm stuck with home made version...

i wander how it would react with heating and then coolign again to kill germs

Hmmm... I sense some kitchen chemistry...

you know, you really should, at the very least, mix it up too see what it looks like before putting it down.

Its no different to adding an egg to a protein shake.

Good point. That’s probably why I don't like the idea of it. Don't like shakes with eggs in them.
So did you try heating? Did the egg behave or go all scrambly? Just curious because I have a friend that puts milk in to his scrambled eggs (makes a sloppy mess!) but I guess the egg to milk ratio isn’t quite as high with your eggnog mix. laugh.gif

apparently if you put an egg into water of at least 63 degrees Celsius (145.4 F) for 3.5 minutes (I would say 4 ,minutes just to be safe) and then drop into ice cold water to quickly cool the egg back to normal temperature..

It pasteurizes and kills the bugs. smile.gif

Ok I am definitely the odd woman out here. Eggnog? YUCK!!!! I can't stand the stuff. How about a nice glass of a really good Cabernet or Syrah? Or my all time favorite, hot chocolate with a shot of Bailey's Irish creme or peppermint schnapps? For the non-alky version, swirl a pepprmint stick in the hot chocolate mug, and don't forget the whipped cream.

MEP--Cranberry cheese cake!!!!! I'm on my way. And I don't care what kind of eggs you are using.

Actually, I have never used powdered eggs, but I have used powdered milk for many things.

I'm late on this one...

I'll join in with those who don't like eggnog. I can stand maybe two sips, and that's it. It's way too rich for me.
