"I think if you try hard enough and make the best of a situation, the situation won't get the best of you." -MacGyver. You can tell from my signature that this is one of my favorite quotes from Mac. I just think it's quite true, and we should use it whenever possible.

Sometimes I forget the quote itself, but I think for the most part I have got this philosophy incorporated into my life. I guess enough so that I don't even make it a conscious effort anymore.

I was just posting in another thread and noticed the quote at the bottom of my post.

It really rings true right now as I am at home on furlough due to the govt shutdown. I had hoped they would get their act together and not shutdown and furlough us, but that was not the case. I'm on day 3 without pay now, but I'm trying to make the best of it. I didn't think about Mac's quote so much as I guess I've just got it ingrained somewhat now. For the past three days I've not been sitting at home. I've been taking care of errands and stuff that needs to be done anyway. I'm hoping that this furlough doesn't last long, but the best I can do for the situation is to get stuff done that I normally have to "fit in" to my schedule.

Trying to make the best of a situation, so it doesn't get the best of me. happy.gif

I've been thinking about that quote recently too. Isn't that from Flame's End?

In my case unfortunately at this point in life it's the opposite. The situation is winning or has won. It's a long sad story. In short there has been some radical changes in both my personal and professional life since the past year. And I never agreed with any of them. In my personal life that's been the story of my life and professionally I was just powerless to do something about it. Can't say more about it, it's better to stay discreet. But the thing is in the past two months it was like I was beginning to pay the price mentally. Now somehow I'm trying to make a new start but that's not going well. At some point I'll have to draw conclusions I think on some matters.

But we have to keep on trying and stay busy to make the best of the situation.

Sorry to hear, Mate. Life can get pretty crazy sometimes. Something bad happens and because you feel that you have now suffered, it will move onto someone else, instead, it has other plans for you. Lately, I have tried to make my life less complicated. Revert to a simpler and more comfortable corner. I move along with life, granted, but i try not to tackle the impossible.

The important thing I try to do is to look for answers to my problems within my circle of can-do's. From there, i span my life to live in the confines of what it is capable of at that current point in time. By doing this, I dont trespass on turf i am unable to control.

At the same time, I support all the decisions i make in my life. Whether we make a good or bad decision, it is always a choice we made at one point or another. And we thought it was a good idea at the time. My point is that not all our decisions in life are based on childish or foolish beliefs. There is logic behind it. We make decisions based on numerous things but when the time for regret is upon us, the only reasons that surface are the poor ones. Always try to remember the good things that made that choice and you will never go wrong.

Actually the quote comes from "Birthday" in season 2. The pregnant lady says it when Mac is trying to get his Jeep out of that pit in the warehouse.

Well that reminds me of the classic saying - when life hands you lemons, make lemon-aide. biggrin.gif I recommend Anthony Robbins' http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0684845776/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0684845776&linkCode=as2&tag=macgyveronlin-20(you can buy it for 1 cent on Amazon) for chapters & chapters on how to turn things around and keep them going in a positive direction - so many mental gymnastics techniques that really work.
