I'm not huge on horror horror, but I love campy/humorous horror. Evil Dead 2 is one of my favorites (the whole series and the tv show too actually). Also Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Cabin in the Woods, Shaun of the Dead, etc...

Pride & Prejudice & Zombies fit that bill, but was also clearly aimed at people who know the original story well. I tried to read the book, but didn't love that as much. Also compared to the ones above, PPZ didn't have as much rewatch factor. I haven't seen AL Zombie hunter yet...

We also saw Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter written by the same guy. I believe he is involved with the It movies in some fashion.

My mom literally just saw that last night laugh.gif

But music movies and musicals are different (I love Moulin Rouge which is sort of both since it turns pop music into a musical).

Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born, Almost Famous - movies heavily featuring music
Greatest Showman, Into the Woods, Les Miserables - Musicals

I happen to like both though *most of the time*

Wait you like Pride and Prejudice and you like zombie movies.... what did you think of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies??  I liked it way more than I thought I would, lol...

I love the Greatest Showman!!!

So would Amadeus qualify as a music movie then? I'm learning something new today... XD

I forgot what a great movie Moulin Rouge was. I haven't watched it in years, but man did I have a big crush on Ewan McGregor back then. lol

I do like horror movies, but I do draw the line at movies like SAW... which I feel takes it too far. Horror shouldn't be so realistic and sadistic that it causes the audience to need therapy afterward. But I do like a good scary movie like Alien.

There were a couple of Anime movies based on the Dead Space video games that weren't bad. They were a lot like Event Horizon though. The games were difficult to play because they were so dang creepy. Still, they weren't as nightmare inducing as the original Alien. I dunno what that movie did right, but it still gives me nightmares.

I would say yes!

I watched the first Saw because Cary Elwes was in it, but yeah that type of horror is a bit much for me - not a fan of "torture porn" as people call it. I'm not sure the original Alien is considered horror? hmm.bmp But I love action/sci fi suspense as well.

Don't care how gross a movie is, if the movie appeals to me, I'm in. And yes, Alien is considered a horror movie.

So you like zombie movies, eh, zoeryan?

Last night I've seen Zombie Strippers! That pretty much says it all. It's a satirical movie of course about a virus that spreads out in a stripclub in Nebraska. To club owner Essko (Robert Englund) it's the best thing that could've happened to him since he thinks the zombie strippers are going to make him rich.

It started off a little lame but once we get to the stripclub we enter From Dusk Till Dawn territory. Only they're zombies instead of vampires.

The movie is of course B-movie trash starring Jenna Jameson and Robert Englund. Maybe you better watch this when you come back from a night out. It's not bad, it's not good, it's watchable trash. 2,5 stars.

Children of the Corn.

Married couple, Burt and Vicky are on their way to their new home, on the way they run into a child with their car who appears to be murdered. While trying to find help they end up in a little village called Gatlin which seems to be deserted. All the grown-ups have disappeared and only a group of children are present in the village under leading of Isaac and his nasty henchman Malachai. Isaac leads the cult claiming to bring the word of a demon and has brainwashed most of the kids. Malachai is send out to capture Vicky and Burt. While they capture Vicky, Burt is helped by two children who refuse to participate in the cult. Burt has to figure out a plan to rescue Vicky and take out the cult.

While the movie has been disapproved by King, the movie was pretty decent. Not great, but decent. Starring Peter Horton and Linda Hamilton (right before her Terminator breakthrough). 2,5 stars.

Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice.

John Garrett and his son are driving to Hemingford, the town next to Gatlin, where the inhabitants intend to take in the children from Gatlin. But Isaac's cult sees a revival thanks to one of the kids called Micah. While Garrett tries to find a good story and keep his son in line He Who Walks Behind The Rows still creeps around in the cornfield. With the help of a Native American doctor Garrett tries to find an explanation for recent events.

Produced by MacGyver 2nd season producer Bill Froelich and co-starring Ned Romero (Baba, at least 120 years younger). This also was pretty good to early 90's horrorfilms. And I think this could've made a great episode for MacGyver too. Watch it and you'll know. 2,5 stars.

This is the 1000th reply in the topic.

Just got back from seeing Ralph Breaks the Internet. Two things:

1. It was better than the first one

2. I cried. A lot. Surprised myself

I haven't watch either Wreck It Ralph movies. I really should, I guess. XD

I just finished X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse. I wanted to catch up on those before X-Men: Dark Phoenix comes out next June. It's so weird to see so many actors from other franchises in there... Lucas Till as Havoc, Evan Peters as Quicksilver and Sophie Turner as Jean Grey.

Out of all of them, Quicksilver is my favorite... but I'm biased because I just like Evan Peters. XD

I'll post my two favorite scenes in another thread.biggrin.gif

I actually hadn't seen the first movie at all, but it's been tradition since 2012 for us to go to a movie on Thanksgiving, and Ralph Breaks the Internet was the best candidate, but I didn't want to see it until I saw the first one laugh.gif

I probably wouldn't have seen them otherwise, but now I know what I was missing XD

Getting curious about it. I think originally The New Mutants and Dark Phoenix were set for this year along with Deadpool, so actually three X-Men (or related) movies were supposed to be released in 2018. I thought New Mutants was set for September and Dark Phoenix for November and both of them were delayed with at least six to seven months.

I need to get my sister caught up on X-Men before we see Dark Phoenix, or I may have to go see it by myself. XD The Phoenix Saga was always my favorite part of the cartoon series back in the day.

My sister and I watched Skyscaper and Meg last night. Both were pretty good movies. My sister is afraid of sharks, so Meg freaked her out. I will admit it had some great scenes.

Skyscraper was pretty good too... it was kinda like a combo of Towering Inferno and Die Hard with a hint of You're Welcome.

My sister and I got into the habit of saying "you're welcome" every time Dwayne Johnson's character broke something.

The Devil's Advocate.

A young promising lawyer, Kevin Lomax, is lured from Florida to New York to work in the most powerful lawfirm of the world led by John Milton. Overloaded by gifts: money, a huge appartment, new friends and a big career, Kevin and his young beautiful wife Mary Ann settles in New York. Kevin wins case after case but starts to neglect Mary Ann who feels lonely and more isolated each day. When Mary Ann starts seeing disturbing things, Kevin tries to figure out what happened with himself.

A talky supernatural thriller starring Keanu Reeves, Al Pacino and Charlize Theron. The movie was a bit long and the scares are not the main attraction here. Though they were effective but a little too spread out over nearly 2,5 hours. Then again it's about Reeves and Pacino not about Theron who is going mad, yet she delivers scene after scene. She was so great in portraying a woman who slowly descents into madness. If you can act convincingly that you're going mad or are mad, that's when you can call yourself actor. Also thumbs up for Reeves and Pacino. Reeves shows he can act: he shows emotion and has an incredible rant scene with Pacino. And talking about Pacino: that guy is the devil himself. His speech about God is really great.

This movie was good but a little talky and it was not about scares but more about the story and a tad long. Maybe a second viewing will make me appreciate it more but it's definitely worth... 3 stars.

Crimson Tide.

Russia is in a state of war and America sends out the USS Alabama, a nuclear submarine commanded by Frank Ramsey and young second-in-command Ron Hunter to check things out in the ocean. The submarine is set on red alert after receiving word Russian rebels have seized missile silos with nuclear weapons in it. When a new order comes in the radio malfunctions leaving the crew with an incomplete message. Ramsey and Hunter are going toe-to-toe with each other, while Ramsey wants to proceed the attack Hunter wants to wait to receive further instruction in case of question. With both men fighting over command, a mutiny emerges seperating the crew into two groups.

This is one of those massive 90's actioners, directed by Tony Scott and starring Denzel Washington, Gene Hackman, Viggo Mortensen and James Gandolfini. The score was done by master Hans Zimmer and I think the theme is the very first one that really became popular. 3,5 stars.

Zombie Strippers sounds terrible! At least vampires are still sexy lol

I also have not seen the Wreck it Ralph movies, but now I'm more curious. I watched The Darkest Minds on the plane, did not think it was very good though - and I like YA dystopia. A lot of people gave the Maze Runner series a lot of flak, but I actually enjoyed all three happy.gif

It's really the kind of movie you should see at home with a few friends and after a couple of drinks or something.

12 Years A Slave.

Solomon Northup is a free black man living in New York with his family in 1841. Under the pretense of a job offering he is lured to Washington D.C. where he is sold as a slave. He ends up in Louisana working for different owners and is faced with the atrocities of slavery. Over the course of 12 years Solomon tries to survive and remain optimistic and wait for a time he can be free again so he can go back home.

12 Years A Slave is an interesting story and based on the true story and book of the same name by Solomon Northup. These straight out movies are amongst my favorites that don't shy away from any content. The violence lies in the treatment of the slaves which is downright inhuman. The movie stars: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Fassbender, Sarah Paulson and Brad Pitt. Another great score by Hans Zimmer and an outstanding theme he made for Solomon Northup. 4 stars.

Hamlet (1996).

For the first time in my life, I have seen Hamlet. The complete 4 hour version of Kenneth Branagh and again that man delivers. He knows what he's doing and what he is dealing with and he was able to put everything from the play on the big screen. Just like the major epic movies from the 50's and 60's. I saw the 4 hour version at once, yet I thought it would be a terrible, slow paced bore but it was none of that. I do have to say that the entire build up in which Hamlet sets up his plan to bring down his uncle through a play was indeed a little long, but once after that the movie makes great progress. And it's really accessible for every new generation. The monologues are great and well performed by Branagh, the sets are outstanding as well as the costumes and the actors are topnotch. Besides Branagh we also see Derek Jacobi and Kate Winslet (just before she went to Titanic) and also Billy Crystal and Robin Williams in minor roles including Brian Blessed in the role of Hamlet's ghost (those icy blue eyes, they were not so bright in Lost Treasure of Atlantis, I wonder if they used lenses). Also the score by Patrick Doyle was great.

Despite a very limited release Hamlet didn't do well at the box office but was overwhelmed by positive reactions world wide. I do have to say you really need to see the 4 hour version. Apparently there was a 2,5 hour theatrical release but you need to see it in full. With this I never imagined I would so easily get interested in someone like William Shakespeare. I'd probably stick to Branagh adaptions, I also have Henry V here and if I can ever find Much Ado About Nothing, I will hope to see one day just like Romeo and Juliette. Even that old English sounded pretty good. Anyway this movie gets 4 stars.

It's called CGI. You really don't think people finally managed to learn animals how to speak and train them into acting did you? tongue.gif

The movie is in post-production and set for the summer, so they still have about 7 months or so to tweak everything out.

Yeah.... I got that part. My point was all the Disney remakes thus far have been live action (even Jungle book qualified with the kid in it) so this is the first one that is basically just updated animation. Still looks good though!

I guess the real live backgrounds ought to do it.

Alexander Revisited.

The longest version of Oliver Stone's movie there is. At 3,5 hours he tells the story of Alexander The Great and all his conquests, his relations with the ones close to him, including his mother and father. While visually very impressive the film has flopped on pretty much everything. Historical movies are always subject to inaccuracies. Also in storytelling the movie goes back and forth and despite the timestamps on screen it can be rather confusing. Whatever happens in Alexander's present time, like in case of betrayal, the past explains how the traitor and Alexander met long before he was crowned king. This goes throughout the entire movie and the further story is told by Anthony Hopkins. The battles are some of the most brutal ones I've seen but there are only two of them in a 3,5 hour long movie and I was kind of hoping there would've been more of that.

In structure the movie is unfortunately a bit of mess and it could've used at least two other major battle scenes. I can understand where the poor reception comes from though. 2,5 stars.

Saw Mary Poppins Returns today - loved it. I have a lot of nostalgia for the old one and love musicals so I was probably predisposed - but I thought it was really well done, with an extremely hard task. Also I love Lin Manuel Miranda (of Hamilton fame) and it was awesome that Dick Van Dyke was in this one briefly.

Finally got caught up on the Avengers movies. Just watching Infinity Wars today. I enjoyed it, though I felt they over dramatized it a bit. I get that it's supposed to spark emotion, but I'm not emotionally invested in these movies, so I don't care. XD I mostly just throw my hands in the air and go "Really!?"

But despite that, I do enjoy these movies. They're entertaining. I just need to go see Aquaman now. WOO!

I also watched Bird Box as well. It was pretty good. Worth a watch if you're into that sort of thriller. I know it's been causing a bit of a buzz since it came out, so I had to check it out and I wasn't disappointed.

Edit: I forgot to mention that David Dastmalchian has a tiny bit part it in. It was not a big role, and I wasn't sure it was him. I looked it up and sure enough, it WAS him. XD Yay!
