I saw that on the news and on Twitter today. Quite scary and sad.

I read that the fire is most likely an accident and that at this point the fire has decreased in intensity, so it's under control. The roof is destroyed for two thirds and structure of the building is secure, so they should be able to rebuild it.

I was wondering what caused it. From the sounds of it, at least nobody got hurt... but I haven't been able to read much on it yet.

If it'll be of any comfort, the church I work for is 160 years old and has caught on fire twice. I don't know the details of the first fire, but the second one was due to lightning striking the bell tower. The church survived both fires and was repaired. I'm sure Notre Dame will be just as fortunate, if not more so given how iconic it is.

I was shocked when I walked into the coverage of the fire. I'm so glad no one was hurt, and that the damage wasn't total.
