Made me an electromagnet out of a nail and a battery when I spilled a box of pins on thick carpet. It was inspired by "Phoenix Under Siege" where MacGyver disarms the "New York lock" door brace terrorists put on a fire exit by making an electromagnet out of a fat battery and an iron bar. Well, how else I was going to get all those sewing pins out of the carpet and back in the box ?! |

I sometimes wish I had tried, but I've never found the time or need or remembered to try it. That and I might actually blow something up--- I am not really a scientist... I haven't even taken chemistry yet except for a basic beginers class... Firn |

I tried several MacGyverisms. One in particular: that one used in Eye of Osiris when he tries to "copy" the print after the plate has fallen into the sand. |

Now I'm curious. What were you trying to make a cast of? I remember as a kid trying to make a cast of what I believed to be a deer print (can't for remember why I was doing that?!) but I got bored waiting for it to set and wandered off and when I came back there was just a muddy trampled mess where the print had been . |

It was the paw print of my previous dog. Didn't work though.... (talking about -isms, this is a little off topic; there's a commercial on TV from Citroën; from a light bulb they make a car, now how's that for an -ism? ) |

I never tried to replicate any MacGyverisms. Wish I had though. |

Well, this wasn’t exactly a MacGyverism . . . but it was from the show. A while back, I attended a weekend workshop on self-defense – basically “how to get away from an attacker”. I’d arranged to attend with a friend of mine who tops me by about half a foot and outmasses me by at least 30 lbs, all muscle; and he’s had real martial arts training, while I never formally learned more than how to fall safely. (My fighting repertoire consists entirely of dirty tricks.) I got knocked down a lot that afternoon. At one point, when I had missed a hold and he had me on the floor (again), pinned on my back, I grinned up at him and defiantly asked, “Had enough?” He laughed so hard I was able to wriggle loose. So, in a way, it worked! |

Had 'em right where you wanted 'em, eh? I'm afraid the best MacGyverism I've come up with is making an emergency fuel/water funnel out of an empty 2-litre bottle by cutting off the bottom and throwing away the cap. |

Well, Last ime I went camping, we spotted a car broken down on the side of the road. The driver had said the fuel line had had snapped and he had no tape to fix it. We decided to go the MacGyver way and use a Ball Point pen. It actually works. We followed him back into town, and it didn't miss a beat the whole way... |

I have tried some at work and have come up with some real lulus. Some work, some don't. Especially when the maintence man at a nursing home couldn't come up with something to fix a call bell. Boy the looks I would get, especially if they worked. |

I have magnetized a screwdriver, hiting it with other screwdriver, to pick a screw that fall in a place that was far reach of my fingers. Really work!. Mac uses this trick in episode NIGHTMARES. |

Here's an embarassing one. I went to the store and left my house keys IN my house, so when I came home I was locked out. After finding out all of my windows were locked I had to figure another way in or do what RDA did and smash a Window. Being that I rent I had to go with the first option. I looked up and "saw the light". I screwed the lightbulb of my porch lamp, smashed it, and picked my front door light. So, thanks Mac for the idea. As proud of myself as I was, it didn,t lessen the trouble I got into with my husband. |

My last MacGyverisms and this really doesn't count because it was kind of a matter of life and death. I went into an asthma attack in the bathroom and to get me into the kitchen I had my husband go and get his four wheeled buggy, (you know the one where the front wheel swivel,) so that he call 911, I collapsed out of a chair in the kitchen. Then the squad used the buggy to get me to the stretcher. Kind of reminded me of the Faith Hope and Charity episode. And yes I know it doesn't really count. But I asked myself what would Mac do if he were there, and that is the only answer I could come up with. Now my husband being an old Kentucky Boy can come up with all sorts of MacGyverisms. |
