My camera is not hooked up, but mine is an old Classic (circa 1985)

This is the only pic I have right now...

Missing the tweezers, but still has the toothpick.

I'm getting the new one, as soon as I decide what I really need... it's tough decision!

Here's one shot with an old Timex handwind (like in the first few seasons) that I used to have. SAK is a Tinker model. Hoping to add an Adventurer model soon (locking blade). smile.gif

Nope not a cop, at the moment anyway. It's a field that has interested me, particularly since health problems forced me out of the Army early.

In my state it's legal to carry a firearm on one's person, and I do....everywhere. The weapon pictured is the one I carry primarily, a 9mm SIG Sauer P250c.

Nope, that's an IWB (inside the waistband) holster, so the body goes between your pants and boxers and the loops up from behind up over the belt and snap into place.

Ha! Using my X-ray SAK to scan into your wallet I will commit identity theft and take your credit card numbers- is your fault for keeping your wallet within the picture.

*scans*

Darnit! This wallet got nothing but bills in it!!!
*LOL*
One of my uncles used to work as government employee (thousands of years ago!) and he had to carry a gun with him all the time. I remember it was a revolver at first. Then it was something very similar to yours (I can't tell the difference between nowaday guns anyway).

Is that a second SAK under your keys?

It is.

And why wouldn't guns be appropriate? I AM not MacGyver, only a fan. To be a member here do you have to think and act exactly like MacGyver...don't remember reading that as a prerequisite. And frankly, MacGyver's view on guns are wildly ridiculous. If you think pacifism and a Swiss Army knife are realistic solutions to some of life's grimmer problems you may want to seriously reconsider your position.

Lastly, I might add freedom of speech is a "liberal" ideal if you need some way to reconcile, and moreover the presence of a Swiss Army knife means I'm on topic.

I thought it was odd there was a gun in both pictures. Can't say.. well, its the stuff I pulled out of my pockets.

But I just blew it off thinking, well, if he had a corvette, we probably would have seen a picture of a corvette instead of a gun.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of most of our members having little or no interest in guns so may not be that interested in seeing pictures of guns. The rest is just opinion, which we're all entitled to have.

Now getting back on topic, what brand is that SAK with the criss-cross patten on the handle (the one we can clearly see)?

I have a strong preference for Victorinox knives for EDC knives, so I have quite a few. The blue CyberTool 34 is my EDC, and from left it's that, Swiss Champ Plus, Explorer, Farmer, Soldier, and Classic. Also shown in the pic is CRKT Wrangler, Spyderco Delica3, some old pocket knives from my grandfather, and Benchmade fixed blade. Not shown is a Buck fixed blade my dad bought me long ago and a Victorinox Recruit in my tackle box in my buddy's boat.

Champion, 80's Climber, 80's Camper, 3 Executives, 2 Sportsmans, minichamp with no handles, and a bunch of little Signature SAKs. Then the Wengers are a Viking, Handyman, and Highlander.

I have a Tinker and Mechanic not in the picture. In case anyone doesn't know (I wish I did sooner) there is a community of SAK enthusiasts at Knifeforums.com under SOSAK. They actually modify SAKs and collect vintage ones. The modding is actually inexpensive and fun.

Anyway, I've owned more than what's in that picture, I just lose them quite often. Maybe that's why Mac always had a different one every week! sak.gif

My first one, the one with the wood, is what I carry with me in my pocket. I have now been collecting SAK's for few months and been trying to get the ones MacGyver used in the serie. I also collect some others that I happend to like or get good deals on. Lately I have been really interested toward all vintage ones. In my search for MacGyver used SAK's, I used earlier researches and discussions. I may not have all of the ones listed, but I think I got most of them now. I have tried to study some of the SAK's in MacGyver episodes, but with the DVD quality it's really hard to know anything for sure. Lots of assumptions and guesswork, but I'm pretty sure some of these models were used.

Here are some Wengers, the first two were not used in MacGyver, only Handyman, Pocketmate and Classic 11. The Wenger Survivor has unique tool in it, high decibel whistle and In-Line Skater has handy 4mm Allen Wrench

I really like Victorinox Hunstman so I have 3 different versions. Huntsman lite is different from the 2 other, since it's got LED light, pen and other tools.
user posted image
Tinker is truly one of my favorite models, since it's got Phillips Screwdriver. I'm not a big fan of corkscrew. All of the other Tinkers are new except the one on the bottom which is from the 80's as far as I know. user posted image
Here are some Recruit models that were heavily used during Season 3.

That is an amazing collection, Harry! Totally awesome!

Posted by: Harry1982 20 September 2014 - 11:06 AM
Thanks denizen. There are still some missing, Barlow seen on Stringer, Standard (old Spartan), reverse shield Climber. Also some older models in 84mm size. It's a bit strange, there were/are collectors in this forum in the same MacGyver used SAK hobby, but atleast I couldn't find pictures of their collections.

Next I'll need to read the SAK collectors companion, I'm really interested about the history and how SAK has evolved in it's long ride.

Some vintage one's I bought took me an hour to clean, then some multitool oil and vola!

I own a spartan and other knives you probably don't know called 'laguioles'.They were made in the South of France ,there's a bee on them, maybe it rings a bell. The sad story is when they created them they didn't think of asking for a patent. So nowadays you can find laguioles made everywhere even in China and the locals (countrymen) were deprived of their 'invention'...

Posted by: Harry1982 22 September 2014 - 05:26 PM
The one engraved was from one Finnish knife store. You can choose whatever name/text you like for free. I had to get one with MacGyver on it, I think it's very cool. If I only could get it signed by RDA it would be perfect. New Victorinox knives like Spartan cost around 15-20 euros and classics something like 10 euros. Lots of different colors to choose from.

My sak.gif has suffered some authentic battle damage...

After thirty-mumble years of being carried around in pockets or on keyrings, being used a lot all that time, one of the red scales has finally cracked in half and fallen off.
What are my chances of finding a scale for a 1984 Spartan and being able to fit it, do you think, folks?

Posted by: MacFan092985 28 September 2014 - 08:16 AM
Check eBay, that's where I bought my replacement scales. They are sold in different lengths, so as long as you know the length of the scale you need you should be able to find a new set. You can check YouTube for videos on how two replace the scales if you need any help . . . that's how I learned. huh.gif

Still not Victorinox but I love it! It's exactly the kind of knife I've been planing to buy for ages but it was way too expensive for me and then my mom just finds one and gives it to me for free!

Very nice Duckt Tape! Looks sort of like the same functionality as a Wenger 'Toolchest' or the like. More than enough to get you into and then out of trouble - for sure! sak.gif biggrin.gif

Areed. Great looking knife, Duckt tape.

Gah! You're gonna mess up your knife like I did mine setting the blades like that, MacFan. It won't ruin it, but you see how mine looks in my avatar, well the blades didn't open and stay put with quite the same snap after that.

Duckt tape,
what brand is that? I've never seen a knock off with that many blades and stuff. I had a Swiss Champ years ago and found it was difficult to use, plus carrying it in my pocket was impractical, it needed a belt sheath.

I have no idea about the brand or if it even has one, but I do know that it was probably bought from Clas Ohlson as it was in Clas Ohlson's belt sheath. Swiss Champ is the one I was originally planing to buy but i guess I won't need that anymore biggrin.gif

QUOTE (SAG @ 23 May 2008 - 01:08 AM)
And frankly, MacGyver's view on guns are wildly ridiculous. If you think pacifism and a Swiss Army knife are realistic solutions to some of life's grimmer problems you may want to seriously reconsider your position.

Do you really think a gun is a realistic solution to life's problems? I'd rather hold with Mac's ridiculous view... whistle.gif

surprise.gif come on now? You can't be serious?! I have never seen him with other knives than a Spartan or a Thinker...? dry.gif

That is one very impressive collection you have there, Kristelle! Must have taken you ages to collect and outsource those knives. thumbsup.gif

Is that a pair of aviator sunglasses in the case?

Posted by: Kristelle 8 May 2015 - 02:42 AM
not mine, it's Mario's. I could not believe Mac used so many different SAKs, as I only remembered seeing thinkers and spartans. But now I looked more carefully and noticed a couple other models too. But one must assume Mac had a cupboard looking like Mario's to replace all the SAK he lost or stolen from him biggrin.gif

Hope you have a good insurance Mario, that collection must cost a fortune!

Here's one shot with an old Timex handwind (like in the first few seasons) that I used to have. SAK is a Tinker model. Hoping to add an Adventurer model soon (locking blade). smile.gif

Question: Does anyone know where I could get a replacement scale for a Wenger Commander?
I'm having trouble finding one and I'm not sure a Victorinox one would fit.

Rocket, register & start a thread on http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/board,13.0.html about the part. Lots of UK/Euro members there that can assist, suggest and/or supply.

I believe it to be a Camper. We have had some pretty good adventures together.
