Mac is back! The action-adventure drama, and hugely popular, MACGYVER is coming back to CBS this fall in the reimagining of the classic series. MacGyver creates a clandestine organization within the U.S. government where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives. MacGyver and his team take on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and a paper clip.
Fans will be joined by series stars Lucas Till (“X-Men”), George Eads (“CSI”) and Executive Producers Peter Lenkov (“Hawaii Five-0”) and James Wan (“Furious 7”) for an exclusive sneak peek of the first season, followed by a panel discussion. Michael Yo (@MichaelYo), correspondent for “The Insider” will moderate. (Ballroom 20)

Will this be filmed, will this seminar be available to view somewhere, or at MacGyver Online?
They're not always official; but from my Twilight fan days I know that sooner or later every ComicCon panel will show up on YouTube... or fansites put up the transcript to read.
Since it's the first and one of the most important promo stunts for the MacGyver Reboot, I'm pretty sure they will upload some official videos (short clips from the panel) and interviews...

Great way to advertise and promote the new series.
I don't know about you Dash, but I feel like a kid in a candy shop - the excitement - can't wait for this series to air?
The fact that this is featuring on the opening day at Comic Con, and they have Wan, Till, Eads, and Lenkov promoting this show. Means that this is very strong and high profile with Comic Con and CBS. This is no second-class series.
It was announced during the week that Letal Weapon would air in the Uk on ITV. That announcement doesn't give many fans confidence in that series.
But, I have heard a rumour that SKY have bought the rights to broadcast MacGyver in Uk. They already broadcast Hawaii 5.0, and is a huge ratings puller for the channel. So perhaps the two will sit alongside each other like they will in America.

Cool! Kinda exciting to see what they'll release!
Though, if I had it my way, I'd be asking for a custom Jeep Wrangler with that paint job... XD
"Walk in love. Walk in service. And you will walk in honor." (Good Knight MacGyver) "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow." - Albert Einstein "What are ferrets made of? Happiness."
I'm picturing how stupid this new show would be if that electric car with the MacGyver logo on it turns out to be Mac's car in the show, instead of the jeep!! (I know it won't be, but it's a funny image.)
Any MacGyverOnline members able to attend this event?
It would be good to have someone there who can ask the intelligent questions re:reboot and get some concrete answers to this new series.
Here are my top three questions
#1 Is this series focusing on MacGyver's son or a reboot of the original 80s character? #2 Will the original theme tune feature prominently? #3 What ways will you enhance this series and are you going to expand the diversity of MacGyverisms.
Oh and the new poster isn't going down too well on social media.
But just to say, (speaking from experience working in TV) MacGyver production team would have very limited control and/or direction in the promotional material created and supplied by CBS. Those images were designed prior to Lenkov's involvement and between now and comic-con new material may be created and supplied, by Lenkov. They begin filming the series tomorrow, and publicity shots are generally taken at certain points during each day of filming.

To be honest, I don't want to get too excited yet - because it's possible it might take me up to 2 years to get to see this "legally" (I mean on TV or via DVD because downloading movies or music actually isn't illegal in Switzerland).
If I realize I actually like this reboot and have to wait for another year to see it, I might get angry...
Also, I'm on holiday the next week and will miss all the internet goodies *sigh*...

Maybe the pilot has an opening gambit about paperclips?
That poster reminds me of the paperclip that script writer Brian Durkin posted which later got deleted... they seem to have lots of love for paperclips... product placement?

I have a bad feeling that whatever they show at SDCC will have to be the greatest trailer/preview ever to impress the masses and internet complainers. People tend to be so closed minded anymore. People scoffed at the mere idea of a MacGyver reboot.

What is it with the paperclip?? These guys know there's more to MacGyver than paperclips right?
All we seem to be hearing/seeing in promotion is Paperclips, bubble gum and SAKs.
I'm getting worried about how superficial this is becoming already.

I've always wondered about how many notions there are about MacGyver and his paperclips. I don't recall him using them that often...?
I'm a bit disappointed because I expected a new poster - they did shoot some new material for the international screenings and the premiere announcement; I thought they would use something with Lucas' new look (if they shot a new video just for the premiere date announcement on social media, they surely did a photoshoot as well).

Yeah, it's weird how the paperclip thing really took off. It's not just with this poster, either, it's pretty much any time anyone mentions MacGyver, they talk about him doing stuff with a paperclip, even though I can hardly remember him ever using them (chewing gum also comes up all the time, but again, it's not something he used THAT often.)
I don't mind the look of the poster. It's fine, and it captures the spirit of what a MacGyver show should be. But the wording was poorly chosen, and the big paperclip graphic just looks amateurish.
Anyway, I really don't see this show lasting long. The reaction on social media indicates too many people are not open to the idea of a MacGyver reboot at all. Even if this show ended up being countless times better than the original, I think too many people would just say, "Nope, it's not the REAL MacGyver, therefore I won't watch it." I'm predicting it will get poor ratings, then be shuffled around to a few different time slots, so even the people who DO like will lose track of it, and then it will be cancelled midway through the first season. (I know, I'm such a pessimist.)

Ouch ! Let's not rush to judgment.
Miasma, I really, really, really hope that they prove all you pessimists wrong.
MacGyver is much more than RDA. If changing the actor has worked for James Bond, Spidar-man, Superman, Sherlock Holmes, The Incredible Hulk, and Batman, it will work with MacGyver. We live in a world that is experiencing a golden age within TV, the strongest writing talent work on Tv and most tv shows are cinematic masterpieces in their own right, a far cry from the tv shows produced in the 80s.
This new series has the ability to be Amazing- with Higher production values and feature film directors wanting to produce their own MacGyver episode.
I bet after the opening gambit - we'll have forget RDA played the role. Lucas Till deserves his opportunity to win us over with his portrayal. And I for one will afford him that chance. CBS had their opportunity to drop him after the pilot, he did something right to win these executives around. Can't wait to see what he does with the role!

You're preaching to the choir!
I have said many times that tv shows have improved drastically since the 80s (check out my thread called, "How the reboot MIGHT be better.") But the point is, many fans don't seem to see it that way, and this show (like any other show) will only last if the ratings are strong. If people automatically block this out as some sort of cheap imitation, and aren't willing to give it a fair shot, it'll get cancelled quickly. And based on what I'm seeing on social media, unfortunately, that's the road we seem to be heading down. I hope I'm wrong.

Yeah I've thought about that myself too, but he is being the public face for the project it would seem AND with him being the show runner he would have some clout to go to whoever he needs to and give them a short sharp kick in the pants.
Remember Lenkov is concentrated on delivering two top shows for the fall, and all the responsibilities that come with that is huge. I can't stress how much responsibility he would have bestowed on his shoulder. Not just by his employers - but by the fans of both H.50 and MacGyver to make sure that each show, is as good as humanly possible. Just saying!
CBS has the easy task to create a promotional campaign to let the audience know they exist.
But in fairness to CBS' promo department - they probably didn't have much to work with to begin with... And most of material they had was from original pilot...and a lot has changed. Remember filming only began yesterday, and they probably had to have those posters designed and printed well in advance of comic-con. But yes, I must say they have let the side down hugely on this one. Even I could design a better poster using elements I found over the Internet, I'm sure these graphic designers could have done a bit better had they thought more like MacGyver.

Now I get why there's a paperclip on the ComicCon poster: Brand ambassadors will distribute giveaways making their debut at Comic-Con, including the MACGYVER “multi-tool” (with the hope of inspiring some clever “Macgyvering” around San Diego!),
So it's safe to say that was just a temporary addition, thank god!
