If Mac needed to deal with the police, Kiley was his man. Kiley apparently
(either through script inconsistencies or just plain hard work on his part) advanced
quickly through the ranks of the police department, going from Detective (in "Twenty
Questions") to Lieutenant (in "The Wall") to Captain (in "Lesson in
Evil").

I like Kiley very much. He's a good cop, doesn't give Mac too hard of a time. We didn't get to learn too much about him, but we were given to know that Mac could count on him, both for discretion and for back-up.
The first time I saw him I was confused, because I remembered the actor who played Kiley as Father Pat in 'The Madonna'... but Kiley soon established himself as his own man!

Mike is a useful resource for Mac to have available to him. He is someone who knows MacGyver and can trust him to not get in the way and hinder the police work and doesn’t feel threatened by MacGyver getting involved in aspects of his work.
Often when I quite like a character I have wanted them to have been in more episodes but for me Mike was in about the right number of episodes. I like that he is only around when he is needed and we don’t have MacGyver turning in to a police show with either Mac running to the police every 5 minutes or the police consulting with him all the time.
As for the speedy rise through the ranks…I’m sure MacGyver would have respect for and made friends with a person who is dedicated and will put that extra effort in to his career… But then again he is also friends with Jack Dalton!

Let me make sure I have the right person before I comment, is this the person that Jimmy Kendall goes to, to get strapped. He goes in the confessional and the priest says the gospel according to smith and wesson. That guy?
Now technically I'm driving a stolen car following a kidnapping... and I didn't even get to have my first cup of coffee. (Mac) Your burning hot MacGyver... And so is Pete! ! (Murdoc) Does anyone have a knife?? Yes...it has lots of different blades (Macgyver music plays while mac examines the knief) ...I know Why are you taking your pants off?? You got a better idea? I'm still trying to figure out what yours is!!

No. As Rocky said above, Kiley is the police officer who assists MacGyver in the episodes 'Twenty Questions', 'The Wall', and 'Lesson in Evil'. Tall, thin fellow, quite likable and certainly not a criminal.

Mike Kiley seems like a bit of a background character to me. I don't recall every seeing him really in the thick of anything. He never relaly seems to get involved in anything.
I know he helps put clues together and stuff, but I don't recall him ever being an integral part of any storyline. so I'm having a hard time voting anything above OK with him.

I like Mike Kiley. But, I like Kate Murphy a little more. We get to know her a little better, and she's fleshed out more as a character. We don't know very much about Kiley. One thing, does it seem that Mac is always a step ahead of the police in every episode? Are they saying Mac is really that smart, or are they saying the police are not that smart? Just wondering.

To may understanding from the show.I think Mac my be smater than the cops. Not to take anything away from the cops but Macgyver seems to be more educated in the matters of crime detection. He has a degree in Physics and get figure things out much faster than the avg cop.

One episode with Mike Kiley is Twenty Questions. Kiley is investigating the assault of a maid who was severly injured and later died, resulting from being kicked down a flight of stairs, after coming upon a burglar in her employer's house. Mike Kiley calls Mac in because Mac's friend Lisa Woodman was found in th house where the crime took place. I understood Kiley's annoyed reaction to Lisa. She was drunk, and trying to lie to everyone including herself. Kiley was concerned that Lisa could be involved in the crime. In his defense, for everyone that loves the character of Lisa Woodman, Kiley was doing his job. She was there, no one else and she had alcohol on her breath. Kiley did his job. That said the part that got me was when Mike and Mac were looking at the travel agency records, and Mike didn't put together that the victims in the string of buglaries used the same travel agency. Mac caught that clue, Mike's the cop, and it's obvious. I think that Kiley is much stronger of a character at times in Lesson in Evil. What does everyone think? Thinking about Lesson in Evil makes me want to watch Deadly Dreams and Lesson in Evil. But my kids are home, and I have no desire to give them nightmares.

I just can't get past the fact that the same actor played Mac's priest friend, Father Pat. The main reason is because in The Madonna, he and Mac have such an emotional conversation, and he is an integral part of that story. So, to see him as a cop in a later episode was just terrible casting on the part of the casting director. Come on, how hard is it to get another actor? I didn't really like him as the cop cus' I just kept thinking, that's Father Pat.
