The guest cast list seems very small. The promotional pictures from this episode don't show much.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Thornton was supposed to appear in this episode?
Yes, Sandrine Holt was listed for Episode 19 on IMDb (way back when), but her name was deleted later on. After it was known that there will only be 21 episodes in Season 1 instead of 22, someone deleted Episode 19 on IMDb instead of Episode 22.
It's a bit of a mess now, but there are other actors listed on Episode 20 that might appear on Episode 19.
I would have loved to see Thornton back (because I still believe she was set up by Nikki; I don't care what the writers say ), but I've been wondering about her character since "Ruler". Sandrine was cast as the lead in her own show recently and I've wondered if maybe they had intended another storyline for her and "Ruler" was some sort of attempted conclusion because Holt backed out.
Because Lenkov had promised that Eaton wasn't replacing Holt and that she would come back, but she doesn't even show up in Episode 17 despite her being the "bad guy" again. Also, they never put up Eaton's name in the Opening Credits as a regular until last week's episode.

Hm. That's exactly what I DIDN'T want, to be honest - Murdoc AND Dr. Zito in the Season Finale. Wanted Dr. Zito to have more spotlight. But we'll see, I guess. So that means it will probably be a two-parter if Murdoc already shows up an episode earlier?

This starts to make sense with all the pics we have been seeing. Some show hallways with Jack and Riley and the one with Lee that shows Bozer injured, he has a lab coat on so it got me thinking it might be Phoenix that gets attacked.
I still say that is a huge spoiler with Bozer to give away but I guess we will see.
At least the one season finale pic finally shows Mac😃

Yes. It might be some kind of hommate to the original episode "Phoenix under Siege".
I'm thinking... if MacGyver and Murdoc are younger in the reboot, I guess Dr. Zito will be younger, too?

We just got the full press release for the Season Finale and I'm a bit befuddled right now... looks like the son of original Dr. Zito (William Morgan Sheppard) is in there...

Yeah. But it's official promo stuff, so I decided to put in in here anyway.
Does make me wonder a bit about the press release for next week's episode, though. I mean, I don't believe they only have 3 guest cast members in that episode so I don't know why they didn't put all the names in there - yet revealed all the characters including spoilers for the finale.

Science Guy Extend your Wi-Fi range with a soda can? No prob for MacGyver’s tech whiz.
Physics and poetry may seem like a strange blend, but while working for Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters, it was Rhett Allain’s job to fuse the two.
“The guys on the show came up with the crazy concepts — like how hard a robot would have to punch a shark to scare it away — and my role was to help them reduce complicated stuff to a 10-second explanation,” he says. “I thought of it as science haiku.”
These days, Allain, an associate professor of physics at Southeastern Louisiana University, is lending his brainpower as the technical consultant to CBS’s MacGyver, making sure that the show’s awesome science can actually hold water.
“We call them ‘Mac hacks,’” he says. “Writers send me scripts and I go through each one to see if they’re plausible. If not, I’ll modify them and make suggestions, or we’ll brainstorm different situations and things that can be done.”
It isn’t easy concocting cool new ways for MacGyver (Lucas Till) to get himself out of a jam, “but the show has been pretty good science-wise,” Allain says. “One of my favorite episodes was when MacGyver jumps from a third-story window and lands on a body bag he inflated with a fire extinguisher. I’d never do that myself, but it’s perfectly legit and based on a real physics principle.”
And when writers don’t keep it real? He knows when to let it slide. “They have used the classic ‘bullet striking an object to ignite oil or fuel,’ even though it’s totally bogus. But I understand that it’s a fictional show. Sometimes it’s okay to be wrong.”
Viewers who want to try their own hacks at home — like making a Wi-Fi range extender with a soda can, or an electromagnet out of pennies and vinegar — can check out his how-to videos on CBS.com. After all, everyone’s a MacGyver wannabe, including Allain.
“I love it when the writers come up with some impossible challenge and I have to solve it really fast,” he says. “I feel just like Mac, but without being in danger.”

I agree that it seems strange there are only 3 guest cast members for next week. Peter Lenkov is usually known for twists right? Maybe there is a surprise twist coming?

I've never seen anything by Lenkov before. But if the "twist" is the same kind like the one in "Screwdriver", I don't want it
The most obvious (and lamest) twist for me would be this: Someone knocks on the door. MacGyver opens. Close-Up of his face, saying "Dad"? Fade to black.
They would have 3 months to cast MacGyver's dad; so they're not in a hurry to reveal him yet. Everyone would turn in for the Season 2 Premiere to see who his dad is, only to find out they're just acting like that last scene never happened.

I was thinking maybe Thornton shows up next week?
They filmed the finale without knowing if they would be renewed so I wonder if there would be a cliffhanger or maybe they filmed 2 endings?

CBS posted 3 sneak peeks for Episode 19 that premieres tomorrow. Of course, they will disappear again after the episode aired so there isn't a point of embedding them in here *sigh*.

I watched these sneak peeks and I must say I feel there is something brewing...but I am not sure what..and it doesn't have to do with the Bozer/Riley romance that I can't seem to see the chemistry to support.
This may contain spoilers so I will leave some space before the post just in case
In Flashlight, Mac decides to have a birthday party after dealing with the earthquake. This upcoming episode features a disconnect between Jack and Mac that leads to an injury to Jack. Third, we haven't seen many still photos of Mac in the season finale and finally Lee Z wrote this episode so you know it has to have some type of significant happenings.

Does any one else find it strange that Bozer/Mac are supposedly best friends, but in a situation like what is happening with Riley the person to advise him is Matty and not Mac? I thought that would make a good Bozer/Mac moment.

Just a thought...
I think that's a problem stemming from having a team on this show and from "upgrading" Bozer (from "best friend" that appears at the beginnings and at the ends of episodes) to a full member of "Team Phoenix". All the scenes of Mac with Bozer implementing their friendship (over that stupid CELLebration movie Bozer did) have vanished.
There's just not enough time to give everyone their screentime. Remember that in the first episodes, Riley used to be on every mission? Now that Bozer joined, they deal with it by having the team split up in pairs. Which means pivotal scenes that should happen with MacGyver get shifted over to someone else. For me, one of these scenes happened when Bozer told Riley about MacGyver's problem with his birthday. If he's MacGyver's best friend, should he blab something like this to Riley without asking him if it's okay to share?
Now they can't have Bozer crushing on Riley safely from afar (e.g. in the rare times she visits MacGyver on team nights) because he's part of the team and they have to work closely together. Ensue drama and lovesickness. Also, the new boss needed her scenes to get introduced. There weren't any scenes of Jack with Thornton (without the team being assembled as well), but now they had to do some "alone-scenes" between Jack and Matty.
It all takes away precious screentime from MacGyver alone (e.g. also his voice-overs) and from MacGyver with his friends (e.g. Bozer). I don't mind the team concept so much as in the beginning, but I hate that MacGyver's character development got stuck because of it. I mean, there isn't any, really. I still have the feeling I know more about the others than about MacGyver who's the main character.
