I love this episode because it remeber me a wonderful period of my life, when a was a teenager!!! I saw it in a little black and white tv!!! Was a Saturday night and I was in my parents' cabin!! Beatiful days....
Outstanding episode. Love Jack, apparently like everyone else here, and love Mac's exasperated-older-brother relationship with him. Reminds me of the Calvin and Hobbes line "Being a parent is wanting to hug and strangle your kid at the same time."
Too many good quotes to list, most of them already listed.
No, the music didn't sound like "1969" to me, but does anyone know what it was (the rock song that's playing when they're flying to Central America, and again towards the end of the episode)? It's one of those themes I can hear once and have stuck in my head for months or years on end.

Ah, Good Ol' Jack!
I only watched this again (dvd) last night.
I loved how Jack 'borrowed' (for want of a better word) all Mac's stuff at his place! The look on Mac's face when he realised that it was all gone, was priceless!!

I LOVE this episode, for so many reasons.
Lots and lots of humor--as well in the dialogue (so many unforgettable one liners here, you've already mentioned some of them) as in the acting. Yet, the plotline doesn't come off too flimsy or cheesy, there is a serious undertone to this adventure.
It's also a really well done introduction of Jack Dalton, and his really complex personality. Yes, he's a notorious liar, but his friendship with Mac and Mike is genuine, and though he sometimes gets Mac into trouble by dragging him into various risky situations, he would never leave him behind and it's obvious how much they still care for each other.
I love Mike as a character! She is smart, adventurous, independent and seems to be reasoning much like Mac--it's evident that they've been close friends for a long time! (I agree with the other posters though--I prefer Patricia McPerson playing her).
Some great acting from RDA in this episode too! His anger seemed very genuine, especially when he found the heroin. And the way he showed his affection to Mike… heartwarming indeed.
I definitely understand why the producers kept Dalton as a reoccurring character, though I must say this first episode with him is probably the best. Having him drag a reluctant Mac around is getting a bit repetitive in the end.
I'd totally forgotten about the "trained dog on a short leash" comparison--those were my thoughts exactly regarding "The Lost Treasure of Atlantis" and that Atkins professor. Atkins initially had kind of the same approach with Mac as Dalton usually has… but that character failed, miserably, and I loathed both Atkins and LTOA… don't think I'm the only one. More about that later, in the relevant thread--but *that's* my definition of "trained dog…"
"Jack of Lies," however, gets an "Excellent" vote from me.

Jack Dalton is very humorous guy. Bruce McGill acted also in Miami Vice and played guy named Weldon, with same homorous, lying personalite. And nobody didn't knowed is he speaking true or not

I had one issue with this episode. Mike is wearing bright white pants and spends most of the time sitting on the ground. Were those white pants coated on Teflon!

Another great moment:
"So what's the deal? Papa Thornton say you can come out and play, or what?" "Yeah..." "Good. Now, we go to plane, kemosabe. You follow." (v.o.) "I know I said I was gonna slug him. But how do you hit a kid?"
I think I probably know this entire eppy by heart by now.
I laughed my head off at that part. I even rewound it and showed my kid sis. Lol, I couldn't believe how much Jack sounded like Jay Silverheels. XD

Ha ha! I love this episode. I watched it with my little brother yesterday. He's always saying he hates MacGyver (just to get at me) but he did say once, last year that MacGyver was handsome... Anyway last night I heard him mimick and quote, "Tricks o' me trade, Mac me boy-o, tricks o' me trade!", and when he was watching Final Approach last night he said he was enjoying it. He's a secret fan...

My favourite Jack episode! The "kidnapping" of Mac's stuff was so funny! "If you want to see your fridge alive..."
Jack certainly does not spend a lot of time thinking about the things that can go wrong. He had a line about MacGyver worrying to much and then Mac replied: "Somebody has to worry" (or something like that).
Hm, how do I talk my sister into watching MacGyver again?
